Obituary: Mary Harris went to be with the Lord on , 10, 2016 surrounded by family and loved ones. Mary was born on 22, 1935 in Heifer Holler, Kentucky. She was born to Sylvina Adams Williams and Harlan E. Williams. Mary married Albert Gayle Brown in May 1952 and was the mother to 4 children. She is preceded in death by her mother and father, husbands, Albert Gayle Brown and Bill Harris, and son, Kevin Douglas Brown. Mary was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Evant where she was very involved in Kids Club, school and singing with the children. She loved singing in church and was like a mother to many other children besides her own. She had an open door policy that helped raise many neighborhood kids and loved them all. She loved teaching them about church, family, and the Lord. Survivors include daughter, Texanne Brown Watson and husband, Bill Watson of Hamilton; sons, Albert Gayle Brown "JR" and wife, Nikki Brown of Merkel, and Charles Timothy Brown "Timmy" and wife, Renea of Merkel. Also, sisters, Irma Sue Weeks of Evant and Rita Castle of Indiana, along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mary worked as a teachers aide with the special education program in Hamilton and also worked as a nurses aide at the Hamilton Hospital where she loved caring for patients and their families. She loved her church family and was very involved with the Evant Volunteer Fire Dept. where she worked as a dispatcher. Mary was a wife, mother, sister, mamaw, and meme and was always proud and vocal about her passions in life. She loved painting and enjoyed working with her flowers and plants. She was the rock of the family, always holding everything and everyone together. Mary always saw the good in everyone and will be missed by so many. services will be held at the First Baptist Church of Evant on , 13, 2016 at 10 am. Viewing will be held that morning at 9 am. Obituary: Mary Elizabeth Harris (Nee Johnston) Mary lost her battle with cancer on 9, 2015, not without a fight. She was 67 years old. Mary was born in Orange, NJ and was a native of Verona, NJ where she graduated from Verona Public Schools and then from Harcum Jr. and Florida International University with a degree in accounting. Mary moved to Florida in 1972, working at La Gorce Country Club and then Johnson Controls. She relocated to Dallas, TX in 1999 and retired in 2007. In 2004 she married Wayne Harris. What Mary loved the best was her motor coach travels with her husband, dog Lucky and their cat Kat. Mary was involved in the North Texas/Maverick Harley Owners Group. She and her husband were secretaries of the Group for two years. Mary was the daughter of the late George and Elizabeth Johnston, and the loving sister to the late Jane Collins (Gary) NJ and sister Peggy Bristow (Mike) of New Hampshire. Adoring aunt to Jennifer Schuck (Brian) NJ, and Stephanie Reed (Brian) NY and, great aunt to Sarah and Rebecca Schuck NJ, and Austin Reed NY. Mary was the stepmom to Tiffany Wright (Michael) Tyler, TX and Tara Rhodes (James) Athens, TX; adoring stepgrandmom to Katarina Wright, Toby and Madison Rhodes. Obituary: Memorial services for Mary Harris, 84, will be at noon at Pershing Park Baptist Church. Pastor Joda Weston will officiate. Ms. Harris died 1, 2011, at the Temple Living West in Temple. She was born and raised in Minden and was a graduate of Minden High School. She was the youngest daughter of Walter Tip Hays and Hattie Tucker Hays. Ms. Harris loved the Piney Woods of East Texas and her last wishes included spreading her ashes near her childhood home. She accepted Jesus Christ as her savior in her youth and was ready to meet the Lord. Ms. Harris loved bowling, sewing, country and western dancing, and watching golf and the Dallas Cowboys. She worked as a cashier for many years at the Main PX at Fort Hood and also worked as a nursery worker for several years at Pershing Park Baptist Church. She had lived in Killeen since 1964 and was a founding charter member of Pershing Park Baptist Church. Ms. Harris was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Oma Phillips, Loma Spiller and Odette Crow; a brother, Walter "Sonny" Hays; and a daughter, Sandra Brumfield. Survivors include a brother, Nealie Wayne and his wife, Willene Hays, of Minden; daughters, Wanda and her husband, Jasper Honeycutt, of Holly Grove, Ark., and Debbie and her husband, Randy Thompson, of Schertz; and two sons, Ron and his wife, Noemi Harris, of Killeen and Mark Harris of Harker Heights. She is also survived by six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Pershing Park building fund. The family would like to say thank you for all the expressions of love and concern shown to them during this time. Crawford-Bowers in Killeen is in charge of arrangements. |
