Obituary: Delphine Audrey Rekucki (maiden) Haley (married), from Houston TX, waltzed into Heaven on , 4, 2016 around noon. She was born 14, 1930, in Minneapolis, MN, making her 85 years young. She lived in Minneapolis MN, Washington DC, Pittsburgh PA, Schenectady NY, Salisbury MD, Houston TX, and in the hearts of all those who knew her.

She was married 27, 1952 to her knight in shining armor, William (Bill) Frederick Haley Jr. of Willkes Barre PA, whom she met in Washington DC at a USO dance, while he was in the Army. Delphine and Bill had four treasured children: Jan (husband Manuel Pena), Bill (wife Caryn), Tom (wife Debbie), and Bob (Toy). She was blessed with 10 grandchildren: Jan - Nicolas (wife Haydee), Daniel and Andrew; Bill - Will and Christina; Tom - TJ (wife Miranda) and Shannon (husband Adam Burggraff); Bob - John Russell, Robert Tyler, and Madison. Delphine received a second sprinkling of little angels, 4 great grandhildren: T.J. - Victoria ; Shannon - twins Michael Thomas and Haley Jean; and Christina - Jordan William. Delphine and Bill attended every event and activity of their grandchildren. There were always Easter baskets, Trick or Treat bags and Christmas stockings overflowing.

Delphine was the youngest of 9 children: Katherine, Mary, Gladys, Agnes, Frank, Walter, Alexander (Chet) and Gerald. Her parents, Bartlomeij Rekucki and Mary Magdalena Chmura (maiden), were Polish immigrants who found out after they met that they had lived only four blocks away from each other in their small town in Poland before they came to Minneapolis. She is survived by her brother Chet, her husband, Bill, her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and their children and grandchildren. She attended most of their weddings and sent baby gifts to most of the new Rekuckis. Family was very important to her.

She was a graduate of Edison High School in Minneapolis. While in High school, she was a member of the "Kats" a group of girls that have kept in contact and remained friends all these years. She is survived by 3 of the "Kats".

Delphine and Bill have been married for 63 devoted years. From their very first dance, they Fox Trotted their way through life. Bill was a pilot and they flew to many destinations. cruised and they traveled with family and friends. On their 25th wedding anniversary their children gave them a gift trip to Cancun, Mexico. enjoyed it so much, they bought a condo with plans on retiring there. salsa-ed to Mexico often and added a new group of friends to their dance cards. Up until the last few months, Delphine and Bill kissed each other good night, every night.

Delphine cha-cha-ed her way through various organizations: the Catholic church, neighborhood groups, bridge groups, bowling teams, a ball room dancing group, golf partners, Spanish class, the country club, volunteer organizations, and school and scout groups. She never met a stranger. She made friends in all these organizations and where ever she went. She maintained these friendships throughout the years. She remembered and enjoyed all the friends of her children. She and Bill loved to entertain friends and family, and the last home they designed and lived in had a dance floor for jitterbugging. She cooked up all types of recipes, which her family covets to this day. She is well known for her Annual Christmas letter to family and friends.

Delphine was in a horseback riding accident in 1963. A horse reared up, she fell off, and the horse fell on her. She was in the hospital for 3 months in traction. She broke her leg, shattered a knee and severely injured her back. Neighbors and friends rallied around to take care of the kids, run errands and help her out at home. Her back injuries nagged her over the years but she seldom complained. She developed Alzheimer's in her later years but the disease never took away her long term memory or recognition of her husband and children.

When Bill started his own company, QOP, it was a family business and Delphine finally went back to work as Bill's office manager. It soon became clear who the real boss was. When Delphine found out Bill had spent money buying heavy machinery at the auction, she loudly chewed him out. Unfortunately for him, the office intercom was on and all the employees heard it. QOP was very successful, in part, because Delphine made sure he made wise spending decisions. Their marriage was successful because Delphine catered graciously to Bill's needs and most of his whims, giving them a wild and adventurous life together.

Delphine was an active volunteer. She was a member and President of the HESS women's club. She volunteered at the church coalition Food Bank. She volunteered at Meals on Wheels. She drove patients to their dr. appointments. She was so proud the day she turned in her candy stripped apron for an official volunteer uniform she earned at the hospital. She never turned down a cry for help. She was an active member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church. When her granddaughter, Madison, was diagnosed with Leukemia, she organized and participated in prayer groups, which she attributed to Madison's remission. She led the song groups at Bible studies. On the last days of her life she asked, "LORD guide me", "LORD help me", LORD bless me. There is no doubt she waltzed her way to Heaven.

Delphine would like you all to know how much she loved you, how much she prayed for you, and how you made her life special. The big guy upstairs is getting a very remarkable woman who lived her life to the benefit of others. If this next journey is anything like her life, she is already busy making room for the rest of us.

Obituary: Transitioned from this life on 12, 2017, at age 99. She was born in Belton, Texas, 10, 1917, to Samuel Denton Ware and Charlotte Marshall Ware. Three years later the family moved to north Oak Cliff, her lifetime home. Studying under the concertmaster of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and practicing often 4 hours a day, she became a virtuoso violinist, was selected concertmaster of the Dallas High School All-City Orchestra, and performed frequently around the area. At SMU she majored in violin in the Music School where she met cellist and her beloved husband of 71 years Dr. Arvel Haley. Also her studies in child development and psychology became a lifelong interest. She was a member of Delta Gamma and Mortar Board. graduation she played in the Dallas Symphony and taught violin in the public schools. She had 4 sons, the first 2 during World War II while Arvel was serving long tours in the Pacific. the war and recovery from paralytic polio, she began her career in social engineering: mothering the boys; violin, cello and piano practice master; Cub Scout den mother for 10 years; mentoring 4 tenderfeet to Eagles; PTA president; manager of family camping vacations; and for 15 years head of the Regional Science Fair through the Dallas Medical Society Auxiliary, modeling the importance of scientific thought to the boys. All 4 graduated from SMU and UT Southwestern Medical School and practice medicine in Dallas today. A third career in merchandizing at Market Hall led to a serious interest in artistic silver jewelry making, her organic necklace compositions recognized by the annual State Fair of Texas Linz Award for first place in jewelry design 6 times. When things got quiet at home, she entered still another career, this time as the best receptionist and office manager her physician husband had in 40 years of practice. This gave her the chance to walk around the reception counter and hug all those patients she had “treated” by phone as they called for the doctor for, oh, those many years. Most of all she was a strong, brilliant, humorous, perpetually positive character, a mentor, disciplinarian and friend who brought out the best in those around her. She created a home with a joyous atmosphere, full of fun, great food and life lessons, nurturing 3 generations of the extended family. As recounted in her entertaining autobiography, she had a wise saying for every situation; for example, “Most of the world’s work is done by people who don’t feel well – so keep going!”; (after a disappointing loss or injury) “Don’t depend on sports for your happiness”; “It takes a big person to apologize”; “If you don’t use your mind, you have to use your feet”; “The best way to make a friend is to be one”; (in a moment of ennui) “Life is so daily”; “Practice, practice, practice”; (to a forlorn son) “Don’t worry about the girls now; just be worthwhile, and someday the girls will love you”; “Oh Joy!” She was preceded in death by her dear husband Arvel, sister Mary Blanche Hill and brother Marshall Ware. She is survived by sons Drs. John, Robert, Steven and Charles Haley; her beloved daughters-in-law Margie, Stephanie, Sue and Marcie, who were so attentive in her declining years; her 8 grandchildren Kimberly Haley-Coleman and Greg, Clinton, Charlotte, Carl, Holly, Katie and Charles Haley; and her 6 greatgrandchildren Haley and Maggie Coleman and Travis, Lillian, Clara, Reid, Jack and Audrey Haley. The family wishes to thank friends Lynn Duval and Don Benton and the fellow residents and loving care-givers of C.C. Young Memorial Retirement . A celebration of Charlotte’s life open to friends of the family will be held on 1, 10:00 a.m., in the auditorium in the Point Building on the C. C. Young campus, 4847 West Lawther Drive in Dallas. In lieu of flowers memorial tributes can be made in Charlotte’s name to Kessler Park United Methodist Church at kpumc.org, or to the SMU Meadows School of the Arts Division of Music, PO Box 70356, Dallas 75275-0356, 214-768-4421.
