Obituary: Born 18, 1938 in St Joseph, MO Family moved from Missouri at age of 2, settling later in Arcadia Park in west Oak Cliff. Had good relationship with Grandfather, James Hewitt, and grew up working in his grocery store. James’ bedtime stories had a lasting effect on Dad’s love of telling stories. From his love of cars, especially fast cars, he owned a ’32 Ford Coupe and a ’41 Ford. He loved to race his cars on weekends and rebuild his transmission and/or engine on s. Dad’s mechanical aptitude was second to none He had no formal technical training other than one transmission overhaul class. In 1957 he joined the Marine Corp. In 1958 he married the one love of his life, Sandra “Sandy” Lou Berry, and purchased their first house, moving to Irving on William Brewster. First son, Richard Jr, “Ricky”, was born 1960. Six weeks prior to Richard being deployed to Korea, the treaty was signed with Communist North Korea which kept him from overseas deployment. his exemplary service, Richard was Honorably Discharged from the Marines in 1961, at the rank of Corporal. Second son, David was born in 1963. Needing a bigger house, Richard and Sandy moved to their 2nd and last residence on Chevy Chase Drive in Irving in 1969. Third son, Stephen was born in 1971. Only daughter, Susan was born in 1973. Finally, after 3 boys, they finally had the daughter they had always hoped for. Richard and Sandy were preceded in death by their first son, Ricky, who passed away in 1975. In 2005, the love of his life, Sandy, passed away. As you might expect, the loss of his first son and later his lifelong partner, Sandy, was a deep loss. Richard leaves behind his sons David and his wife, Kay, and their two sons Jake and Mark, Plano; Stephen and his wife, Moira, and their daughter, Ella and son, Eamon, Flower Mound; and his daughter, Susan, and her daughter, Emily and son, Evan, Murphy, TX. He also leaves behind his sisters Sally Cope and Debbie Wells. Richard was a friend to many and a stranger to none. Always with a contagious laugh, a great sense of humor, and an even better story teller. And his stories got better with each time he told them. He was always willing to lend a hand or advice to anyone needing help with their car or home repair. Richard was an outstanding father and provider and will be dearly missed. Many treasures and happy, lasting memories remain. We know that he is in a better place, celebrating now with Sandy, Ricky, and all his other friends and family who proceeded him in death. |

Obituary: Mrs. Hewitt was born 31, 1923, in Valley Mills, Texas, to Arthur Max Urban and Anna Martha Urban. She graduated from Cameron High School in Cameron, Texas, as salutatorian of her class. She married E. C. Hewitt in 1944 whom she met while visiting her aunt and uncle who lived on a neighboring farm. married 18, 1944. She helped him farm and ranch southeast of Hereford, Texas, for 50 years. As a farmers wife, she took care of the garden, yard, cooking, canning, sewing, chickens and cattle. She prepared and took lunches to the field during the busy plowing, planting, and harvesting times. She took excellent care of their two children and was involved in their education and school activities. Besides farming, Novella helped her husband in his various businesses including being the bookkeeper for the Hereford Cattle Auction and other properties they owned with his twin brother, L. C. She helped them operate the Playhouse Skating Rink in Hereford for 28 years. Novella and E. C. retired in 1985 and moved to Amarillo. Novella was very proud to be the first in her family to graduate from high school where she belonged to the Tomato Club which was the beginning of 4-H clubs in Milam . she married, she became a member of home demonstration clubs and was a member of Wyche Demonstration Club of Deaf Smith and Southern Country Education Extension Club of Randall since 1944. She was recognized as being one of the clubs longest active members and was once the Districts Texas Treasure. She belonged to St. Luke Presbyterian Church and was active in the Young at Heart and Circle meetings. She belonged to Church Women United where she was the Valiant Woman of the Year in 2013. Novella was preceded in death by her son, Robert Cole Hewitt in 1973 and her husband of 62 years, E. C. Hewitt in 2006. Survivors include her daughter, Lynda Sue Hewitt Duncan and son-in-law Phillip Duncan of Amarillo; grandchildren: Shanna Duncan-Treichel and her husband, Carl of Bogota, Colombia; Robert Cole Kimbell of Dickinson, North Dakota and Sean Duncan and his wife, Amy, of Austin, TX. She had five great-grandchildren: Tanner Kimbell, Tyler Kimbell, Sasha Duncan, Sadie Duncan, and Parker Treichel. She was very close to her nieces Suzanne Hewitt of Amarillo and Beverley Christiansen of Stephenville, Texas. The family suggests memorials in lieu of flowers to the Memorial Fund at St. Luke Presbyterian Church, 3001 Bell St., Amarillo, Texas or BSA Hospice, 200 NW 7th Ave., Amarillo, Texas. |
