Obituary: SHREVEPORT, LA---Maxine Carpenter Hovis, 90, formerly of Hickory passed away peacefully on 26, 2013 at Heritage Manor Stratmore, Shreveport, La. after a period of declining health. Maxine was born 23, 1922 in Catawba Co. to the late Clarence Edward and Cordie Nina Yount Carpenter. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Warren A. Hovis; brother, David Carpenter; sisters, Doris Wagner and Ethel Tucker. She joined St. Pauls Lutheran Church where she taught school for fifty years. She was active in all church functions and was ready to help when members would call for help or advice. 4, 2009, she became a charter member of Amazing Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church. Surviving are her son, Larry Hovis, and wife, Paula; two grandchildren, Cheryl Hovis Bass and Warren A. Hovis and wife, Karrie; five great-granddaughters, Lindsey, Patricia, Corinn, LeeAnn and Rachael Hovis and one great -grandson, Brandon Bass, one brother, James Carpenter and wife, Betty and one sister, Shirley Fisher and husband, Clyde. Visitation at Hickory , 2, 2013, from 12:45 pm \ 1:45 pm. service will follow at 2:00 pm at Hickory Chapel with Rev. Ryan Ray officiating. Interment will follow in Catawba Memorial Park at 3:00 pm. Memorials can be made to St. Jude Childrens Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to Amazing Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 4681 Grace Chapel Rd., Granite Falls, N. C. 28630.
