Obituary: HITE, Patricia Diane, 13, 1947 to May 22, 2012 With a loving spirit, Diane molded countless lives through education, generosity, encouragement, and a willing presence and availability to others. She passed away peacefully and ready to go home after suffering a severe stroke from complications of an infection. She is preceded in death by her parents, Nellie Cook Hite and William Hite and step-father, Robert H. Bowles. She is survived by a sister, Delores Matlock (Bobby) of Columbia and a brother, Allen Hite (Martha) of Donelson. She is survived by a nephew, Dr. Robbie Matlock (Mandi), and their children, Molly and Annie. She is also survived by several cousins. She is preceded by her best friend, Regina Parker. She is survived by those she considered her second family: Norman and Lonnell Parker; Kimberly, Ronnie, Kirsten and Reeves Peacher; Lauren and Kyle Castles; and Michelle, Scott, Micah and Eli Bradley. Diane grew up in the Tennessee Orphan’s in Spring Hill, Tennessee, and graduated from Spring Hill High School. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from Middle Tennessee State University. She taught in Metro Nashville Public schools for 34 years at Brick Church Elementary (1969-1971), King’s Lane Elementary (1971-1990) and J. E. Moss Elementary (1990-2003). retirement, she volunteered at A. Z. Kelley Elementary. Especially devoted to the instruction and encouragement of reading, she was twice named teacher of the year. Diane was an active member of the Tusculum Church of Christ. For many years, she taught adult school lessons and led story time for the children. She also directed the Inner City Ministry at Tusculum for more than five years. She enjoyed reading, scrapbooking, swimming, playing cards, and beating others severely at word games. Her family gratefully acknowledges the support of Vanderbilt University Medical and Alive Hospice. We thank her countless friends who taught with her, volunteered with her, swam with her, worshiped with her, and joined hearts with her on her marvelous walk through life. service to be conducted, 2:30 p.m. May 25, 2012 in Woodlawn’s Dignity Hall with Elder P.R.
