Obituary: Surrounded by the loving arms of her children, Eloise completed the earthly quest God asked of her. Born in Little Rock, AR , to Cyrus and Mildred Tipton Nelson, she served God her entire life. She graduated from Little Rock High School and Hendrix . While caravanning across the U.S. for the Methodist Church, she met Rev. John Warner Hassler and they were married over 54 years. In 1952, she graduated from SMU Perkins School of Theology and began their lifelong vocation in church ministry. While her life overflowed with faith, grace, and love of God and family, there was ALWAYS room at the table or a place to sleep for a friend (or even a friend of a friend). The Methodist Church appointed John & Eloise to serve in Beaumont, Magnolia, AR, Little Rock, Lake Charles, Shreveport, Houston, Galveston, Marshall, Houston (again), West University, Beaumont (again), Missouri City and finally the Seamans at the Port of Houston. During these years, Eloise worked in the church as well as Texas Department of Public Safety, Gulf Oil, McKesson Chemical, Sysco, and retired from Methodist Hospital. Many years the family camped for two weeks in their Tipi on the Buffalo River National Park. retirement, Eloise and John loved to cruise with family and friends to Hawaii, Portugal, Alaska, Israel, Jordan and Canada. Eloise is preceded in death by her parents and husband. She is survived by her children: Jane and husband Harold Pate of Austin, Carol Hassler Howard, Dave and wife Lisa DeBerardino Hassler, and Sheri Hassler Hightower, all of Conroe. Grandchildren: Jason Radican, Jennifer Hassler Darnell, Jonathan Taylor Howard, Caitlin Hassler Davis, Jewels Howard and Nico Birdwell; and 7 great-grandchildren; and her brother, Dick Nelson and family from Little Rock, AR. Our family would like to express appreciation for the outstanding care of Mom by Robert & Lorena Stone, and loving staff of Genesis Senior (14552 FM 2854, Montgomery, TX) and Compassionate Hospice. cared for Mom and the entire family with extraordinary dignity and compassion for the past 2-1/2 years. The family would also like to thank her amazing private caregivers for the unselfish time they committed to her: Carolyn Rose Johnson at home in 2007 - 2009; LaTresha Lovelady and Cawanda Jones during her health crisis in 2014. Obituary: THE YOUNGEST MARAUDER PILOT CLAIM: IS SHATTERED AGAIN Leroy Y. Hassler of the 394th Bomb Group, 587th Bomb Squadron was born 20, 1925. On 4, 1944, Leroy got his wings at Altus, Oklahoma and then teethed in the Martin B-26 Marauder at Lake Charles, Louisiana. Leroys first combat mission was on 5, 1945 and his 14th was on 19, 1945-14 combat missions in a month and a half. In between those combat missions, he had some abort missions that did not count-as we all did when weather and other factors frustrated the operations. Reading from Hasslers letter, he had only 9 years of formal schooling when he passed the entry physical and the two-year college equivalence test. He graduated from Pilot training 4, 1944 at Altus, Oklahoma. His B-26 training was at Lake Charles, Louisiana from where he went to England and was assigned to the 394th Group, 587th Squardon in France and then Holland. His flight (1st Pilot) was to Munich, Germany to visit his brother at the Dachau Concentration Camp. What is remarkable about Leroys story is that at the end of the war he flew to Munich for the purpose of contacting his brother Alvin Hassler who served in the Army and was part of the ground force division that has liberated the Dachau Concentration Camp. That contact was successfully made and an account of the meeting was published in the Lebanon Pennsylvania Daily News. HASSLER Chief Master Sergeant Leroy Yarnold Hassler passed away on , 22, 2012 at the age of 87. Leroy was born on 20, 1925 in Lebanon, PA. He completed over 35 years of Federal Service. His wife Ann (Bolling) Hassler and grandson Le Mans Hassler preceded him in death. He is survived by five children; six grandchildren; and twelve great grandchildren.
