Obituary: Marion Hayes Hull was born on 23, 1940 in Bronx, New York. She was the first child born of four to the late David Vernon and Jessie C. (Summerville) Hayes. She had a close and loving relationship with her siblings - brothers Henry C. Hayes (Oleathia), Warrenton, North Carolina and David (Butch) 0. Hayes, The Bronx, New York and sister Millie Hayes Nelson (deceased). On 11, 2017, after an extended illness, Marion transitioned to Eternal Rest. Education Marion attended Long Island University, 1961. She earned a Master of Arts in Television Writing, from New York University in 1967 and a Doctor of Philosophy in Political Science from The American University in 1996. Her education prepared her for the long rewarding career in communications. er Marion was a communications educator and researcher. Her many career positions included: Instructor at Norfolk State University, 1967 - 1970; Assistant Professor at Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina, 1970-1972; Communication Specialist United States Justice Department, Washington, D.C 1972-1973; Director of Telecommunications Programs at Booker T. Washington Foundation, 1973- 1982; United States Delegate The World Administration; Radio Conference, (Planning Committee) Washington, D.C. 1978 - 1979; Visiting Scholar Rand Afrikaane University, 1998; Assistant Professor of Communications at Howard University; and Director of Communications for the Montgomery Chamber Workforce Corporation, 2000. She was the recipient of numerous awards including: • The Excellence in Service Award - United Negro Fund, 1994 • Distinguished Leadership award, Sprint • National Association for community leadership; Ford Foundation grantee, 1968. Religious Life Marion accepted Christ at an early age and she was resolute in her faith - there was no question that she was a child of the MostHigh God. She demonstrated an unwavering commitment to Christ through the hills and valleys of life. Her gaze was up to God and out to her community to see whom she could help. Her living was never in vain. Marions church affiliations included Zion Baptist Church in Washington, DC., Berean Baptist Church, also in Washington, DC. Later she joined The Community Baptist Church in Silver Spring, MD, where she was a member of the Asher Family. For many years she hosted the Asher Family picnic in her home in Silver Spring, Maryland. She was a pioneer in the Media Ministry, instrumental to improving the sound quality and enhancing the overall worship experience. You could always find her on s positioned behind the sound board. Marion cherished serving on the Deaconess Ministry at The Community Baptist Church. She was a kind, loving and committed servant leader, always taking care of the needs of members in her family. She was also on the Scholarship Committee and felt compelled to instill the value of education and commitment to excellence in young minds. Community Service Without community service, we would not have a strong quality of life. Its important to the person who serves as well as the recipient. Its the way in which we ourselves grow and develop. -Dorothy Height Marions community service was extensive. Among the many positions of service she held were Community Ambassador for the City of Raleigh, North Carolina in 1971; The Exchange Ambassador for the Experiment of International Living, 1972; Committee Maryland Public Broadcasting Commission, 1998. She was also a member of The White House Conference Minority Ownership Washington, 1973; a member of the cable communications advisory committee, Montgomery (Maryland) Government, 1982-1986; the chairman of the consumer advisory board, 1989- 1995; the chair of clubs and organizations of the United Negro Fund, Washington, since 1989. She was a speaker in Montgomery Public Schools, 1992; a member of the Association Education Journalism and Mass Communications (accreditation chair since 1994, vice chair commission on status of minorities); she worked with Mobile Medical , Inc. to improve the lives of low income, uninsured and Medicaid residents of Montgomery . Marion graduated from Leadership Montgomery in 1995 and served on numerous committees. She chaired the Board of Directors of Leadership Montgomery in 2000-02. Her awards included: • Leadership award, Womens Institute Freedom of the Press, Capital Press Club (1977) • Leadership Award, Leadership Montgomery • Maryland Public Broadcasting Commission Resolution award for her years of service in support of public television to the state of Maryland. (2006) Marion was initiated into the Alpha Mu Chapter (Brooklyn City Chapter) of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated in 1959. She became a member of the Montgomery chapter of Theta Omega Omega, as a Golden Life member (50 years or more of service) of the sorority. Marion served in various positions and on committees over the years. She served as president of the chapter from 1980-1985, advisor to undergraduates beginning in 1990 and served in that position for many years. She received the chapter Leadership award 1984. She was proud that her daughter Karla (Karla Hull Williams) was also a member of her beloved sorority. She was a member of the Potomac Valley Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated and a member of several social organizations including The Drifters, Incorporated and the Hens and Roosters. She was also a member The Links, Incorporated, Silver Spring, where she served in Montgomery and surrounding communities. Family Life The love of a family is lifes greatest blessing. Marion loved her family and friends. She enjoyed entertaining with a large pot of crabs or a dish she wanted to share. She also enjoyed traveling which included: Africa, Brazil, Caribbean Islands, Canada; and summers were spent visiting her family at reunions on the east coast. It is also important to mention her joy in participating in her bridge club that included several of her closest friends and sister-in-law Julia Hull. She leaves to cherish her memory, two children, Karla Hull Williams (Lawson, III) and Bernard Hull, II; two grandsons, Bryce L. Williams and Brandon C. Williams; brothers Henry C. Hayes (Oleathia), Warrenton, North Carolina and David (Butch) 0. Hayes She also leaves a host of sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends. |

Obituary: Mrs. Jarmie Jerry Bodene Dameron Hull, 87, a resident of Harrisonburg, died evening, Nov. 12, 2013, at her home. A daughter of the late Howard and Sally Marshall Dameron, she was born on Jan. 4, 1926 in Nelson where she attended school. She had made her home in Harrisonburg for the past 40 years and was a member of the United Methodist Church. In 1951 she married Henry C. Hull who survives her. Besides her husband, she is survived by one son, Michael Hull and his wife, Diane, one daughter, Donna Falls both of Harrisonburg and two grandchildren, Larry Falls and Pam Falls also of Harrisonburg. She was preceded in death by a sister, Peggy Drumheller. services and interment will be held at two oclock afternoon in the Mausoleum at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens with the Rev.
