Obituary: Thomas Henry Holman passed away peacefully in his sleep , 3, 2014, following a long battle with cancer and its complications. He was born 23, 1935 in San Antonio, Texas where he lived all of his life. He graduated from the University of Texas 1, 1957 and married Janelle Straiton on 2, 1957. Henrys professional career in the insurance industry began with Maryland Casualty and continued with the Insurance of New York. He obtained his Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter designation in 1962, taught CPCU classes to numerous insurance professionals from 1963 to 1970, and served as President of the Alamo Chapter in 1965. He left the company side of the industry to become an Independent Agent in the partnership of Negrelli-Holman Insurance in the early 1970s, then broke off on his own to launch Henry Holman Insurance in 1974. Along the way, Henry also began to invest in rental real estate, and was at one point very active in the San Antonio Apartment Association, including serving as its President in 1979. While in the insurance industry, back in the days when companies awarded trips to their more successful agents, Henry caught the travel bug; and his semi-retirement in 1990 left him more time for his travels all over the world. He enjoyed everything from Green Tortoise bus tours of the U.S., camping through South America, and cruising various oceans and rivers, to taking package tours throughout Europe and Asia - accompanied on the latter two by his wife. He claimed to have visited 85 different countries, and loved to tell tales of the sights that he saw.and especially of the varied cuisine that he ate. His full retirement in 1996 gave him time for a new passion - cooking - after, quote, avoiding kitchens for nearly 40 years. He loved experimenting with all kinds of cuisine, eventually owned hundreds of cookbooks, and avidly watched several cooking channels. He loved his Longhorn football games and his San Antonio Spurs basketball games, and alternatively loved, hated, and tolerated the Dallas Cowboys. Henry is survived by his loving wife of over 57 years, Janelle Straiton Holman; his daughter Shirley Holman Colyer and her husband Chris; his son Thomas Henry Holman, Jr. and his wife Kim; and his son William Straiton Holman; along with eight grandchildren, two grandchildren-in-laws, and five great-grandchildren. Services will be held on , 9th at 3:00 P.M. at the Coker United Methodist Church, 231 E North Loop Rd, San Antonio, TX 78216, with a reception immediately following. The family respectfully requests that, in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to the Columbarium Fund at Coker United Methodist Church, or to a charity of your choice. |

Holman; parents: James and Mae Wilkerson; sisters: Audry Bass and Carol Kelly; nephew, Darvis Bass; niece, Lisa Kelly; great nephews: Jody Bass and Stewart Bass. Left to cherish her precious memories: son, Larry Holman and wife Kathy; daughter, Carol Ballard; grandchildren: LaShonna Story, Crystal Gaudet and husband Derrick, Danna Ballard, Brandon and wife Jordon, Bryan Ballard and Lane Holman; great grandchildren: Justus and Staesha Alvarez, Bailey and Avery Gaudet, Harley Juarez, Graison Swope and Kinlee Ballard; 2 sisters-in-law along with numerous nieces and nephews and her faithful companion, Turbo. Visitation will be , May 17, 2015 from 5-8pm. Services will be held at 1pm, , May 18, 2015 in the Grand Chapel of Brookside . Interment will follow in Brookside Memorial Park.
