Obituary: William Boyce Huss, 88, of Valdese, passed away 20, 2015 at Frye Regional Medical in Hickory following a period of declining health. Mr. Huss was born on 12, 1927 in Catawba to the late William Lester Huss and Callie Williams Huss. He attended Lenoir Rhyne , and was a US Navy Veteran serving on the USS Ajax as a signalman in the South Pacific. He was a member of American Legion Post 234 of Valdese and participated in the Honor Flight for Veterans in Washington, D.C. Boyce retired from Waldensian Bakeries as a sales supervisor. He was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Valdese and served as chairman of the Board of Trustees, managed the Methodist Park for many years, and was a member of the Disciple School Class. He was surrounded by loving church people. His greatest love was his family, friends, God and country. He was a very loved man. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn H. Craig and Myrna H. Hilton; and two brothers, Revis Huss and Ewell Huss. Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Betty Lou Reynolds Huss; two children, Janice Huss Hutchison and husband William and Kimberly Huss McCarter and husband Arthur; grandchildren, Leigh Reynolds Hutchison Hughes and husband Jason, Mitchell Boyce McCarter and wife Lennia; great-grandchildren, Reagan Hughes and William Hughes; one sister, Prue H. Beuhler; and many loving nieces, nephews and friends. Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. 23, 2015 at First United Methodist Church of Valdese, with Rev. Jeff Sweeney officiating. Interment will follow at Burke Memorial Park with military honors by the N.C. National Guard. The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 P.M. at Heritage Service in Valdese, where the body will remain until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the funeral hour. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, PO Box 637 Valdese, NC 28690 or Catawba Regional Hospice, 3975 Robinson Rd. Newton, NC 28658. |

Obituary: Faye Elizabeth Smith Huss, age 82 of 7646 Dallas-Cherryville Highway, died , 17, 2013 at Carolinas Medical in Charlotte from injuries sustained in an automobile accident while driving home from volunteering at the food pantry. Mrs. Huss was born on 15, 1931 in Cherokee , SC, a daughter of the late William Bert and Maggie Smith. She attended St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Crouse. Faye was a former inspector at Blackwelders Textile and then was employed at Somerset Court Facility. She was a strong-willed and independent lady who liked to keep on going. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, William Frank Huss, Sr.; a granddaughter, Contina Poovey Flynn; and sisters, Ailene Foster and Betty Ingle. Survivors include her two sons, Robert Gene Poovey (Kay) of Lincolnton and William Frank Huss, Jr. (Vickie) of Cherryville; daughter, Lori Ann Sam Hersey (Ronnie) of Cherryville; grandson, Robert Poovey II of Lincolnton; two step-grandsons, Ronnie Hersey II of Dallas, and Christopher Hersey of Washington, DC; three great-grandchildren, Zach, Heath, and Damon Flynn; great-step-grandson, Robbie Hersey; and numerous granddogs. A Service of Remembrance will be held on , 21, 2013 at 2:00 PM at St. Pauls Lutheran Church with Pastor Rick Sloop and Rev. Michael Collins officiating. Burial will follow in City Memorial . Obituary: Malcolm Luther Huss, 91, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family and friends on 5, 2017. Malcolm was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, son and brother. He was born on 16, 1925 to Gorman and Mary Mullen Huss in Boger City, NC. He was raised in Charlotte and graduated from Central High School in 1943. Malcolm proudly served his country in the Navy during World War II. He was fond of telling stories of his adventures in the Navy, especially the time he had 2 Christmases when crossing the International Dateline.Malcolm worked as a field engineer for Burroughs Corporation for nearly 40 years. retiring, he was able to enjoy his passion for driving cars by working for Avis, Qualex and various car dealerships. He also enjoyed walking and never met a stranger. Malcolm loved his family and the Lord; he was a faithful member of Eastway Baptist Church where he enthusiastically worked many a barbeque.He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Myrtle; daughter, Mary Alice Huss; son, Mike Huss and his wife, Carol; grandchildren Kelly Henkel, Allison Neel, Karrie Goudelock, Anna Neel, Justin Huss, Kelsey Huss, and 6 great-grandchildren. His parents and a brother, Evans Huss, preceded him in death.On , 10, 2017, the family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at McEwen at Sharon Memorial Park, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte.
