Obituary: Also known as Pete, of Fairfax, Va, passed away on , 9, 2015 at age 91. Born on 29, 1923 in Waltham, Massachusetts and raised in Belmont. Beloved husband of 67 years to Martha Hoban Holmes. Beloved father of Lawrence Jr., Pamela, Robert (Elaine), David, Gregory and Dorothy (Christopher). Beloved grandfather to ten grandchildren and beloved great-grandfather to eight great-grandchildren. Much loved brother of James, Francis, Claire and William and uncle to numerous nieces and nephews. As part of a scouting radio communications team, Lawrence served in the Marine Corps in the South Pacific theatre in World War II. He graduated from Belmont High School in 1941, continued his education at Wentworth Institute of Technology and earned a Bachelors Degree from Northeastern University. He worked as a technician at Massachusetts Institute of Technologys Lincoln Laboratory on the Whirlwind computer, which was a forerunner of modern computers. He then left MIT and joined the newly-formed MITRE Corporation, which was an outgrowth of Lincoln Laboratory. He remained at MITRE Corpoation for the remainder of his career, retiring from senior management in 1988. He was known by all as a kind, gentle, caring, loving soul who was modest and always willing to help other. Wake to be held at Money & King , 171 West Maple Ave., Vienna, Va., on , 12th from 5 to 8 PM. Mass and burial will be in Acton, Mass. at a later date. For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his honor to a charity of your choice.
