Obituary: Reed Gardner Hughes, 92, died peacefully at the home of his daughter Jeannette in Salem, Utah, on 3, 2009. He was born 16, 1916 in Spanish Fork, Utah to Joseph Hughes and Delila Rebecca Gardner. Reed was preceded in death by his dear wife, Jean Creer Hughes in 2000, whom he had married in the Salt Lake Temple on 29, 1938. are the parents of four children, Robert R. Hughes (Barbara), of Spanish Fork, Utah; Jeannette H. Johnson (Doug), of Salem, Utah; Marilyn Hughes, of Salt Lake City, Utah; and Kathryn H. Hawkins (Blake), of Ogden, Utah. Reed and Jean have 23 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren. Reed graduated from Brigham Young University in 1938 and shortly after took his new bride to the East Coast to attend Law School at Georgetown University for two years. He then began a career in the FBI, where he served during the Second World War. However, Reeds ambitions took him home in 1946 where he opened up a business in Spanish Fork called The Hughes Dairy/ Town Pride Dairy, which he owned and operated for 30 years. Reed was an expert marksman and enjoyed raising and racing horses. He was a member of the Diamond Fork Riding Club, and he also thoroughly enjoyed playing pool.Reed left a legacy of integrity, hard work, and a quick wit. His family members were consistently saying to each other, Guess what Grandpa said today? his sweet wife Jean died, Reed was even more grateful for the daily and weekly visits from friends and family. He especially looked forward to being picked up for lunch, and a drive around town. Reed remained amiable and pleasant throughout the remainder of his years, and his children and grandchildren valued the life lessons he taught through this example.Reed was preceded in death by seven of his nine siblings, Regine H. Crandall, Bernice H. Nutall, Delila M. Hughes, Anna H. Roe, Joseph W. Hughes, Preston G. Hughes, and Kenneth G. Hughes. He is survived by his sister, Ruth (Frances) H. Hillier. A viewing will be held on , 8, 2009 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Walker Mortuary, 187 S. Main Street, Spanish Fork, Utah. services will be held on , 9, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Spanish Fork 9th Ward Chapel, 98 South Main Street, Spanish Fork, Utah with visitation at the church from 9:45-10:45 a.m. prior to services.
