Obituary: Judith Dean Houghton, accomplished choreographer and event specialist, died 19, 2012 at the age of 72. Ms. Houghton was born in Rawlins, Wyoming and moved to Texas at the age of 3. She was blessed with, and is survived by, her sister Susan and brothers Bill and Richard. She studied dance and drama at the University of Texas. Not long after graduating in 1957, Ms. Houghton choreographed shows in Dallas, Austin, Galveston, and Texas City, and began teaching at a new dance school in Dallas. She was affiliated with the Southern Methodist University dance faculty and produced live shows at Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio, at Six Flags locations in Texas and Georgia, and at Marine World and Seven Seas. She also partnered with Charles R. Meeker, Jr. and others in the operation of Charlies Place in Fort Worth. Ms. Houghton worked with show business legends such as Bob Hope, the Smothers Brothers, and Jimmy Durante while serving as Vice-President and General Manager of Miss Teenage America. She not only produced the Miss Teenage America national telecast for many years, but traveled the world producing Miss Universe pageants. Her credits include countless major productions for communities as well as major corporations such as Dr. Pepper. She took joy in spotlighting young talent - several Broadway and television personalities made their professional debuts in her shows. Ms. Houghton went on to work as Communications Director for the Alzheimers Association in Dallas and as meeting planner for the Texas Payroll Conference, which honored her with the creation of an annual educational scholarship in her name. She is survived by a large and loving family and a wide circle of friends. A memorial service for Ms. Houghton will be held on , 28, at 4:00 pm at Sparkman Hillcrest . Her ashes will be scattered at the grave site of her parents, Mr. Irvin C. and Mrs. Dorothy Houghton, in the Galveston Memorial near Hitchcock, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to the Alzheimers Association. |

Obituary: Fannie Mack Houghton, 89, stepped into the glory of Heaven on , 23, 2011. Fannie was born 10, 1921 in Gilmer, TX to Robert and Mary Martha Ellison. She graduated valedictorian from Gilmer High School. Fannie moved to Midland, TX where she met a young soldier, William A. Houghton, and married on 29, 1945. Fannie retired from Southwestern Drug in 1984. She was a member of First Assembly of God Midland. Fannie was a loving, incredible wife, mother, grandmother. She loved to work in her flower garden, knitting, quilting, crossword puzzles and Skip Bo. Following retirement Fannie loved traveling to visit family and friends. She will truly be missed by all who love her. Fannie was preceded in death by her husband William and twin sister Annie Mitchell. Survivors include two sons: William M. Houghton and wife Sandra of Huntsville, AL; Rev. Cliff H. Houghton and wife Karen of Amarillo, TX; her grandchildren, David Houghton and wife Michele of Franklin, TN; Susan Coffey and husband Billy of Sachse, TX; Heather Houghton of Amarillo, TX; and three great grandchildren. |

Obituary: Gerald Allen Houghtaling, devoted and beloved husband, father and Papou left us too soon on 15, 2006. Jerry was born on 12, 1937, in Harlingen, Texas. He served with the US Navy on the carrier USS Oriskaney and was honorably discharged in 1963. On 4, 1965, Jerry married Athena Penett, at Annunciation Cathedral in Houston, Texas. He graduated from the University of Houston in 1970, and was a respected mechanical engineer for over 38 years. He fostered his love of travel by starting Zeus Trucking and drove cross-country stopping to visit his children and friends. Jerry was an active participant in the lives of his children and touched the lives of many of their friends. He was proud of his childrenÂs successes and instilled in them the same strong work ethic learned while growing up on a farm in Rio Hondo, Texas. He never said,  o to a request for help. Jerry was a cancer survivor, a loyal American and embraced the Greek traditions that became a part of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents; Kathryn and Albert Houghtaling and Helen and Steve Penett; brother-n-law, Thomas Steve Penett; grandparents, Martha and Morris Houghtaling; and his Koumbara, Angero Wright. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Athena; sons, Gus and Greg; daughters, Becky & Scott Schiefelbein and their daughter, Nina, and Cyndi & Chris Keyes; sisters, Ruth & Kenneth Fultz, and Linda & Frank Matz; sisters-in-law, Martha Penett and Sylvia MacFarlane; extended family and life long friends including his Rio Hondo High School Class. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in JerryÂs name to the Community Church of Rio Hondo, 122 Mira Mar, Rio Hondo, Texas 78583, 956 748-2387. |
