He is survived by his three sons Steve (Dena), Gary (Sherri), and Brian (Lavonne) as well as his three Grandchildren Kristina, Patrick, and Andrew. Fran was born in Philadelphia, PA and then eventually traveled by bus to Southern California where he met his beloved Marian. graduating from high school he joined the US Navy and was a Radioman first class. He was a WWII veteran and retired from Pac Bell in 1984. Fran and Marian moved to Washington in 1991. resided in Gig Harbor for many years where they enjoyed gardening, attending to their bird sanctuary, attending church, active in the RCIA program, and spending time with family and friends. Fran was an active 4th degree Knights of Columbus where he was active in the church community. Fran would always greet people with a smile and shared many stories of his past to tell. You could always find him reading his morning paper and watching his John Wayne movies. He was also very supportive to help build the WWII memorial through donations as this was very important to him to recognize his fellow WWII vets. Francis loved to watch his Seahawks and was thrilled to see them win the Super Bowl as it was all he talked about for weeks afterwards. We will all cherish our memories and know one day we will see him again, and take comfort that Francis was finally reunited with his beloved Marian. Obituary: Eloise Lillian VanHoy (Aunty Babe), born 25, 1910 to valley pioneers George Washington and Ellen Marguerite (Hollett) VanHoy, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of 10, 2011. Softly the leaves of memory fall, gently we gather and treasure them all. Unseen, unheard, she is always near, still loved, still missed, still very dear. Eloises journey began in the summer of 1909, when a young family loaded up their wagon and pack horse, and left their home in Bowman Creek, Klickitat Co. traveled through what was known then as Cedar Valley and headed straight for the great land of the valley that was rich with farming opportunities. Upon their arrival the family settled in a camp built for settlers new to the area. Eloise was born that winter, the youngest of seven children. What soon became their home for many years, the VanHoy family settled in Cowiche. Eloise Spent her childhood there and proudly graduated along with 10 other classmates from Cowiche High School in 1928. She was the class president. Her fondest memories include learning how to read, playing basketball, and attending community events at the local grange hall. Eloise began working at an early age. She spoke fondly of her time working the fish canneries in beautiful Alaska, but I wasn fond of the smell; it was difficult work, but it prepared me for life. Eloise spent the next 40 years working as a fruit packer. She was employed with Holtzinger, Warren, and Roche fruit companies. It was also during this time that the many generations came to call her Aunty Babe. Eloises strength was immeasurable. The family tragically lost two sons who passed at a very early age. In the late 20s the family moved to Yakima, and in 1934 Grandma VanHoy passed away. Putting her life aside, Aunty Babe remained with her father and sister Edith to help raise and care for Ediths son Kay. Later that summer the family was able to purchase their own home at 706 N. 3rd Avenue, where they remained for the next 74 years. Fall was Aunty Babes favorite time of the year. Fortunate are those who can grow, harvest and preserve the fruits of this wonderful valley. She especially enjoyed being with family and friends, and her favorite thing to do was play house. She passed on so much to so many. Her compassion for others was her greatest strength, and not one of us was left untouched. In 1952, Aunty Babe was baptized, and what followed was a lifetime of love and devotion to her Lord. She was a faithful servant and member of First Baptist Church for over 20 years and proud to serve as their librarian. In the late 70s she joined First Christian Church and remained a member until her passing. Throughout this time Eloise and Edith formed countless friendships and all became part of her family. Eloise Lillian (Aunty Babe) is lovingly survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and very special friends, all who were dear to her heart. In addition to her parents, Eloise was preceded in death by siblings Carl Madellon, Raymond us, Verna Beatrice (Willard), Louie Verl, Loris Ervin, Edythe Bernice (Soden), and her beloved nephew Kay Soden. The family wishes to thank the staff at Willow Springs and Lower Valley Hospice for the care and support of Eloise in her last days. She was humbly touched by all who visited. In addition, the family is forever grateful to her nephew-in-law, Richard Bohl, who was with her in her passing. She formed a very special bond with him as he helped the family care for her after Kays death in 2007. Ralph Waldo Emerson, one of Eloises favorite authors, wrote the following lines Those are a success who have lived well, laughed often, and loved much; who have gained the respect of intelligent people and the love of children; who have filled their niche and accomplished their task; who leave the world better than they found it, whether by a perfect poem or a rescued soul; who never lacked appreciation of the earths beauty or failed to express it; who looked for the best in others and gave the best they had. That was Aunty Babe. Memorial services will be held at 11:30 a.m., , 21, 2011 at Keith and Keith Terrace Heights Chapel. To share a memory of Eloise visit www.keithandkeith.com.
