Obituary: Eleanor Harsch came into this world on 28, 1915 and left it for life eternal on 7, 2010. Her family and friends will celebrate her life at 1 p.m. in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Miles, with the Reverend Diane Eggemeyer officiating after a private graveside service at the Miles . Family visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. at Johnsons , 435 W. Beauregard Ave. in San Angelo. are by Johnsons . The arrival of Emma and Frederick A. Sallings first daughter was noted by her father on 28, 1915 in his diary: Our baby girl born. Planted maize. That humble spirit never left her, as she spent the next 95 years quietly living a life of love and service to her family, her faith and her community. Eleanor first met Werner Harsch when she was five years old, tagging along with her dad to see about some horses. She and Werner became friends, and were married on Nov. 15, 1936, the start of a 73 year marriage that grew stronger every year. She graduated Miles High School in 1934, but never stopped being a Bulldog, as she worked as director of food service for 22 years in Miles, and her food was so well-known that visitors to the school always seemed to find a reason to schedule their meetings around lunchtime. Following her retirement, she became secretary for Germania Insurance, following her father, before finally retiring from that position 20 years later when, at age 80, she decided she was too old to be climbing ladders to inspect roofs. She and Werner were lifetime members of both the Miles PTA and the Miles Booster Club and were honored with lifetime passes to all Bulldog sporting events. For over 50 years, they missed few home football games, often watching from the best seats, as they would drive their truck behind the south end zone. While Eleanor retired from the school district, she continued to share her love of cooking with the community. If there was a meal at the activity, she cooked at least part of it, as a look at her Corningware shows, with the masking tape with her name singed from repeated use. The bowls always made their way back to her, and shed happily fill them and bring them back. She frequently provided food for the Miles Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and always baked her famous rolls for Fort Concho Water Utilities Association meetings in Miles, as well as bake sales for any event in Miles, with her pies and cakes already sold before she got them out of the oven. Visitors and family members learned to bring an empty stomach to her house and her kitchen, where there was often a pan of rolls or coffee cake waiting. She will be remembered in the same church where she was baptized, confirmed and married, and where, on 28, 95 people attended her 95th birthday party. Each Christmas Eve, her hand-painted nativity scene welcomes the guests to Trinity Lutherans candlelight service, one of her favorite family traditions. Eleanor was an active member, teaching School, along with participating in the choir in the same church her grandparents were charter members of, setting an example of faith and love for her family, friends and community. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Miles Trinity Lutheran Church, Box 265, Miles, TX 76861; Miles Senior Citizens, Box 145, Miles, TX 76861; or a charity of your choice. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Martha Salling Caudle; brothers Marvin and Ernest Salling and her son, Hollis Harsch. Her life and her love live on for Werner Harsch, her husband of 73 years; daughter in law Hazel Harsch of San Angelo, grandson Johnny Harsch and wife Cecilia of Fort Worth, granddaughter Monique McAllister and husband Dr. Chris McAllister of Hot Springs, Ark. and great-grandchildren Nikolas and Zarah; daughter Mary Thorn and husband Gayland of Fredonia, granddaughter Cyndi Barnett and husband Mike of Luling, great-grandchildren Kati and Michael; son Bob Harsch and wife Janice of Amarillo, grandson Travis Harsch of Austin, granddaughter Tamsen Oglesby and husband Tommy of Pearland; brother Fred E. His first assignment was in Dayton, Ohio as a Sales Engineer, covering Indiana, Ohio, western Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Kentucky. Sons David and Steven were born in Dayton. He was Manager of the Fort Wayne, Indiana plant for several years before transferring to the company headquarters in Fort Worth. He spent the rest of his career in Fort Worth, serving as General Manager of Operations and Vice-President of Operations. He retired in 1991 after 38 years. Stratoflex, a part of Ken Davis Industries, was sold to Parker Hannifin Corp. in 1988. Warren was raised in the Lutheran Church. He became a Presbyterian in 1951 when he married JoAnn Moore. were active in the Presbyterian Church. Warren was an Elder for 30 years in two cities: Fort Worth & Odessa.
