Obituary: Burton Dillard Hammons passed away from this life into eternal life with Jesus Christ on 8, 2015, two days after his 96th birthday. He was our beloved and cherished brother, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Burton was born in Cherokee on 6, 1919 to Harrison Henry Hammons and Lottie Ann George Hammons. He married the love of his life, Dorothy Louise Williams on 15, 1945. She preceeded him in death on 26, 2012, after 67 years of marriage. Also waiting for him in Heaven were his parents; grandson Andrew Robert White; brother Paul Cameron Hammons; sister-in-law Elsie Wilburn Adams; brother-in-law Braxton P. Junnie Williams; and his parents-in-law B.B and Pauline Williams. He is survived by his sister, Maxine Stephenson; daughter and son-in-law Ann and Robert White; son and daughter-in-law Donald and Marsha Hammons. Grandchildren are Alisha and Clay Weaver, Leigh Anne and Kyle Leinen, Christopher Hammons and fiancé Krista Lance, and Kim and Greg Longoria. Even in his last days, his adored great-grandchildren made his eyes light up. are Jack, Kate, Ben and Charlie Weaver; Olivia and Luke Leinen; Lauryn, Sophia, and Isabella Longoria. Also, surviving him are his beloved sisters and brothers in law: Faye Williams, Joe and Lufawn Williams, Cecil and Jeannie Williams, and many nieces and nephews. Next to his family, his proudest accomplishment was serving his country during World War II as a US Marine. He served as a First Lieutenant, and was a pilot of the F4U Corsair fighter plane. Following the war, he and Dorothy settled in Houston where he worked in the ice cream business. For many years, he was a co-owner of Sun Valley Ice Cream in the Heights with his brother and sister-in-law, Joe and LuFawn Williams. retiring, he worked for 13 years for Texas Hobby Auto Auction before finally retiring at the age of 87. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the staff at the Hampton at Meadows Place, for the kind, compassionate and loving care that you gave our Pop. He was a strong, dignified, intelligent, kind, and hard-working man who was the personification of integrity. We will miss him every day until we meet again. Iva Ruth Gafford Hammonds was born north of Crowell, Texas on 31, 1923 to Charlie and Iva Tuttle Gafford. She graduated from Crowell High School in 1941 and attended John Tarleton . She married Weldon Hammonds of Thalia on 15, 1946. lived at Thaila until they moved to the Lakeview community, southeast of Floydada in of 1952. In 1960, they moved south of Floydada on the Ralls Highway where she continued to live after Weldon death in of 1991. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Floydada. Obituary: Patricia Ann Cigainero Hammonds, 77, of Texarkana, AR passed away 26, 2016 in a local hospital. Mrs. Hammonds was born 22, 1939 in Texarkana, AR. She was a member of St. Edward's Catholic Church in Texarkana, AR. She was employed for many years at Longhorn Army Ammunition Plant (Thiokol) in Karnack, TX. She later was employed as a nurse at Good Shepherd Medical in Longview, TX. She and Truitt loved to travel and observe and enjoy nature. enjoyed many years of fishing and boating at Caddo Lake and Lake O'The Pines before his death in 2003. Her sharp wit, endless opinions and unsolicited advice, will be greatly missed by family and friends and her beloved fur baby, Pepper. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mannie and Mary Walraven Cigainero; husband, Truitt Hammonds; son, Gregory Pierce; and brother, Harvey Cigainero. Survivors include her sister, Mary Martha Cigainero Kennedy of Texarkana, TX; daughters, Deborah Pierce O'Dell of The Woodlands, TX, Pamela Pierce Coston and Jim Boyle of Dallas, GA and Robin Pierce Maley and Michael Maley of Longview, TX; grandchildren, Brooke Coston Kinder of Atlanta, GA, Haley Coston Apt of Dallas, GA, Katherine O'Dell of The Woodlands, TX, Kelly O'Dell of The Woodlands, TX and Stephanie Paul Silverman of Diana, TX; great grandchildren, Ryder O'Dell of The Woodlands, TX, Dylan Crouch of The Woodlands, TX, Olivia Apt of Dallas, GA, Kennedy Kinder of Atlanta, GA, Truitt Silverman of Diana, TX and Hallie Silverman of Diana, TX. Additional survivors include her many Cigainero and Walraven cousins, nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10a.m. , 29, 2016 at St. Edward's Catholic Church with Rev. Paul Worm officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Catholic under the direction of East -Downtown. A rosary will be recited at 6p.m. , 28, 2016 at East -Downtown with visitation to follow.
