Obituary: Laura Taylor Holmes, 70, went home to be with her Lord and Savior , 8, 2010. A celebration of her life will be held , 11th at 11:00 a.m. at Brethren Church of Station/Bryan. Laura was born 9, 1940 in Buras, Louisiana to Kenneth Alfred and Bertha Mae (Bertram) Taylor. She and her family lived in southern Louisiana for seven years before moving to Beaumont, Texas. She was baptized into the Christian faith at the age of 12 at Rosenberg Methodist Church. Laura graduated from high school in Rosenberg and attended the University of Houston earning a Bachelors of Science degree in Mathematics in , 1962. Following graduation, she began teaching in the Spring Branch I.S.D. In 1964, she married Ronald Edwin Holmes and they moved to Columbus, Ohio and started a family. her children were grown, she went back to school and received a Masters of Science degree from Texas A&M University in 1988. She began working for the for Presidential Studies, which was the research center that supported the presidential library in affiliation with the political science department at Texas A&M. Laura lived life to the fullest and was involved in many activities including bridge, square dancing, extensive traveling, exercise, crafts, interior decorating, and cooking. She made her children and grandchildren a priority in her life and always had fun events planned for everyone. Laura was actively involved with the Brazos Valley Republican party; she even had the opportunity to meet Presidents, George H. W. Bush and George W. Bush. Laura volunteered countless hours in the community. She volunteered with the Brazos Valley Food Pantry, Brazos Valley Hospice, RSVP, the HOSTS program in the Bryan school district, and the Senior Committee. She was instrumental in establishing a Senior Citizen Community in Station. Laura was a benefactor to several international ministries, the Boys and Girls Ranch, Cal Farley and Still Creek Ranch. She made sure that our military personnel in Iraq were still thought of, by sending packages and corresponding to soldiers. Her parents precede Laura in death. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Ed and Shannon Holmes, Chatham, NJ, Suzanne and Simon Davies, London, U.K., Kenneth Wesley and Zhanna Holmes, West Columbia, Texas, Bonnie and Gregg Hess, Coppell, Texas; grandchildren, Hailey and Holden Holmes, Sophie and John Davies, Kenny Holmes, Danielle, Eli, Jake and Mollie Hess; and her close friend, Gemma Hughbanks. Obituary: Josephine Margueritte Holmes, 91, passed away on , 29, 2015 in Ft. Worth, TX. services will be 10:30a.m., , 2, 2015 at Belmont Baptist Church, 2117 Palm St., Abilene, TX with Allen Alexander officiating. Burial will be in DeLeon at 2:30p.m. on under the direction of Elliott-Hamil , 542 Hickory St. Josephine Margueritte Haney affectionately known as JO was born on 5 1923 and passed into the presence of her Lord on 29 2015. She was 91 years of age. JO was a beloved wife, a loving mother and homemaker. She loved her children and their families, her Women on Mission Union circle of friends and work, her church and the many friends that she made through these. She served as a schoolteacher, a pastors wife, as a missionary along side of her husband in Latin America and in the US. retirement she volunteered in many ways, teaching English as a second language, serving as a volunteer in a special care facility in Dalhart, mentoring people in homemaking, and recently with one of her daughters in the Abilene Baptist Social ministry. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Evan Festus Holmes, on15 1997; and by her sister, Burbounette Snyder in 1997. JO is survived by her children, their spouses and families; Rebecca and Allen Alexander, Evan Michael and Cathy Holmes, Carolyn and David Field, and Lane and Kathy Holmes; 7 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; her brother-in-law, James Snyder; and three nephews. There are a multitude of cherished friends from many places that she loved and held in her heart. |

Obituary: On 22, 2015, Joseph Robert (Bob) Holmes of Meadowlakes, Texas, died at the age of 91. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Orville and Hilda M. Holmes, and brothers Jack Leo Holmes and James Orville Holmes Jr. He is survived by his wife, Winifred Holmes, son Christopher Holmes of Houston, daughter Suzanne Mery Salings and husband Brian of Kentucky, grandsons Jason Mery and wife Kris Marie and Trevor Mery and several great grandchildren. Bob was born in Ashland, Kansas 24, 1924. At the age of four, the family moved to southern California where he grew up. At the age of 18 he went into the United States Army and served with the 78th Infantry Division in the European campaign. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, the Combat Infantry Badge, the American Campaign and European/African/Middle East Medal with three campaign stars, the Distinguished Unit Badge, Expert Rifleman Badge and Good Conduct Medal. While at Kansas State University, Bob was in advanced R.O.T.C., eventually rising to the rank of Cadet Colonel and Battalion commander and was finally commissioned a 2nd Lt in the reserves. While Bob was attending Kansas State University, he had a blind date with a good looking airline hostess who ended up being his lifetime wife. Bob said that this was the best thing that ever happened to him. Before moving to Meadowlakes, Bob and Win lived in Manhattan, Kansas, Pratt, Kansas, Kansas City, Missouri, Alice, Texas, Dallas, Texas and Houston, Texas. have lived in Texas since 1954. While in Houston, Bob and Wins happy times were spent cruising Galveston Bay in their 27 sailboat. This hobby kept them busy on weekends for many years. Bob retired from Solar Turbines, Inc. in 1984. He served as a Senior Sales Engineer. Bob was an active member of St. Peters Lutheran Church, having served on the Church Council, and as a Lector and Usher. He had been a long-term member of Highland Lakes Birding and Wildflower Society and Marble Falls Seniors Activity . He was also a member of the Highland Lakes Flyers Club which was his favorite hobby of radio controlled model airplanes. retiring, Bob and Win traveled extensively with their truck, pulling a large 5th wheel trailer throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. Bob had stated that life has been very good to him, having furnished a loving and caring wife for 68 years and two great kids in Chris and Suzanne.
