Obituary: Esther Jeanette Day Hohn died , 26, 2015 in San Angelo, Texas, three weeks prior to her ninety-eighth birthday. Her survivors include her daughter, Carolyn Sunderman of San Angelo; her son, Michael Hohn of Cincinnati, Ohio; her grandson, Kurt Sunderman, previously of San Angelo but now of Chicago, Illinois; two great granddaughters, Anja and Evie Sunderman; and several nieces and nephews. Esther was born 16, 1917 in Paulding, Ohio, as the youngest of seven children (all of whom preceded her in death), and where she graduated from Paulding High School. She then attended Otterbein in Westerville, Ohio, where she graduated in 1939 , with the degrees of Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Music Education, both cum laude. There she met her future husband, Dr. Robert W. Hohn, who preceded her in death. Both she and Robert worked as music teachers in various public schools in Ohio. moved to the Dayton, Ohio area, where Carolyn was born in 1942. When Robert served in the Pacific in the United States Navy, Esther returned to her hometown of Paulding. Robert's return from the war, they pursued further education in music at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, and at Northwestern University, and then moved to Westerville, Ohio, where both taught at Otterbein and in the public schools, during which time her son, Michael was born in 1948. In 1960, the family moved to Bowling Green, Ohio, where Robert taught at Bowling Green State University and Esther continued to teach elementary music in various public schools. Upon Robert's retirement in 1980, they moved to Lago Vista, Texas where both enjoyed playing golf and bridge. She was an accomplished pianist and organist and loved cooking and baking for her family. Advancing age caused them to move to San Angelo in 2000 to be close to their daughter. Esther attended First Presbyterian Church and Emmanuel Episcopal Church in San Angelo. At the time of her death, Esther resided at Royal Estates Apartments. She died peacefully after a brief illness, surrounded her her family. Cremation is planned. A memorial service will be held , 14, 2015 at 11:00 AM in the Emmanuel Espiscopal Church, San Angelo.
