Obituary: George Robert Hugman, III, M.D, 59, was born May 17, 1955, in Galveston, Texas, the son of Joyce Plummer Hugman and the late Dr. George Robert Hugman, Jr. He passed away 2, 2015, in Nacogdoches, Texas, while doing what he loved to do each morning-tending to his patients. George, or Trey to his family, was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, and son.

He was raised in Gladewater, Texas. His interest in medicine was sparked at an early age when his father, a long-time family physician, found him digging through his house call bag and warned him, Don touch it! He quickly began telling his mother that he too was going to be a doctor with his very own bag of don touch its. He stayed true to this passion, graduating with his bachelors degree in biology from Austin in 1977. He attended University of Texas Sciences in Houston for graduate studies in physiology where he met the love of his life and best friend, Lou Ellen Hackenberry. were married on 5, 1981. He graduated from Baylor of Medicine in Houston with his medical degree in 1981.

his 3-year family medicine residency in Tulsa, Oklahoma, he and his young family moved back to the piney woods of East Texas and made their home in Nacogdoches. a year of working in the emergency room at Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital he opened his own family medical practice, now known as East Texas Physicians , fulfilling his childhood dream. He was quickly embraced by the community as a caring physician, enthusiastic soccer dad, insightful Boy Scout leader, and compassionate friend.

He was deeply involved in local, state, and national medical associations, taking on numerous leadership roles-most recently becoming the Chief Medical Officer at Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital-all with the goal of ensuring that his community had the highest quality of medical care.

To his family and friends he was known for much more than his medical work, he was an avid water skier, tennis player, adventurer, sailor, dancer (delighting his wife and occasionally making his children blush), teacher of obscure facts, and master margarita maker.

He is survived by his wife Lou; his son Luke Benning Hugman and his wife Brooke of Fort Worth; his daughter Rachel Elaine Hugman and Jake Travers of Washington, D.C.; his mother Joyce Plummer Hugman of Gladewater; his brothers and their wives, James Hugman and Anne of Longview, Christopher Hugman and Lisa of Austin; his sister Elaine Berringer and her husband, John, of San Antonio; his nephews, Michael Berringer and Robert Hugman; and his nieces Elissa Hugman, Elizabeth and Jennifer Berringer, and Heather and Claire Hugman.

A memorial service for family and friends will be held on , 8, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church in Nacogdoches.
