She grew up in Fayetteville, Texas. Earline is preceded in death by her husband, Quentin L. Hoffman; infant daughter, Mary Frances; granddaughter, Julia Hoffman; parents: Johnnie & Cora Hafernick; Siblings: infant brother, Gilbert, young sister, Minnie Mae, Elo & Mary Ann Veselka, Leroy & Margie Veselka, sister-in-law, Cynthia Veselka, brothers -in -law: Warren Anderson, Pat Taylor, Robert Landry, and Bill Moore; and also her long-time friend and dance partner, Florian Demny. Survivors include: son: Quentin Hoffman II & wife, Patricia, daughter: Barbara Atkins & husband, Mike, son: Johnnie Hoffman & wife, Elaine, daughter: Mary Fisher & husband Lewis; Grandchildren: Catherine Bailey & husband, James, Elizabeth Hampton & husband, Craig, Matt Hoffman & wife, Julie, Jenny Middleton & husband, Eric, Mike Atkins, Jr. & wife, Julie, Amber Atkins, Ryan Hoffman & wife Adrianne, Adam Hoffman & wife, Cecelia, Katy Hoffman, Ross Hoffman, Meghan, Caitlyn, Delaney, McKenna, Kinsley & Sheridan Fisher; Great grandchildren: Isabella, Alex, Sophia, Xavier, and Everett Bailey, Katie Atkins, Corinne & Marielle Hampton, Nathaniel, Clara & Samuel Hoffman, John Francis Middleton, Justin & Jasmine Sales, and baby Ty Hoffman on the way; Siblings: Celestine & Rudy Darilek, Cora Taylor, Matilda Moore, Delphine & Henry Nowak, and Johnnie & Dusty Veselka and also many loving nieces, nephews, and friends--old and new for all the parts and times of her life. Those who met her claimed her as their friend. Mother moved to Houston and her brother, Leroy, introduced her to her future husband, Quentin, at a Polka dance. danced their way through 29 years of marriage until his death in 1975. Our mother was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church, where she served on the Altar Society. She belonged to SPJST Lodge #88 and KJZT. She was also a cub scout leader and a member of the Friendship Club at St. Christopher Church. She loved baking and won trophies for her kolaches, cakes and pies. Mother also made pecan tarts and cookies for her grandchildrens weddings. She was a wonderful seamstress, and made clothes for herself, her daughters, and grandchildren. Mother had a very green thumb and enjoyed working in her garden and canning her homegrown pickles. She also supplied us with jelly made from her berries. Mother was loved by family and friends. She was a widow for 40 years and she continued to involve herself with many activities including quilting and ceramics, and later, bingo and dominoes. She never gave up through all the changes that came to her in life. Countless people have told us what a dear sweet lady she was. She is an example to us all of strength and faith. The family would like to thank the staff of the Regency in Schulenburg for their loving and attentive care during the last 15 months of our dear Mothers life. She will be missed by many, but we know she is dancing polkas with Daddy in heaven! |

Obituary: Adelyn Jean Hoffman, a long-time Dallas homemaker and philanthropist, passed away peacefully in her sleep on 29, 2012 at her home. She was 87 years old and had been married to Edmund M. Hoffman for 61 years. Mrs. Hoffman was devoted to her family and had two sons, Richard Edmund, a physician who resides in Denver, and Robert Kenneth, who was a business partner of Edmund and a civic leader and philanthropist. Adelyn (Adgie) was born in Victoria, Texas on 1, 1924 to Hilda Kleinsmith Nussbaum and Hervin Wolf Nussbaum. She graduated with a bachelors degree from the University of Texas in Austin in 1944 and was a member of Alpha Epsilon Phi sorority. While her husband served in the south Pacific for the United States Navy during World War II, she worked first for the U.S. Bureau of Aeronautics in San Diego and later as a teacher in San Antonio, Texas. Adelyn and Edmund moved to Dallas in 1953. She enjoyed collecting antique furniture and art and playing cards with her numerous friends. Her civic activities and charitable contributions were numerous. Along with her husband, in 1999 Mrs. Hoffman received the Charles Cameron Sprague Community Service Award, and together they established at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical the Adelyn and Edmund M. Hoffman Distinguished Chair in Medical Science, the Hoffman Endowment for Excellence in Osteoporosis Research, and the Hoffman Family for Genetics and Epidemiology. She was a strong supporter of Goodwill Industries of Dallas for many years, and Goodwills main campus was named for Adelyn and Edmund Hoffman, to honor their generous contributions. She was a volunteer for the Dallas Mental Society and served on its board of directors. She worked for a number of years as a volunteer for the Dallas Museum of Art and financially supported the Hoffman Family Senior Curator of Contemporary Art at the Museum. There were numerous other organizations she contributed to, including the Dallas Symphony, St. Marks School of Texas, the Dallas Arboretum, East Dallas Community Schools, the University of Texas at Dallas for Brain , Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas, the Stark at the University of Texas at Austin, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and the Jewish for the Aged. She was a member of Temple Emanu-El synagogue. She is survived by her son, Dr. Richard E. Hoffman of Denver; daughters-in-law Molly Bush-Hoffman and Marguerite S. Hoffman; granddaughters Charlotte, Hannah, a, and Kate Hoffman; brother-in-laws Henry R. Hoffman, Jr. and wife, Jean, of Dallas and Dr. Joseph F. Hoffman and wife, Elena, of New Haven, CT; cousins Stanley L. Crossman and Derek Kahn of Dallas; and nieces Patty McNichols and Jill Tiernan. The family wishes to express its gratitude to her assistants, Sandy Govea and Billye Mason, and to her nurses, Barbara Gilbert, Valerie Foreman-Lee, Martina Korlie Grant, and Doris Foreman, for their wonderful care and devotion. A private family graveside will be held at Temple Emanu-El at a later date.
