Obituary: Charlotte - Walter Hook passed away on 12, 2013 while in the care of Harris Hospice at Presbyterian Hospital. The only son of Walter W. Hook and Catherine Johnson Hook, he was born on 20, 1922 in Charlotte, NC. Predeceased by his cherished wife Jean, he leaves his daughter, Ann Hook Sprinkle and her husband Brian of Matthews; daughter, Cathy Hook Watson and two grandchildren, Ann Watson and Will Watson, all of Charlotte. Walter was a graduate of Central High School in Charlotte, and received a degree in Forestry from N.C. State University after serving 4 years in the Army during WWII with the 89th Infantry Division. Deciding to take a different path from the family business of architecture, he truly enjoyed his work in the woods as a forestry consultant for 35 years. Among friends he was known for his knowledge of the natural world, and for his ability to offer that elusive crossword puzzle answer. The family thanks Summit Place of SouthPark for many years of kindness and care. Burial will be private for the family at Elmwood . A memorial service will be held , 16th at 1:00 p.m. at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 3115 Providence Road. The family will receive friends in the church parlor following the service. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to The Nature Conservancy or the charity of your choice. |

Obituary: Martin L. Hook passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on 10, 2011. He was born on 20, 1920 in Chesterfield, Indiana, to the late Jesse M. and Eunice Hook. Martin served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard during WW II on the USS LST-22. He was a member of the VFW, the American Legion and was an active Rotarian. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Mary Elizabeth Andrews Hook. He is survived by his children; Cynthia Ann Redmond (Robert) of Seminary, MS., Richard Lee Hook (Julie) of Alexandria, LA, Frank Daniel Hook (Roberta) of Milford, KS, and Jane Stafford of Raleigh; 12 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. A celebration of his life will be held , 15, 2011 at 2:00pm at Brown-Wynne , 1701 E. Millbrook Rd., Raleigh, NC. His family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. Obituary: Jean Gaskins Hook, 77, of New Bern went home to be with the Lord on , 6, 2016. She worked for Carolina Power & Light (CP&L) for 42 years and at Belk Department Store for 10 years. She loved the Lord and was a faithful member of Gospel Outreach Church. Graveside service will be 3 p.m. , 9, 2016 with Pastor Johnny Clark officiating at the Gaskins Family on Sand Hill Road. The family will receive friends just prior to the service at Cotten from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. Jean was preceded in death by her husband, James P. Hook, her son, Rusty Hook, her parents, Dalton and Annabelle Gaskins, and her brother, Guy Gaskins. She is survived by two grandsons, Jay Hook and Craig Hook (Angela), both of Olympia; great grandchildren, Alyssa, Abigail, Kaylee and Destiny; brother, Darrell Gaskins (Sharon); sister, Carolyn Clark (Johnny); sister-in-law, Suzanne White (Jim); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family whom she loved dearly. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the CCHD Foundation, P.O.
