Obituary: Charles Chuck R. Harris was born 30, 1928 in Altadena, CA, the third of seven children born to George and Marie Harris. Surrounded by family, Chuck died in Yakima, WA. 21, 2014. graduating from Ellensburg High, he enlisted in the U.S. Navel Service, Coast Guard in of 1946, and was honorably discharged as a Yeoman Second Class in 1949. his service, Chuck attended the University of Washington and graduated in 1954 with his degree in Pharmacy, a profession he truly loved and actively practiced for 58 years. Chuck took pride in having served the community when he owned and operated Cowans Pharmacy in Naches and then M & H Drug Store in Yakima until poor health forced the closure of M & H. Happily, with renewed good health, he returned to a full time and then part time pharmacy profession until he retired 2 years ago. Chuck was a man of his word - charming, caring, a gentle Christian man who loved his family more than life itself. Chuck enjoyed ranching on his ranch with the red barn, raising Black Angus cattle. He loved to go fishing, camping, water skiing (when we were much younger), traveling in the motor home and just plain enjoying life with family & friends. Having been an avid high school athlete, Chuck truly enjoyed high school sports and supported the N.V.H.S. sports programs, especially basketball and he coached from the stands since 1967. Chuck accepted his more recent limitations with regret but was thankful for the blessings of time shared with his family and friends. He was a member of Naches Presbyterian Church where he served both as an Elder and a Deacon. Chuck also served several terms as a council member for the Town of Naches. Chuck was preceded in death by his Mom and Dad, sisters - Jane, Ruth, Frona & Irene and daughter Jahn Nelson. He is survived by his wife, Peggy, who he adored for 44 years; daughter, Cheryl (Dennis) Belair and their children, Heather, Monique & Duane; son Rick (Diane) Harris and their daughter, Dione (Jeff) Jefferson and son Matt Harris; son-in-law, Paul Nelson and his children Angela & Ryan; daughter, Delrae (Lonnie) Blanchard and their daughter Jayann; son, Denny (Shelly) Carrell and their children James & Lucy; daughter, Ginger Craig (Dennis Kerl) and Sean (Janel) Craig, Will & Emily. He is also survived by his brother, John (Nadine) and sister, Kelly (Bob) Hocker; brothers-in-law, Wayne, Terry & Del as well as numerous nieces & nephews. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to Naches Presbyterian Church, Naches Park Pool Boosters or Union Gospel Mission in care of Keith and Keith 902 W. Yakima Avenue. A graveside inurnment will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. , 8, 2014 in the Naches . A Celebration of Chucks Life will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the Lower Naches Grange, located at 1800 Old Naches Hwy, Yakima 98908. Those wishing to may bring cookies to share at this reception. Obituary: Celestine Harris, 87, passed away at her home , 17, 2015, in Yakima, WA. Celestine was born 9, 1928, in Canton, MS to Josie and Emmett Johnson. Her family migrated from Louisiana to Las Vegas, NV in 1941. In 1948, her family moved to Toppenish, WA, where she met and married Ernest Harris, 25, 1951. raised seven children, Gwendolyn, Cheryl, Duane Curtis, Rick, Judi, Robyn and Traci. Celestine was a florist at Alices Flowers. Then, employed and retired from Safeway Floral after 10 years. She valued education for her children and those in her community, serving on the Toppenish School Board for eight years. Celestine was a member of Mount Hope Baptist Church in Yakima. She attended Bible Study Fellowship for 10 years. God, family and friends were her treasures. She loved cooking, baking, canning and gardening. Celestine was the Matriarch of her family and keeper of our family stories and history. She was preceded in death by her parents, Josie and Emmett Johnson, six siblings, husband, Ernest Harris and daughter, Cheryl. She was survived by her two sisters, Refernell Thompson of Seattle, WA and Ruth Jackson of Pasco, WA, five children, 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation for our mom will be held at Merritt in Wapato, WA on , 28, 2015, from 11 am to 12:30 pm. Graveside services will follow at Elmwood in Toppenish, WA, at 2 pm. A celebration of Celestines life is planned for this coming spring. The date and time will be announced. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to your favorite youth organization. Obituary: Carolyn Grace Brissenden Harris Carolyn was born to Carrol and Opal Brissenden on 27, 1940 in Portland, Oregon. She spent her first two years in Portland until her father joined the Navy after the attack on Pearl Harbor. While he served our country, Carolyn and her mother moved to Clay City, Illinois to live on the family farm. the war, her family moved back to Portland where Carolyn's brother Richard was born. Carolyn had a wonderful and active childhood, graduating in 1958 from Wilson High School. She attended Oregon State University, joined the Alpha Omicron Pi sorority, and graduated with a teaching degree. She met her future husband, Ward Harris, while he worked as a houseboy in her sorority. Carolyn and Ward married in 1961, they remained in Corvallis, OR and later moved to St. Louis, MO. She taught elementary school in both of these cities over a period of 8 years. moved to Seattle in 1969 and settled in Bellevue in 1971 where they raised their two children. Carolyn was active in her community, the PTSA, and above all, her children's activities. No matter the endeavor, Carolyn was always her kids' biggest supporter. She spent countless hours driving to and attending their swim meets, basketball games, and practices for nearly 20 years. When her children attended secondary school, Carolyn returned to work part-time for a greeting card company and was promoted several times over her 17 years of employment. Over the last 10+ years she became a valued employee for Bartell Drugs. She and Ward divorced in 1998, but remained good friends. Carolyn was blessed with four grandchildren whom she loved dearly. She always enjoyed attending and following their athletic and academic pursuits. Carolyn also loved watching Seattle sports teams, listening to KIRO radio, and tracing her family's genealogy. She passed away 16, 2015 and will be remembered for her smile, wit, supportive and caring nature, quiet strength, and above all, her love for family. She was a wonderful, A+ mom, and will be dearly missed. She is survived by children Kirk Harris (Sophie) and Annette Harris Kempf (Matthew); grandchildren Drew and Sam Harris, Elias and Audrey Kempf; brother Richard Brissenden (Debbie); and numerous cousins. The family wishes to thank the staff at Swedish Hospital oncology center for the excellent care she received during her illness.
