Obituary: Lillian Svoboda Holton, born 25, 1925 in Floresville, TX to Jerry & Betty (Jasek) Svoboda, passed away on 27, 2014. Lillian is preceded in death by her parents, brother, Jerry "Sonny" Svoboda, sister, Helen Matula, first husband, Virgil McDonald and second husband, Leonard Holton. She is survived by daughter, Linda Patterson of Gonzales, TX; brother, Herman Svoboda of Houston, TX; sister, Betty Krenek (David) of Spring Branch, TX; granddaughter, Tiffany Weiser (Cody) of Shiner, TX; 3 great-grandchildren: Wyatt, Cross & Rowan Rankin; two step-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces & nephews. As the oldest of five children, Lillian was helpful on the farm & was grateful to complete 8th grade before beginning work away from home to help support her family. marriage, Lillian became an active member of Lakewood Baptist Church & served as a school teacher. She always made her faith apparent to everyone that knew her. Her professional career began when she & her husband were instrumental in beginning the family established floor company, Forsythe Floor that is still thriving in Houston, TX today. Even with a hectic career, she always found time to engage her impeccable seamstress skills. In her early retirement years, she enjoyed traveling abroad, vegetable & ornamental gardening, but will be remembered mostly for the joy she showed in her handwork, crocheting & embroidering gifts & donations for so many. She was also an expert in country life & cooking. her health began to decline, it never inhibited her positive, joyful and inspiring spirit which was unforgettable for anyone who met her. Conversation was never lacking, for Lillian loved to chat with anyone, strangers or loved ones alike. However, Lillian was overall best at the patience she had as a loving & nurturing grandmother & great-grandmother and would endlessly read books to them & tell unforgettable stories. Her memory will remain forever. |

Obituary: Laverne Bates Holton, age 89, of Georgetown, Texas passed away on , May 30, 2014. Laverne was born 12, 1924 in Port Arthur, Texas to William Britton and Anna Pearl Sears Bates. She was preceded in death by her husband Gordon Russell Flash Holton; brother, William B. Bates, Jr. She is survived by her daughters Patricia Holton Lacombe of Georgetown, Texas, Paige Holton Lamothe and husband Paul of Baton Rouge, LA; three grandchildren Jared, Caitlin and Haley Lamothe. She is also survived by a younger sister, Dorothy Bates Birmingham of Houston, TX. Laverne attended Texas State for Woman in Denton, TX and Stephen F. Austin University where she received her academic degrees in education. She was a devoted elementary teacher and passionate principal for over 40 years in the Port Arthur Independent School District. She and her husband Flash moved to Sun City in Georgetown to enjoy the scenic hill country and Texas Longhorn football. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Georgetown, Texas. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on , 7, 2014 in the Chapel of Ramsey . Her final resting place will be in Port Arthur, Texas next to her husband and parents. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Lavernes long-time friend Herb Germer, Sun City neighbors and dear friends at First Presbyterian Church for their care and friendship.
