Obituary: Helen Gantt Helms, 92, of Raleigh, died 22, 2014 at home. Mrs. Helms was born 6, 1922 in Alexander , NC to the late Rom Alexander Gantt and Letha Oliver Gantt. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years. She was the educational secretary at First Baptist Church in Raleigh for 7 years. Previously she was the pastors secretary at Huffman Baptist in Birmingham, AL and she was the church secretary at Oakland Baptist in Rock Hill, SC. She was an active member of New Hope Baptist Church in Raleigh for 48 years and was a School teacher for the majority of those years. She was a loving mom, grandmother, G.G., a second mom to many, a trusted friend, mentor, prayer warrior, wise woman, and a true lady. She dedicated her heart and life to serving God. Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Clarence P. Helms, Jr.. She is survived by her three children and their families: daughter Sandy McDonald and husband, Jim of Mobile, AL and their two children, a daughter Jennifer Harrington and husband Norman and their son John Henry Harrington of Mobile, AL and a son, Andrew McDonald and wife Janea and their children, Emily and Jack McDonald, all of Long Beach, MS. A son, Col. USA (Ret.) Richard O. Helms and wife, Joyce of Anniston, AL and their daughter, Allison Helms of Raleigh, NC. A daughter Judy Wilkinson and husband Gary of Gladstone, VA and their two children, daughter Melissa DeHaven and husband Michael and their daughter Lily DeHaven of King, NC and their daughter, Lauren Kiser and husband Jason and their son Ross Kiser of Raleigh, NC In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Roy Lee Lackey. A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm on , 26, 2014 at New Hope Baptist Church in Raleigh. Rev. Brian Lockany and Dr. Jack Coffey will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be held at 2:00 pm , 27, 2014 at Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte, NC. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Friendship School Class. Donations can be given to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Department 142, Memphis, TN 38148 in her memory. |

Obituary: Heath R. Helms, age 90, of Indian Trail, passed away peacefully on 18, 2015. He was born in Monroe, N.C., to the late E. L and Venie Helms, Sr. on 11, 1924. Heath was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Willie Mae Crooke Helms, son, Donald Heath Helms, and nine siblings. He is survived by his wife, Rheba Haywood Helms; daughter, Nancy Helms Bartles and husband Carl; Diane Sprinkle Helms, wife of the late Don Helms; son, David L. Helms and wife Joy; daughter, Linda Helms Smith and husband Tim; son, Douglas O. Helms and wife Cindy; seventeen grandchildren, Shannon, Chad, Mandy, Jennifer, Melissa, Brandon, Donese, Drew, Brett, Josh, Katie, Jacob, Carter, Jacob, Kaitlyn, Justin, and Samantha; and nine great grandchildren. Heath was a graduate of Unionville High School. He served in the US Army during World War II and was awarded the Silver Star and two Bronze Stars. He was a master carpenter and continued to create and innovate well into retirement. He served as a deacon of Bentons Crossroads Baptist Church, with a deep love and loyalty for his church home. Heath was a champion of the underdog, servant of those in need, and proponent of peace in the world. The family will receive visitors from 6:00-8:00 pm on , 20 at McEwen in Monroe. A service to celebrate Heaths life will be held at 2:00 pm on , 21 at Benton Crossroads Baptist Church. Burial to follow at Bentons Crossroads . Obituary: Hazel R. Helms, age 91 went home to be with her Lord on , 11, 2016. She was a member of Pineville United Methodist Church and had taught a lady's School class for 18 years. Mrs. Helms is preceded in death by her son, David Helms; two sisters, Laurie Sharpe and Margaret Ann McCuestin. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 72 years, Robert A. Helms who referred to Hazel as " the love of his life"; sons, Jerry S. Helms (Sylvia) and Mike Helms (Lisa); 6 grandchildren; and niece, Kay Roberts (Chuck). The family will receive friends on , 14, at McEwen Service Charlotte Chapel, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte NC 28212, from 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with interment in Sharon Memorial Park immediately following. Obituary: Weddington - Gerald Clyde Helms, 88, formerly a resident of Weddington for 45 years died 13, 2014 at the Carriage in Charlotte. He was born in Mecklenburg , the son of the late Clyde J. and Ida Wilson Helms. He attended local schools, served in the Navy during WWII and was retired from the Air National Guard and Bell South. He was an avid genealogist liked to go antiquing and loved to read. He was always concerned about his children and his grandchildrens wellbeing. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Deese Helms and his four children, Jerry Helms of Raleigh, NC., Jim and his wife Evelyn of Lincolnton, NC., Judy and her husband Kevin Jenkins of Mt. Pleasant, SC., and Helms of Wingate, NC. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and 12 Great Grandchildren. Gerald was predeceased by three brothers and survived by two, Gene Helms and John Helms.
