Obituary: Wilburt Edgar Hobbs - master wood craftsman ‘Willie’ our ‘Uncle Bud’ Wilburt Hobbs of Paso Robles died at home 8th at 95 years. Born in Medicine Hat, Alberta Canada in 1919 to Edgar and Rosa Hobbs. The family moved to Atascadero’s Tent City that year with his father employed as E.G. Lewis’ master gardener. He helped his family at age 14 by driving for Paso’s Crescent Dairy and then graduated from Atascadero High School. Wilburt served as Staff Sergeant in the Army’s 17th Infantry Regiment from 1941 to 1945, surviving countless beach landings from the Aleutians to the South Pacific. discharge he worked in the Atascadero post office while helping at his father’s ½ acre greenhouse which supplied flowers to Camp Roberts enlistees. Willie apprenticed at Western Cabinet Works in Paso, purchased and ran it for many years. Over 200 Atascadero homes enjoy his cabinetry excellence. He also built numerous pieces of furniture. For recreation he built an inboard for water skiing on the newly formed Lake Nacimiento. Wherever he lived he built a greenhouse. He selflessly helped out friends and others in need and was always there for family. In retirement he enlarged his skills by helping build 2 homes, 2 shops and a barn for family in Paso. He enjoyed trailering with his sister and friends on the Klamath River, catching many salmon there. At home he always treasured working his vegetable garden, and of course – eating pies. He will remain so dear to our hearts. Wilburt is survived by his niece Lynda Priebe (Durward), their children Laura Marshall and Jonathan Priebe (Renee), and their grandchildren Christopher Renfrow, Elizabeth Priebe and Jordan Priebe. He was preceded in death by his sister Norah Pierce, brother Cyril Hobbs and nephew Robert Pierce. A memorial service with refreshments will be held at his home 21 from 2 to 4PM. Obituary: Vena Lenore Hobbs was born in Arkansas to Benjamin and Ada Hall. She was the second child of four. She married her best friend Troy Eli Hobbs on 5, 1935. had two sons, Troy Richard and Danny Michael. She loved to paint, read, and bottle hunt, play cards and enjoyed every moment with her family and friends. She was the Armona Lions Club mother of the year in 1988. She was also one of the founders of the Armona Senior center where she loved to go and have lunch and visit with friends and listen to music. She was the oldest living member of the United Methodist Church in Armona and was heavily involved in the luncheons every month for many years. She also enjoyed Daffodil Days with the American Cancer Society. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Troy (1985) her two sons, and a sister and brother. She is survived by her daughter in law Darlene, granddaughter Lori Draper (Danny), Grandson Erik Hobbs (Sylvia) granddaughters Kim and many Hobbs. She had five grandchildren and three great, great grandchildren. Also a sister Helen Jean Arend of Fresno Ca. A Visitation will be held , 22, 2016, 5:00-7:00 pm at Chapel, 501 N Douty St, , CA. A Graveside service will be held , 23, 2016, 10:30 am at Grangeville , 10428 14th Ave, Armona, CA. Family and Friends are invited to view Venas legacy at www.peoplesfuneralchapel.com and send condolences to the family. These condolences will later be added to a keepsake book for the family. |

Obituary: Teruko O. Hobbs SOLANA BEACH Teruko was born in Osaka, Japan in 1930. Her young life was, of course, lived under wartime conditions. Her family lost two houses, due to bombing during WWII, so things were not easy.Teruko came to America and lived for a time in Columbus, Ohio. During this time, she became a naturalized citizen of the United States and then moved to New York.Teruko met her husband in Manhattan in 1962. were married in Baltimore, Maryland in 1967. She also graduated from the Maryland Institute of Art in Baltimore, Maryland the same year.Teruko's three greatest loves, after her husband, were Shodo (Japanese calligraphy) Haiku (Japanese poetry) and her schnauzers.Teruko excelled in calligraphy, studying directly under Seki Ryohe, 8th Dan, the most senior sensei in the United States, teaching traditional Japanese Shodo. Seki sensei awarded Teruko, Sandan status, Third Dan prior to his death. She studied haiku for over 12 years as a member of Misaki Hao Haiku Association in Tokyo and she was selected for the prestigious special Dorning designation. Teruko published a book covering her many years in the study of Haiku, which was well received in Japan. She was Secretary-Treasurer of Shuo Haiku Kui in San Diego for five years and served as President for one year.She was a manager of the Chinese Pavilion Restaurant and Cocktail Lounge in mid-town Manhattan for three years and later The Hawaiian Room Supper Club, Emerson Hotel Baltimore for four years. Jim and Teruko were schnauzer lovers and over the years had seven Schnauzer companions.Teruko is survived by her husband, James N. Hobbs of Solana Beach, CA; and two younger sisters, Haruko and Yoshie of Osaka, Japan. - |
