Obituary: Jane was born as Beryl Jane Bryan in Marcellus, N.Y. on 17, 1929 to William Jennings Bryan and his wife Gladys Frances Mann Bryan. William was a farmer, a life resident in the town of Skaneateles, N.Y., and a member of the Sheppard Settlement Grange. Gladys Frances Mann was an English girl of distinguished lineage and social position (her family tree goes back to William the Conqueror AD 1066, and includes Sir Walter Raleigh and William Pitt, Prime Minister of England). A great friendship was struck with another young English girl who Gladys met in a war workers center in London during WWI, and that bond led her to come to America a few years later to visit her dear friend. It was during that visit to Marcellus in 1920 that she met William, fell in love and married, and became a farmers wife. Jane was the youngest of the three children that the couple would have before Gladys died of hyperthyroidism in 1930, when Jane was only 18 months old. Jane had an older sister Marie and an older brother John. Gladys mother and Janes grandmother Ada Pitt Mann Line, wanted Jane and her sister Marie to move back to England to benefit from a privileged upbringing, but William would have nothing of it. He wanted to keep his family together and close to him, and so Jane stayed in Marcellus and her father got help raising his children from a housekeeper and his sisters until Williams death in 1938. Williams death, his sister Florence Coir took in the 9 year old Jane and her brother John, moved them to Detroit, and raised both kids as her own along with Florence and George Coirs three other children Grace, Donald and Herman. The Coir family provided Jane with stability for the first time in her young life. Jane attended grade school and subsequently McKenzie High School in Detroit where she was a shy but intellectually bright and curious young girl. She was a very good student with a passion for science and medicine. She was also a very gifted athlete and would later share with her own children how she enjoyed and excelled at competitive swimming and track and field in junior and senior high school. graduation from high school, Jane attended Wayne State University where she pursued a Bachelors Degree in Medical Technology. Jane and her sister Marie were the only members of the Bryan and Coir families to attend college and earn a degree. It was during a Freshman English class where Jane met Bob Habermas who would become her life-long partner and soul mate. Jane and Bob dated through their college years and their relationship deepened. Bob gave her his fraternity pin in 1951 and asked her to marry him. both graduated in of 1952, Jane with her degree in Medical Technology and Bob with a Bachelors in Chemistry. Jane immediately started working as a medical Technologist at Grace Hospital in Detroit while Bob started post graduate work in chemistry at Wayne State University. The couple married on 28, 1952 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Detroit Mich. Holy Cross was the Habermas family church where Bob attended as a child. their wedding, Jane took adult catechism classes from Pastor Born who had married them, and was later confirmed and joined the church. about 11 months of marriage in of 1953, Bob received notice that he had been drafted into the army during the Korean War period. Bob was immediately sent to Ft. Knox Kentucky for basic training and then was stationed at Ft. Meade in Maryland. Jane left her job and joined him there. Their first child, Janelle (Jan) Marie was born there in May of 1955. Bob was honorably discharged in of 1955 and the young family moved back to Detroit to begin their new life together. The couple settled in Livonia Michigan and bought their first home. Bob was hired as a research chemist at the Detroit Edison where his father, Edward had worked. The young couple welcomed a new son Paul Edward to the family in of 1958, and another daughter Linda Jane in of 1962. Jane and Bob joined the congregation of St. Pauls Wisconsin Synod Lutheran Church where Jane and Bob became very active members of the church, and their children later would attend grade school there. During the years while she was raising her children, Jane was actively involved in numerous callings. She taught school for most of her married adult life, and served as a role model for many a 12-year old. Jane was also a gifted artist, having inherited the talent from generations of famous artists before her on her mothers side of the family. Jane was incredibly talented at drawing and watercolor painting, and worked for a time doing copper reliefs and sculptures. While she loved the outdoors and enjoyed drawing and painting landscapes, she really excelled at doing portraits of her family and their pets, friends and their kids and grandkids. She had an amazing ability to capture the personality and the spirit of each individual on paper, and everyone who ever received a portrait gift from Jane cherished it. Jane was also a prolific photographer, and would take hundreds of photos on a single trip - all before the advent of digital cameras. She would bring dozens of rolls of film on each vacation, and always end up buying more! In addition to her artistic pursuits, Jane continued to be a voracious reader of the sciences and would gobble up monthly editions of Scientific American, Nature and Science magazines. She found a unique way to combine her love of science with her strong faith in God and His word. She became one of the Founders of the American Creation Society (non-profit) of Michigan, whose mission was to support various scientists continued... |

Obituary: HABERMANN, DALE W. Age 82. an extended illness, Dale took his final ride to heaven, without his Harley, on , 17, 2015, in Oceanside, CA. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Sherrie (Helaine). Dad, Grandpa and Great Grandpa to: Richard and Nancy Habermann / Sara, Susan Block / Katie, Jake and Aiden Ligman / Ashley, Dan, Lily and Ellanore Eggers / Abigail (special friend Wes) and TJ / Aleese (special friend Josh), Thomas Habermann / Stephanie / Spencer, Patricia and David Seese / Melissa, Troy and Natalie Barth / Renee Lenhard, Linda and Joseph Bath / Lisa / Rebecca (special friend Colten) / Amy (special friend Dan). Papa and Great Papa to: Linda and Timothy McDonald / Bridgette (special friend Robby) / Joseph / Caitlin, Myles and Adalyn Grace Thomas / Andrew. Survived by many other nieces, nephews, family and friends. He will be sorely missed by his canine buddy, Sir Harley of Oxford. Dale was born and raised in West Allis, Wisconsin, and graduated from West Allis Central High School in 1951. He was preceded in death by his parents Chester and Anna Mae, three brothers: Ronald, Robert, Bernard and two sisters: Judith and Donna. Dale retired as a Wauwatosa Police officer in 1986 after 30 years of service. He served as President of Wauwatosa Professional Police Association and was a delegate to the State of Wisconsin Professional Police Association. He also enjoyed working at Wisconsin State Fair Park as undercover security during Fair Week. He belonged to the Wauwatosa Masonic Lodge #267 F&AM for 35 years serving in different chair positions. He was President of his Fall of 1980 Scottish Rite class and later became a member of the Shrine Motor Corps. retiring from the Wauwatosa Police Department, he moved to Southern California where he worked for the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills, established Security for the new Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills, was Head of Security for the Hanalia Hotel Group, and finally retired in 2001 from the Lawrence Welk Resort where he was Head of Security and supervised the Transportation Department. Dale served as an Elder and Deacon for the First Presbyterian Church in Oceanside, CA. He was an enthusiastic member of the Morning Mens Bible Study class and always engaged in lively conversation about the scriptures. He would come home and tell Sherrie that the class had made great progress that day - they actually had covered one verse. And of course he always enjoyed the coffee and snacks that were provided. He loved taking long trips on his Harley motorcycle. He was one of the original members of the first HOG (Harley Owners Group) Chapter that was organized as well as a life-time member of HOG. Dale made the usual treks to Daytona and Sturgis (as any good Harley rider should) and especially reveled in participating in the 100th Anniversary Celebration in Milwaukee. Bowling was another great past time of Dales but he could never quite make that 300 that he wanted - 297 was as close as he came. Dale had a passion for old cars and owned a 1941 Chevrolet Business Mans Coupe. He restored it to mint condition even down to the original wood grain design on the dashboard. His hard work was recognized as evidenced by the multiple trophies with which he drove away from car shows. Coming soon to a bookstore near you - Dale authored a book entitled TARNISHED BADGES that incorporated some of his experiences as a police officer but in the setting of the early years of Prohibition. Work will continue on the manuscript to see that it gets published as Dale felt this was one of his greatest accomplishments. He will always be remembered for his sense of humor (????) and cracking himself up. We will lovingly remember that little crooked smile that would light up his face when he thought that he had put one over on us. Join us as we celebrate the life of this wonderful man on , 8, 2015 at Wauwatosa Presbyterian Church, 2366 N. 80th Street, Wauwatosa, WI. Visitation begins at 3:00 p.m. with a memorial service to follow at 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Humane Society of America (humanesociety.org). Dales furry friends always held a special place in his heart. We love you and will miss you very, very much. |

Obituary: Dorothy Richey Haberly -- Born 8, 1921 in Boring, Oregon to Nora Mae Yerkes and Raymond Edwin Richey; died 22, 2011 at her home in Woodland Hills, CA. Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, friend, gardener, legal secretary, office manager, and Lakers fanatic, Dorothy never lost her positive attitude and sharp mind even as cancer stole her strength. Dorothy was very proud of her Oregon Pioneer ancestry. She descended from one of the hardy pioneer families that migrated along the Oregon Trail by foot and oxen-pulled Prairie Schooner covered wagons. This grueling trip of some 2,000 miles began in 1852, with her ancestors finally arriving at the Cascades Locks six months later in 1852, finally settling on homesteads in Pleasant Valley near present day Gresham, OR. Dorothy was raised in Boring, OR, and graduated from Sandy High School in 1939. She married Adolph Albert Jack Haberly on 25, 1946 who had served in the Navy in the South Pacific in World War II. She worked as a secretary for many years honing her typing and shorthand skills, and once was the winner of an Oregon state typing contest, receiving a Royal (manual style) typewriter as a prize that she kept as a memento, long after computers made typewriters obsolete. She and Jack raised three sons together; James, Norman, and Brian. lived in Eugene, OR, San Antonio, TX, Idaho Falls, ID, Great Falls, MT, Moses Lake, WA, and Novato, CA before finally settling down in Woodland Hills, CA. Jack passed away in 1964, Dorothy returned to work as a secretary to Pastor Robert Wells, the long-time pastor of the First Baptist Church in Reseda, CA. She took subsequent positions as a legal secretary for the Los Angeles office of a prominent national law firm, Jones Day, finally becoming office manager of a Chatsworth, CA software company. As a single mother, Dorothy worked hard and put her three sons through college and she continued to help her grandchildren with their college educations. While her sons were younger and still living at home, she loved baking and decorating whimsical cakes for themed birthday parties. She was fond of sharing memories of summer vacations spent at the family farm in Boring, OR, where Dorothy and her three sisters would gather with their respective families and cousins young and old would help stack hay on the farm or pick strawberries to earn some spending money, often spending it on soft serve ice cream at a Gresham burger joint. Having grown up on a farm, Dorothy was a life-long gardener, and often enjoyed having tomatoes, peas, or fruit trees in her yard. She lived and breathed LA Lakers basketball, and often scheduled her days around game times. She loved reading, swimming, her dogs, watching hummingbirds, doing jig-saw puzzles, Sudoku, and her church, but most of all she loved being a mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Jack (1964) and her sister Lucena Richey Smith (1988). She is survived by sons James (Ava), Norman, and Brian (Peggy); and grandchildren Ariel, Justin, Brandon and Kelsey. She leaves behind her beloved sisters, Loreta Richey Moore and Ruth Richey Scott. We would like to extend special thanks to Dorothys devoted in-home caregivers. services are being performed by Bateman Carroll in Gresham at 3 pm on , 30, 2011. In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made to the John Wayne Cancer Institute (http://www.jwci.org) (you may donate online at http://www.jwci.org/how-to-help.aspx?id=80).
