▰ Rupert Guy Hanan

Died July 05, … More Information
Rupert Guy Hanan, born August 26, 1952 entered into eternal rest July 5, 2014 in Fairfield, Connecticut. Rupert was 61. Tags: #Fairfield #Epping #England #Anneliese #Hanan #Palo #Stanford #Cambridge #Harvard #Harvards #Diego #Texas #Guardian #Zealand
Obituary: Rupert Guy Hanan, Guy to those who knew him, died, unexpectedly, 5, 2014, in Fairfield, CT. He is survived by his wife Iris, his mother Anneliese, his daughters Elizabeth and Joanna, his stepson Sacha, and his son-in-law Jon. Memorial services to honor and celebrate his life were held , 9 in Fairfield, CT. Guy was born 26, 1952 in Epping, England to Anneliese and Pat Hanan. He spent the first ten years of his life in England before emigrating with his family to Palo Alto, CA where his father accepted a position with Stanford University. Guy partook of all the university had to offer to faculty children and developed an enduring tie with the university for his remaining years, especially his love for following and cheering on his favorite Stanford sports teams. His senior year in high school his father moved the family to Cambridge, MA in order to join the faculty at Harvard University. Guy longed to be in CA and returned to Stanford as an undergraduate student. he graduated, he worked for a while in the purchasing department at Stanford, soon deciding to go to business school. He returned to Cambridge, MA and attended Harvards business school. Following his two years there he was employed at various companies in San Diego and Texas, spending much of his career as a consultant practicing out of CT. Guy was much more than his career. He was erudite and clever, well- spoken and well- read. His family and friends loved him for his selflessness, humanity, and bad jokes. His colleagues respected him for his steadfastness, wisdom, evenhandedness and intelligence. He saw himself as a problem solver. Guy became a talented photographer amassing thousands of pictures of flowers, butterflies, turtles, deer, and birds. He was a soft, gentle, considerate and kind man. He had an incredibly strong sense of duty and honor and commitment to his family. He had a quick wit and had great fun memorizing ridiculously insipid, silly jokes. Every week he would curate videos, articles, cartoons and pictures from the Guardian, the New Zealand Herald and other media and customize a unique assortment of links for each family member. He cared deeply about his aging parents, losing his father only 2 months prior to his own passing. He cared deeply about his children and his wife, taking care at a distance for fear of being too intrusive. He seemed intent on leaving a gentle footprint on this earth, not wanting to call attention to himself. He took pride in nursing orchids back to health, and rescuing plants that weren thriving. He was a man of few words, his silence often belying the depth of his feelings. He had hopes of travelling once he retired. Those dreams are now dashed but he lives on in our memories and thoughts each and every day. We are so sad to have to continue our lives without him and miss him terribly.

Obituary: Our dearest, sweet Mary Ruth (Kennedy) Hampton passed away peacefully on , 19, into the waiting arms of our Lord after a brief illness. Mary was born in Chicago on 12, 1931 to John Joseph and Ruth (Dean) Kennedy. She grew up on McKinley Avenue in New Haven along with her beloved older siblings, Jack, Ellen, and Dick. She attended Hillhouse High School, and graduated from Vassar in 1953 with a degree in Science. She went on to complete a first year as a medical student at George Washington University. While doing some research work at Yale University, she met a handsome, aspiring doctor named Walter Hampton. fell in love and married 60 years ago on a hot day in 1956. began married life together in Brooklyn, until Walters medical education and training moved them from Brooklyn to Fort Slocum, NY to Thetford Hills, VT to Connecticut where they resided briefly in Bloomfield until finding their forever home on Winthrop Street in Tariffville. While Walter began his work at Hartford Hospital and building his private practice in Simsbury, Mary dedicated herself to the vocation of motherhood. And oh, what an exemplary mother she was to the seven of us!! Mary filled our home with beautiful things!!...She was a pianist and gifted oil painter, and so nurtured in us a love for the arts and the use of our imaginations. She was an avid reader and eloquent writer, with a brilliant mind and a passion for innovation. She taught us that boredom was never an option! Mary gifted us with her Catholic faith. As children, she somehow managed to gather us together in the late afternoon during Lent to recite the rosary in front of a statue of the Blessed Mother. To this day, the memory is a comforting one...our voices lifted in prayer with hers as the spring days grew longer toward Easter, and a tuna casserole waited in the oven. Mary was a doer! She was an active parishioner at St. Bernard Church, and met some of her oldest and dearest friends through her involvement with the Ladies Guild. She was also a past president and longstanding member of the McLean Auxiliary from its inception when Walter acted as McLean s first Medical Director. Most recently, as a resident of McLean, Mary was a member of the Resident Council which advocates for the hopes and needs of the residents. Mary was always faithful to her Alma Mater and demonstrated her loyalty to Vassar and her classmates by working on many a reunion planning committee and fundraising campaigns. Her love of music led her to the Farmington Valley Chapter of the Sweet Adelines and so twenty plus years of harmony and comraderie. There was always an excited flurry in the house around competition time when Mary would be sewing sequins on costumes and pulling out the big false eyelashes, wigs, and makeup! Mary was game for most everything, especially if it involved being with her husband and family, including skiing, hiking, and camping, even honeymooning at Camp Wulamat on Newfound Lake after forgetting her luggage back home! She loved to talk, and could converse with anyone! We loved to hear her stories of growing up, about the brothers who teased her, of drives with her parents, of summers spent in Hornell and days at Cayuga Lake; her memories of her Irish kin and of the grandparents who worked on the Erie Railroad, her stories of falling in love, and all the stories that shaped her life of 85 years from which we drew inspiration. She had an Irish twinkle in her eye and was quick to laugh; she appreciated a funny cartoon or a joke, and her propensity to get silly endeared her to everyone, especially to her grandchildren. Mary was blessed to see much of this world: Europe, Bermuda, Akaska, Hawaii, Nepal. Trapp Family Lodge, the White Mountains, and the Adirondacks, Nantucket Island, and their home away from home in the Berkshires, Wildwood. She and Walter shared beautiful adventures around the globetrotting . But, at the end of the day, she was most content basking in the comfort and familiarity of home with her husband by her side and a revolving door of loved ones and neighbors. Her husband, her children and grandchildren, her dogs, her garden, her books, her tv programs, her friends, her paints, her music-- these things grounded her. She was a master party planner, and the holidays and family gatherings were a source of great joy to her...especially Christmas. She appreciated every detail, finding the perfect gift, (a notorious catalog shopper with exquisite taste!), decorating the tree, and especially watching the children open their gifts from Santa! Nobody was forgotten by Mary! She was always on your side, and if you were in need of anything, she made it her project to find you an answer: a new job, an apartment, a pet, shoes, a graduation dress, an extra $20 for your pocket, she was on it!! She had fun perusing the Yankee Flyer for you. In a pinch, she was convinced that Ellen Degeneres, as a humanitarian, would pull some strings for you if only you wrote to her! God blessed the earth and each of us when He gave us Mary. As her dear friend said into her ear in her last hours, she taught us all tolerance and humility. She was a class act from another era when grace, dignity, manners, integrity, and faith mattered more than anything. We can only hope to do right by her by paying her pure goodness forward. Mary was pre deceased by her parents, her brother, John Kennedy and his wife Ann; her sister Ellen Kennedy Clarke and her husband, Harry, and a niece, Jennifer Clarke. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Walter R. Hampton, and her children, Walter R. Hampton, Jr and his wife Ann, Maria Lucy Hampton Klimczak and her husband Walter, Christopher Kennedy Hampton and continued...
