Obituary: Dorothy Dot Eckard Hollar, 88, 209 Leonard Avenue, died 23, 2014, at Abernethy Laurels in Newton. Born on 16, 1926 in Catawba , she was the daughter of Lawrence Vernon and Claudia Bollinger Eckard. She was a lifelong and active member of Mount Zion Lutheran Church in Conover. She held numerous leadership roles in the Women of the Church and in various committees of the church. She was in the church choir her entire adult life until the time she moved to Abernethy Laurels in 2013. She worked for Dr. Sam Isenhours dental practice in Newton and for 23 years as the administrative secretary at Sipes Orchard in Conover. In retirement, she enjoyed many years of volunteer service at Catawba Valley Medical along with much enjoyment from being a member of the hospital fitness center. In her last fourteen months she enjoyed living at Abernethy Laurels, riding on the Abernethy float in the Old Soldiers Reunion Parade this year and never missing Chapel, the choir, Bible Study and other various activities and socials at Abernethy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Floyd C. Hollar; one brother, Osborne R. Eckard; and two sisters, Edith E. Eckard and Willadean E. Reynolds. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Mark and the Rev. Angela Hollar of Gastonia; granddaughter and husband, Leah and Britt Milner of Raleigh; two sisters, Ruth Lail of Newton and Nellie Abernethy and husband Jack of Conover. The funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm on , 27, 2014 at Mount Zion Lutheran Church in Conover. The Reverend Angela Hollar, the Reverend Scott Bollinger and Mrs. Jackie Wesson will officiate. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery and the family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall immediately following the burial. Pallbearers will be Barry Hollar, Archie Eckard, Al Jeffrey Lail, Derek Abernethy, Hugh Cole and Dr. Douglas Michael. Memorials may be made to Mount Zion Lutheran Church, 4420 Road, Conover, NC 28613 or Ebenezer United Methodist Church, 120 Belmont Mount Holly Road, Belmont, NC 28012. |

Obituary: Colene Hatley Hollar, 71, of Lenoir, passed away , 3, 2016 at Watauga Medical surrounded by her family. Colene was born to the late Sidney and Mildred Hatley on 23, 1944 in Caldwell . She was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend who will be greatly missed by all. Along with her parents, Colene is preceded in death by her daughter Joan Crain. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband; Leon Hollar of the home, son; Randy Hollar (wife Debra) of Collettsville, daughter; Darlene Hollar (Kenneth) of Lenoir, brother; Lloyd Hatley (wife Vickie) of Hudson, sisters; Martha Lewis, Lucy Younce (husband Jim), Lois Robinson (husband Bill) all of Hudson, grandchildren; Amanda Anderson, Randy Crain, Chrissy Poarch, Devin Hollar, and Chasity Doebler, great-greatgrandchildren; Tiffany Anderson, Taylor Anderson, Keegan Doebler, Zacharye Doebler, Mackayden Ceraphin, Shayla Crain, Courtney Poarch, Akira Poarch, and Ciara Crain. services for Colene will be held , 6, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Pendrys Lenoir .
