Obituary: Visitation for James (Jim) Finas Holleman, Jr., 78, of Tyler, is scheduled for , May 19th, 2017, 6-8 p.m.at the Lloyd James funeral and the funeral will be held at the Whitehouse Church of Christ on , May 20th at 1:00 pm. James F. Holleman, Jr. passed suddenly and unexpectedly from this life into his eternal home in heaven on May 15, 2017.

Jim was born on 13, 1938 in Bluff City, Arkansas to the late James Jim Finas Holleman and Zada Marguerite (Henry) Holleman. He and his beloved wife, Phyllis (Judkins) Holleman, have been married for 57 years.

Jim, affectionately known as Dr. Jim or Doc, was raised in rural Arkansas, attended Harding , and later graduated from the University of Arkansas with a Bachelors degree in 1960 and a Master of Science degree from Abilene Christian in 1964. He went on to attend the Kansas City of Osteopathic Medicine, graduating in 1968. He practiced medicine for 47 years in Kansas City, Kansas and Tyler. For the first 20 years of his career as a physician, he specialized in family medicine; he later transitioned into physical medicine and rehabilitation and then eventually into pain management and addiction medicine. Doc genuinely loved his patients like family and treated them with care and excellence.

Doc was also an astute businessman, always exploring new, challenging, and diverse areas of investment; over the years, his business ventures included real estate, oil, cattle, gold, collecting fine art, developing nursing homes and retirement facilities, trading stocks, commodities, and currencies. In both his medical practice and his business ventures, he demonstrated a tireless work ethic and a passionate drive for excellence and expertise. He was famous among family, friends, and his employees for urning the midnight oil, functioning on very little sleep, and making late night phone calls, forgetting that the rest of the world was asleep.

Jim was a lifelong learner and placed a high value on education for his children; whatever area of business or medicine currently had his attention, he would delve into it wholeheartedly with a passion to become as knowledgeable as possible. He was equally interested in teaching and sharing the knowledge he had gained with others. He firmly believed that everything we have in this world belongs to God; he often told his children that God puts money and resources in this hand so that we can give it away with the other hand. We are just stewards of what He gives us. He will always be remembered for his extravagant generosity; he acted upon countless opportunities to assist people in his life who needed a fresh start or a helping hand during a difficult time.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Glenda (Holleman) Baker and one of his grandsons, William Alexander Taylor.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Jean (Judkins) Holleman; his children, Holli Holleman of Tyler; James F. Holleman, III and his wife Bonnie Holleman of Terrell; and Mia (Holleman) Forehand and her husband Foy G. Forehand II of Tyler; and his grandchildren Nicholas Taylor of Atlanta, Georgia; Caleb and Jacob Holleman of Terrell; and Tyler, Cameron, and Lydia Forehand of Tyler.

The pallbearers will be James Jay Finas Holleman, III, Foy G. Forehand, II, Nicholas Taylor, Tyler Forehand, Cameron Forehand, Caleb Holleman, and Jacob Holleman.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be sent to the Whitehouse Church of Christ, 1313 E. Main St., Whitehouse, Texas 75791 and the Tyler Type One Diabetes Foundation, 713 WSW Loop 323, Suite H, Private Mail Box 196, Tyler, Texas 75701 (www.tylertypeone.org)
