Obituary: Mom, was born Joan Marie Gressman on 26, 1932 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Growing up in Milwaukee, she lived in an era when being considerate to others was the rule, not the exception, and she practiced that through the rest of her 83 years. graduating from Messmer High School, she worked for Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance and was 20 years old when she married Dad, became Mrs. Edward Hettenbach and her first child of three, a daughter was born a year or so later. She left her job to become a full-time mom and home-maker, a job she loved and would excel at for the rest of her life. She never missed a beat as the family followed Dads transfers with United Airlines to Colorado, Washington State, and then Texas.

Mom and Dad were inseparable in their dedication to many charities, groups and activities along the way, including Saint Rita and Saint Catherine Catholic Churches, and Mom was active with the many wives and other friends with whom she surrounded herself and forged lifelong friendships. Among these groups were the Womens Club, Autumn Fest, Hospitality and Bereavement Committees, and the Parish Office. At one time, she and some close friends made exceptionally fine handcrafted items which they sold as part of an ongoing profitable business.

Mom loved traveling, and was able to do so extensively due to Dads long career with United, casting off for destinations such as Hawaii, Spain, Ireland, Switzerland, Bermuda, Jamaica, the Bahamas and Wisconsin. When Dad retired from United to start his own business, Mom assisted in running and building the business for over 20 years.

In 2001 Mom suffered a stroke which left her unable to speak properly or use the right side of her body. She worked very hard during a long recovery period to learn to speak again, but was unable to walk unaided or use her right hand. Additional difficulties included swallowing difficulties, heart issues and repeated treatment for liver cancer. This did not stop her from living life to its fullest and regularly attending mass, and she was a constant presence as the Alley Cats Cheerleader for the Saint Catherines Bowling League until last year.

Mom rarely said a bad word about anyone, and was a devout Catholic. Her presence in our lives will be deeply missed. She leaves to cherish her memories, her daughter Christine Hettenbach, sons Mark and Paul Hettenbach, daughters-in-law Karen Ford and Angie Galvis, grand-kids Gabriela and Nicolas Hettenbach, and Coco, all of Carrollton. Her sister and brother-in-law Jean and Jim Kolpin of East Troy, Wisconsin join a host of many relatives and friends in Wisconsin, California and Texas.

We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to all the exceptional people at Atria Senior Living of Carrollton who were Moms family, and who continue to take such loving care of the people entrusted to you. You are Angels, You are Angels, You are Angels. The special people from Amity Hospice lightened our burden, took us by the hand and walked with us through the saddest moments. Thank you for being the people you are, and for the calling you have chosen. We cannot imagine a world without people like you.

Obituary: Chase…

Chase Ray Hetmer was born on 12, 1987 in Dallas, TX to Charles and Twina Hetmer of Kaufman. 26 amazing years later, God decided it was time for him to come home, and Chase passed away on 15, 2014.

It’s impossible to try and give a caption of Chase’s amazing journey through life. But we’ll try our best because it’s worth it… He’s worth it.

Chase was riddled with health issues throughout his life, but it never stopped him from being appreciative for what he had and who he was. Being thankful and caring to others was what set Chase apart from the rest. Whenever there was a reason to be thankful and loving, Chase would let you know. And when there wasn’t a reason to be, he’d certainly find one. In everything. Things that we all tend to take for granted. But not Chase. He was kind, loving, caring, appreciative… The list goes on and on. He was everything that all men strive to be, and that most men never get to be. Special. In every sense of the word.

Chase was smart. Very smart. And a lot more intelligent than anyone gave him credit for. It may be cliché, but it’s true that you really “don’t know what you’ve got, until it’s gone”. Chase touched more lives than anyone could have ever imagined. Not only his family, but the entire world around him. He was a special person. One that we all should strive to be like one day. And he will be sorely missed by anyone who had the privilege of knowing Chase and what he stood for.

Although life tended to be more difficult due to his health issues, Chase did graduate from Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired. He grew to love electronics and was pursuing a career in audio editing. Perfect for his love of movies, music, and audio books. It was a passion that grew from the time he was working in an Austin duplication company until now. He knew what he wanted to do. He was good at it. And no one was going to stand in his way. He had been attending Eastfield and was preparing to transfer to Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches in the fall. He set his sights on it, and went after it. There was no feeling sorry for himself. And no handicap too big for him to overcome. He proved it time and time again. His entire life.

Chase enjoyed spending time with his family. And was a life time member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Kaufman. He is survived by his parents , Charles and Twina Hetmer of Kaufman, brother Christopher Hetmer of Kaufman, sister Courtney Merritt of Kaufman, sister-in-law Landy Hetmer of Kaufman, brother-in-law Greg Merritt of Kaufman, grandmother Frances Hetmer of Kaufman, grandmother Daisy Harmon of Mabank, and five nieces and nephews.

Chase will be forever missed. Not just because of the kindness and loving nature he stood for, but because the world has lost a GREAT man. I pray that we will all be fortunate enough to one day walk the path that God has laid for each and every one of us. Chase did. And he did it better than anyone could ever dream of doing. We will be hard pressed to find anyone who did it better than Chase. And we will all miss him tremendously. We love you Chase.

mass for Chase will be at 11:00am, , 30, 2014 at St. Ann Catholic Church, 806 N. Washington, Kaufman, TX. Recitation of the Rosary will be at 7:00pm, , 29, 204 at St Ann Catholic church.
