Obituary: under the direction of Sechrest Service, High Point, NC. Mr. Thurman Grayson Haynes, age 97, of Jamestown, died , May 29th, at the residence of his son, following a brief illness. A native of Davidson , Mr. Haynes was born 12th, 1917, a son of the late Herman and May Kennedy Haynes. He had been a resident of this area all his life and was a member of Spring Hill United Methodist Church where he held many positions in the church, including membership in the Fellowship School Class. On 6th, 1937 he married the former Doris Moore who died May 1st, 2008. He was employed by Watts Bakery (now Flowers Bakery) in Jamestown for ten years and retired in 1981 from Jamestown Mills, where he worked for thirty one years. A school, Meredith Leigh Haynes - Bennie Lee Inman Education , was built on his property in 2009 and was named (in part) for his granddaughter, Meredith. Mr. Haynes volunteered daily at the school until his health failed in 2014. During his four years at Haynes-Inman Mr. Haynes was voted Volunteer of the year for Guilford Schools, State Senior Volunteer and National Senior Volunteer for 2014, sponsored by Instead. Mr. Haynes, called Grandpa by the children at Haynes-Inman, loved the staff and children and his association with Haynes-Inman. His devotion to special needs students was a labor of love and defined his life. In addition to his wife and parents, Thurman was also preceded in death by his granddaughter, Meredith Leigh Haynes, three sisters, Alice Swaim, Ruth Byerly and Grace Rankin; five brothers, infants Ocran and Ralph and Colon, Clark and George Haynes. Mr. Haynes is survived by two sons, Norris Haynes and his wife Susan of Greensboro and Gary Haynes and his wife Sharon of High Point services, to celebrate Thurmans life, will be held at 3:00 p.m. at Spring Hill United Methodist Church with the Reverend Donna Friddle and the Reverend Dr. Donald W. Haynes officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Sechrest Service. Students, faculty and staff of Haynes-Inman Education are invited to sit as a group at the funeral service on and are asked to be at the church by 2:30 pm. The family would like to expresses their love to everyone at Haynes-Inman and special thanks to Vickie Simmons for their care and concern for Mr. Haynes. Obituary: RUTH NELSON HAYNES Ruth Nelson Haynes, 92, of Whitnel, went home to be with the Lord on 27, 2010 after a period of declining health. She was born May 23, 1917 in Caldwell to the late Ed and Ella Nelson of Whitnel. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grand-daughter, Dana Haynes, a grand-son, Trey Smith, a son-in-law, Billy Parson, three brothers; James Nelson, Ed Nelson and John Nelson and three sisters; Betina Johnson, Pauline Holloway and Nellie Nelson. Ruth was united in marriage to Willie Jay Haynes of Marion on 8, 1940. Ruth and Willie would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this coming . Ruth was a devoted homemaker, a wise and loving mother and wife, who will best be remembered for her quick witted humor and light hearted laugh. Left behind to treasure her memory is her beloved husband, Willie, four daughters; Loretta Ollis and husband Larry of Hudson, Margaret Parson of Morganton, Willamena Summerow and husband Larry of Lenoir, Sherry Smith and husband Bill of Lenoir, two sons; Howard Haynes and wife Diane of Lenoir, and Cecil Haynes and wife Olivia of Lenoir; five sisters; Jean Hamby of Lenoir, Maude Holsclaw of Lenoir, Kathleen Sanders of Lenoir, Mary Wheeler of Lenoir, and Helen Melton of Mississippi; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild, and many other dear relatives and friends, as well as church members of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Lenoir, where she was a member. Ruths family will be receiving friends and family at Pendrys in Lenoir, NC on 28, 2010 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. The funeral will be held on , 29, 2010 at 1:00pm at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with the Reverend Buddy Smith and Pastor Steven Walsh officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
