Obituary: Florence Agnes Hauser, of Clinton, formerly of Westbrook, CT and Seaford, NY, passed away on 25, 2015, at Peregrine's Landing in Clinton. She was born on May 4, 1930, in Brooklyn, NY, the daughter of Marinus Christian Brix and Florence Waarst . She was the widow of Robert Henry Hauser. was the manager of the Fabric Garden in Massapequa and Westbury, NY , and later worked for many years at Oxford Car Leasing on Long Island. was a devoted wife and mother, and her grandchildren were her greatest joy. She loved to make things and enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, making ceramics and crafts of all kinds, often making things as gifts for others. She loved the beach, her garden and being close to her family. Hauser is survived by her daughter Janis Blencowe and her husband William of Clinton; her son Robert Raymond Hauser and his wife Nancy of Fire Island, NY; her brother Ted Rennenberg of St. James, NY and grandchildren Peter, James and Shannon Blencowe. A funeral service will be held on , 31, 2015 at 3:00 pm at Swan , 80 E. Main St., Clinton. A calling hour will be held for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Obituary: Alice (Penny) Bott Haughwout loved music more than anything else in the world except for her many friends, students and her family - who she encouraged and supported always. With her zest for life and deep desire to understand other human beings, Penny made an occasion of every moment. She was known to find pianos in closed off restaurant rooms to play songs, give help to anyone who asked and many that didn , take in friends or acquaintances who needed a place to stay or were having crying spells, treasure small animals (or grandchildren) calling many of them - Litta Fella, make-up multi-syllabic punctuated nick-names for each friend, write long letters to piano students whod moved away for college, and to always listen - no matter how many times shed heard it before. She taught us that the difference between adversity and adventure was attitude. Even if the boat ran aground, it was an opportunity for joyful celebration. Alice Gates (dearly known as Penny) was born in 1922 in Burma to Dr. Gordon E. & Helen Gates, missionary parents. A research biologist and the worlds authority on Burmese Earthworms, her father taught Biology to medical students at the University of Rangoon. When Alice and her older sister Evelyn Gates (Moriarity) were old enough they were sent to school in Granville, Ohio for an American education. While playing a character named Penny in a high school play, Alice acquired the name which held throughout her life. Penny spent summers in Bangor, Maine and at the family summer camp on Green Lake with her maternal Grandmother and Grandfather. She attended Bates in Maine majoring in English, where she married John MacDonald. She later enrolled in New York University to study Music Education & Theater, where she met her second husband Ted Bott who also attended NYU. When Ted was hired to teach music in the public schools, they moved to Greenwich. As their family grew, (their beloved Nichola and Tim) Penny began to take teaching jobs also. She taught at the New Lebanon School. While there, she wrote a musical - The Elephant's Child from the story written by Rudyard Kipling, for her students. She was a music teacher at King School and Long Ridge School. For over sixty years Penny taught piano lessons privately. To the delight (or dismay) of her students, she was known for frequent, bustling recitals. Also known for her colorful yearly Christmas Carol parties, Penny wrote musical parodies and poetry. She played organ and was Choir Director at the North Greenwich Congregational Church. A lover of choral music, she was a long time member of the Greenwich Choral Society and the Stamford MasterSingers. Pennys gift for deep listening contributed to her interviews for Greenwich Librarys Oral History Project where she was responsible for scores of interviews in their collection. An advocate for many causes, she was an active member in the Lisle Fellowship Program, a Trustee in Bucktrout Braithwaite Memorial Foundation for the revitalization of Williamsburgh, VA, and a strong voice in Byram Rivers Pollution Abatement Association. During her marriage to Alex Haughwout, Penny delighted in sailing Sea Fever, a forty-four foot sloop, with adventuresome friends and family, exploring waters near and far, always searching out lifes celebrations with joy in the company of those she loved. Penny is survived by her two children - Dr. Nichola Bott (Frank Moore) and Tim Bott (Mary), her five grandchildren: Kaitlin, Andrew, Susie, Ted & Eric. Penny loved deeply and was a beloved friend and surrogate mother to many. It was a joy to know her. Obituary: David Winston Sequoia Haughton, 32, of Hartford, passed away suddenly on , 7, 2016. He was born in New Haven to Winston Haughton and Charlyn Austin Haughton. David grew up in both Bloomfield and New Haven having attended Bloomfield High School and Hill House High School. During his late teens through early twenties David did extensive work as a bouncer for various clubs, parties, and concerts throughout CT and Mass. He was highly regarded and respected for his outstanding leadership and skill. In doing so, he was inspired to create his own security team, Godbody Security. David had a strong desire to pursue a career in in Human Services. He began working as a residential counselor and Job Coach for Community Enterprise, Vinfen, and Options Unlimited. He also obtained certification as a Recovery Coach for the State of CT. Desiring to further his education; he was currently attending Charter Oak State pursuing a B.S in Behavioral Science. David had a love for community volunteering; and he was a positive and supportive role model for the youth. He volunteered as office support for the Urban League and Hartford Community Recovery (CCAR). His passion for athletics led him to volunteer as an assistant coach for the Roberto Clemente Youth Baseball League and Hartford Wildcats Youth Football Association. His final endeavor inspired him to start his own Facebook page, titled One Life to Live Nutrition and Fitness, dedicated to encouraging others to eat properly and exercise. David was an avid Lakers and Dallas Cowboys fan. One of his favorite things to do was watch sports games, and play NBA 2K and oast and beat his friends, because he was the best player-or so he thought. He also had a true passion for fashion, especially with being a sneaker head with retro Jordans being his favorite. David also known as Big Dave and Body to friends, Goo to family, and affectionately Papa Bear to his fiancé and daughter was truly a gentle giant. Being a true Leo, David possessed immense confidence and strength. He showed it most in his impeccable sense of fashion and strong entrepreneurial mentality. He was genuine, witty, with a great sense of humor, smile, and overall presence that could light up any room; a true born leader. But most all he unconditionally loved his family and friends and would always be there to lend an ear and offer support in any way he could. He will truly be missed but always cherished. David is survived by his mother Charlyn Ruth Austin Haughton of Windsor, CT; father Winston Keith Haughton and stepmother Pauline Jennifer Haughton of Hamden, CT; his beloved fiancée Lila Rivera of Hartford; his precious daughter Cheyenne Rivera; and his sister Keshia Haughton of Bradenton, FL. He is predeceased by his maternal grandparents Bryson and Mattie Austin; and paternal grandparents Desrene Campbell and Herbert Haughton. He also leaves to cherish in his memory a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends as well as his much-loved dogs Buddha and Dallas. His family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Hartford Hospitals Cardiology unit for their compassionate care of David. A funeral service will be held at 12 PM , 14 at the Carmon , 807 Bloomfield Ave Windsor. His family will receive friends prior to the service from 10 AM to 12 PM.
