Obituary: Audrey the Flower Lady, at almost 94 years old, slipped away on the 6th of May to be reunited with her sweetheart Wendell and son Rory. It is fitting that all of the trees and flowers in the Salt Lake Valley are arrayed in their most beautiful blossoms to send her off into the heavens. She was seventeen when she started as a florist at Millers and Ellisons (30 years) and then did all the weddings for Heritage House for years, and free-lance work until she couldn . Everything she touched seemed to bloom in a very special way. She designed thousands of weddings and floral arrangements and every customer was special to her. While flowers were her everyday work and beauty, her 4 sons and 2 daughters were her glory. Every grandchild (25) and great grandchild (44) only increased the joy and happiness she had in this life. She married Wendell May 8, 1944, sealed in the LDS Temple, 16, 1959. She really did love all of the members of the Canyon Rim ward where she served in a myriad of callings and most will remember her beautiful flowers at the podium for decades. For over 60 years, The Happy Hackett Christmas Tree lot was started by Audrey and Wendell to provide Christmases to remember. All of the kids knew that she talked to the trees to make sure that they were at their best. Her life was filled with adventure and friends; she loved and rode horses for years (even while pregnant), ice skating, golf, tennis, water skiing, snow skiing (sort of), she hiked, led girl scouts, worked with the PTA, cooking her famous scones and enjoyed a good card game. She played football and baseball with her kids and loved to dance the night away in her younger years. She loved water fights and no one was safe when she had the hose. We called her the energizer bunny Gma, always go-go-going, rarely resting, always helping out. Her unbiased counsel and acceptance of all was an outstanding Christian trademark of hers. She sacrificed her own comfort to make sure everyone else was accommodated - what a wonderful legacy she has left for her children, grands and greats, so very loved and remembered she will always be, every day and everywhere. She is survived by her children: Craig (Beverly), Brent (Ann), Linda Hackett, Kim, Heidi (Bob) Emery and Lizabeth (Werner) Neuteufel and their families. Her brothers: Douglas R. (Genevieve) Coleman and Roger G. Coleman. Beth Jensen - her BFF and our honorary aunt, and many wonderful relatives and friends. Preceded in death by Wendell Theodore Hackett and Rory Coleman Hackett, parents; Engrid Coleman and Harry Coleman, siblings; Harry and Arlene (died in infancy), Donna Child, Ralph Coleman, Geraldine Maughan and their spouses. A viewing will be held at Wasatch Lawn, (3401 Highland Drive), , May 10th from 6:30-8:30 with a funeral to be held in her honor , May 11th at Canyon Rim Ward Chapel at 12:00, with a viewing before services from 10:30-11:30 (3100 East 3000 South). Interment at Wasatch Lawns. The Family would like to thank all of the wonderful caregivers and friends at the Beehive House, Millcreek Hospice, aides in addition to her friends, neighbors and ward members who helped her out for years, you know who you are! Thank you so much! |
