Obituary: Harold W. Hansel was born on 26, 1925 near Adams, NE to Fred and Emma Hansel. Harold grew up on a Nebraska farm and attended grades 1-8, graduating in 1940. In later years, Harold obtained his GED. Harold was baptized on 26, 1926 at Cortland Methodist Church and was confirmed , 1951 at American Lutheran Church in Lincoln, NE. He worked for various farmers in the area, which is where he met his future wife, Mae Grummert. Their first date was to a dance in Beatrice, NE. they were married they lived around Plymouth, NE and later moved to Lincoln, NE where Harold was a garage mechanic for 20 years, later owning a garage of his own. He also worked for the Parks Dept. doing maintenance. He then started to work for the Codes Dept for the City of Lincoln where he retired in 1987. Harold and Mae had rental properties where they worked side by side for many years. were charter members of Sheridan Lutheran church in Lincoln, NE. Harold was on different committees throughout his lifetime. He did a lot of maintenance work at Sheridan Lutheran Church in Lincoln and Central Lutheran here in Yakima. Harold was involved with various volunteer work, including Habitat for Humanity, the Food Bank, Volunteer Chore Service and Genealogy Association. He was selected as Volunteer of the Month and his picture was displayed at the City Building in Lincoln. Harold loved working with his hands, whether on cars or in his garden. He also loved to go dancing, sometimes several times a week. In 2000, Harold and Mae moved to Yakima to be close to their granddaughter (Marie Thomas) and great-grandchildren. joined Central Lutheran Church soon after arriving. Harold and Mae celebrated their 66th Anniversary in May of 2011. Harold is survived by his wife, Mae of 66 years; son Robert Hansel of Vancouver Wash.; grandchildren, Marie (Todd) Thomas of Yakima Wash; Lisa (Tim) Driver Sierra Madre, CA; Rob Hansel of Fargo, ND; Debra Hansel of Lincoln, NE; great-grandchildren, Erin and Alec Thomas as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Harold was preceded in death by his daughter, Lucille Mezejewski; parents, Fred and Emma Hansel; sisters, Gladys Sack, Goldie Becker Schmidt; brother, Harlan Hansel; one niece and three nephews. Visitation will be 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., , 2, 2011 at Keith & Keith , 9th Ave. Yakima. service will be held at 2:00 p.m., , 3rd at Central Lutheran Church.
