Obituary: Marlene Hoyt, long-time resident of Medford, Ore. passed away May 31, 2016 at Burgdorf's Adult Foster home, with her daughter and family members by her side. Marlene was born 22, 1933 in Jewell, Kans. to John and Phoebe Smith. She was their only child and John passed away suddenly when she was six. Not being able to manage a farm and a child on her own, Phoebe moved to California where some of her family lived. eventually moved to Medford where Phoebe remarried, and Marlene graduated from Medford High School in 1950. She then moved to Long Beach and worked for the phone company as an operator. Marlene returned to Medford where she married Charles Hoyt in 1958. had two children, Charla and Donnie. She was a homemaker, and would occasionally work as a bookkeeper for Chuck's flooring business. She bowled on the morning women's league for many years. Marlene attended many sporting events and was a scorekeeper at Donnie's Little League games. She patiently drove Charla to piano lessons, and sat through many a recital and cheer practice. When Donnie moved away to college, she became a hostess at Colony Far East, where she would work for 20 years, making many life-long friends. Marlene is survived by her daughter, Charla (Craig) Combs; daughter-in-law, Colleen Hoyt; grandchildren, Michael (Jessica) Combs, Chris Combs, Megan (Mikyl) Rasmussen, Mark (Elizabeth) Combs, and Kevin Hoyt. She also had six great-grandchildren. Marlene was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Marilyn Thompson; her husband, Chuck; and their son, Donnie. Chuck and Marlene had adopted Gracie from the SOHS, and Gracie was her constant companion when Chuck passed away. Donations may be made in her memory to SOHS, 2910 Table Rock Road, Medford,OR. 97501. A service followed by interment will be held at 1 p.m. 13, 2016, at the Committal Shelter, Eagle Point National , Eagle Point, Ore. |

Wiley and Heather Wiley Stowell, and six great grandchildren.
