Obituary: HOLLAND, JUDGE HARRY TRACY born on 25, 1925 in Vina, Alabama to Mericous V. and Elizabeth Holland. He died in Dallas, Texas on 17, 2014. He lived in Phillips , Arkansas until he enlisted in the Marine Corps in early1942. boot camp at Camp Pendleton, he was shipped to the South Pacific where he took part in the taking of Guadalcanal and other islands. As did many other marines, he contracted malaria and was sent to a hospital in New Zealand. he recovered, he was sent back to join the marines at New Caledonia, New Hebrides, and Okinawa. He then served in China until his enlistment was over. He began as a marine private and by the end of his enlistment had become a sergeant. Harry retuned to Arkansas and entered Arkansas State as a junior having acquired freshman and sophomore credits through military testing. He graduated with a degree in history. At Arkansas State, he met Retta Holland and two years later they married while he was working on his Masters Degree in History at Southern Methodist University. He entered Law School at SMU and completed two years of study before he was called back to finish his USMC Reserve term. He was sent to Korea and took part in the Punch Bowl and other operations. He was a sergeant but had many duties beyond that because many officers had been killed leading the men in battle. He returned to SMU and after losing 2 semesters of law school, still graduated with his class. several years in private practices, he became a judge with the Office of Disability and Adjudicatory Review where he retired at the age of 80 after 35 years of service. He had fond memories of the many friends with whom he worked. He is survived by wife, Retta; son, Eric, son, Jeff and his wife, Melissa; daughter, Margaret, and granddaughter, Heather. The family wishes to thank the personnel for the loving care he received at The Highlands in Dallas. Graveside service will be held , 19, 2014 at 3:30 PM at Restland Memorial Park. |

Obituary: Joyce Holland, 72, of Grand Prairie, Texas passed away 20, 2014. She was born in Hugo, OK on 14, 1941 to John Gorrel and Haley Harwood.In of 1961 she set up on a blind date by her friend. Six weeks later she married Ernie Holland on 16, 1961. spent 53 happy years together. She was a wonderful wife and mother who always let her children know she loved them even when she had to discipline them. As her boys got older and taller than her she could just give them the mom look and would quickly start to behave. Joyce worked as an insurance clerk for Arlington Memorial Hospital. Most recently she was working as a school crossing guard. She had a passion for reading and her church; Calvary Baptist Church. She was very giving and sweet, but was never afraid to tell people the truth. She could be hard headed at time but had a good sense of humor. Other than going to lunch with the other senior women from her church she enjoyed spending time in her recliner in her pajamas. Joyce is preceded in death by her son Billy Holland and brother Jimmy Harwood.She is survived by her husband Ernie Holland, son Danny Holland, grandson Jordan Holland; brother Bill Harwood and sister Janie Harwood.Memorial Service will be , 23, 2014 at Calvary Baptist Church of Grand Prairie at 11am. |

Obituary: Joshua Ryan Holland, age 25, gently drifted to heaven on 6, 2015. Joshua was born on 28, 1990 and was the pride and joy of his loving family. He had a smile that would light up a room, a kind and gentle spirit, and a lively sense of humor. He was a graduate of Richard King High and Mary Grett Schools where he learned to be a productive and contributing part of his community and the work place. He loved competing in Special Olympics and excelled at swimming. Joshua loved his family, his friends, music, movies, dancing, and the Frio River. He loved holidays, parties, and all family celebrations. He was always the life of the party. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Holland; maternal grandparents, Millie and Jimmie Brooks; and paternal grandfather, David Blackie Holland. Joshua leaves to mourn his passing his mother, Barbara Holland; brothers, Bryan (Lori) Holland, Shaun (Alisha) Holland; sister, Melanie (Eddie) Shaw; paternal grandmother, Christina Holland; nieces and nephews, Thomas and Hunter Holland, Connor Hamilton, Carolyn Shaw, Austin and Ava Holland, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. During Joshuas battle with leukemia he was treated by the most amazing medical staff at Driscoll Childrens Hospital. We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Cris Johnson, Dr. Nkechi Mba, Dr. Manny Esquilin, P.A. Barbara Chimbunde, the loving nurses and staff at Driscolls Cancer and Blood Disorder and on the fourth tower. Extra thanks to his special nurse, Deborah Rodriguez, whom he loved dearly. Pallbearers will be Bryan Holland, Shaun Holland, Thomas Holland, Eddie Shaw, Kaleb Gates, Jake Nelson, Sr., Jake Nelson II, and Charlie Riddle. A Visitation with the family will be held at 5:00 p.m. -7:00 p.m. on , 9, 2015 at Seaside .
