Obituary: Dolores Sandoval Hughes was born in Jerome, AZ to Amelia (Lopez) and Pedro Sandoval. Pedro was a mine worker and construction worker and Amelia was a homemaker. Dolores was to be the second oldest daughter of their nine children. Her brothers and sisters were Reuben, Rachel, Emma, Dora, Joe, Irene, Pete and Robert. The family lived in Jerome where she attended Jerome Elementary School. The family then moved to San Jose in 1942 and Dolores attended Woodrow Wilson Jr. High and attended San Jose High School. Dolores worked in the many different canneries here in San Jose while attending Jr. High and High School. She also worked while growing up, at the Burke Rubber Co. as a line Inspector. Dolores met her present husband William (Bill) after he returned from the Army in the summer of 1958. both were in the wedding party of good friends and while they weren partners, Dolores had definitely caught Bills eye! Asking her to dance, Dolores had a headache (honest!) and she declined. Bill, being the determined man that he is, ran out and found some aspirin at a local drugstore and returned. The headache subsiding, Bill finally got Dolores on the dance floor and they danced for the rest of the wedding reception. So began the beautiful 58 years that Dolores and Bill would spend together. Bill and Dolores dated for a year and in 1959 they were pronounced Man and Wife. And as Dolores would say later it was that trip to the drug store that impressed her about this man! Bill was a construction worker in their early years and Dolores was a homemaker. As Dolores would say Thats what husbands are for! Dolores and Bill started their family a year later as Daryll, their oldest son was born, Isaac followed, then Susan, and Dolores then gave birth to their youngest Peggy. And also Frank Lawrence whom she loved as a son. Bill and Dolores shared their Love for Jesus which in 1968 led to Bills Pastoring of the Spanish Mission Church. Dolores had such a Strong and Unending Love for the Lord that she was passionate to share with everyone who crossed her path. She was always ready to share her Faith in the Lord with anyone and everyone she met and witnessed to them regarding any of lifes challenges. Dolores anointment was special in that when she spoke with you, you felt her fervent desire for you to take Jesus into your heart. She left you with a scripture or piece of the Bible that related and applied to any trial you were facing in a way only she could do, you carried that scripture, applied that scripture and thanked the Lord for putting her there to share it with you. Dolores was Truly One With the Lord Our Father! Dolores regularly attended Faith Chapel in Pleasanton and she was very involved with and loved her Faith Chapel Womens Bible Study Group. She had many dear and true friends with whom she shared her Love with the Lord. She also devoted 35 years as a volunteer ministering at The Elmwood Complex Womens Detention Facility in Milpitas. She enjoyed spending time with her loving husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and greatly valued her precious time with all. Dolores Sandoval Hughes, 82, passed away following her brief battle with cancer on 27 , 2016 to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Dolores leaves behind her devoted and loving husband William, and children Daryll (Debra) of Morgan Hill CA, Isaac of Milpitas CA, Susan (Tim) Salada of La Plata, MD and Peggy (Pete) Gonzalez of Livermore CA. She also was the very proud Grandmother to 11 Grandchildren and 2 Great Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her Mother and Father Amelia and Pedro Sandoval, her brothers Reuben, Joe and Robert and her sister Rachel. She is survived by her loving sisters Emma, Dora and Irene all of San Jose, CA and Brother Pete of Sacramento, CA. Obituary: David F. Hughes, 88, of Newport Beach, California, died May 1, 2015 with his family by his side. graduating from Newport Harbor High School, David served in the United States Navy during World War II. He then earned his bachelor's and master's degrees and administrative credential from the University of Southern California. He was a teacher and a school principal for over 30 years, teaching and serving elementary and junior high school students in the Anaheim, Placentia, West Covina and El Cajon school districts. David was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was also a member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church and the Balboa Bay Club for many years. David is survived by his devoted wife Taja, daughters Cindy Hughes (son-in-law Paul Schmidhauser) and Stacy Hughes Hutcheson (son-in-law Gary Hutcheson), granddaughters Hayley Hutcheson, Caroline Schmidhauser and Madeleine Schmidhauser, brother Michael (Jeannie), brother-in-law Gaylord Tohill (Marsha), numerous nieces and nephews and other family and friends. The family would also like to thank David's good friend and caregiver, Javier Avalos. David's parents and his brother John predeceased him. A competitor all his life, David was a four sport letterman in high school. David was later a champion volleyball player, playing both two man and six man volleyball, on the beach and indoors. He was on the United States National Volleyball team and won many beach volleyball tournaments up and down the Southern California coast. In his mid-40s, David switched from volleyball to tennis and played tennis into his early 80s. David was also a high caliber pool player, card player and bowler and a passionate sports fan, particularly of tennis, volleyball, professional basketball and college football. In recent years, he competed in his new favorite game, Rummikub, and, as always, enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. David was the life of every party, with many wonderful stories and jokes to share with everyone he met. He will be greatly missed. As per David's request, his ashes will be scattered near Corona del Mar State Beach, where he spent many happy days playing volleyball. |
