Obituary: Joseph Newell Hartis JN passed away on 11, 2015. JN was born May 15, 1928 in Monroe, NC. He was known as he Potpourri man having sold it at Webb Road flea market for many years. He was employed by Fruehauf Trailer Co. for 43 years. He loved working in his garden and playing with his great-grandchildren. J.N. is survived by his wife Jewell McManus Hartis, daughter Carol Winchester; granddaughter Christie Christian; great grandchildren, Vivian, Olivia, and Seth Christian; sisters Elizabeth Horne, Ercel Horton, Barbara Whitley,and Nadine Deese. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Roger; brothers, Theron and Herman; sisters, Thelma Medlin, Edna Mae Boatright, Fannie Hartis, and Lucille Williams. A visitation will be held from 6-8pm , 14 at McEwen Service-Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews Mint Hill Rd. services will be held 1:00p.m. , 15, at Mint Hill Baptist Church where he was a long time member. Interment will be in Sunset Memory Gardens in Mint Hill. |

Whitley and predeceased by her beloved sister, Marguerite Patterson Pleasants. She is survived by her son, Robert “Bob” Hartis of Kitty Hawk and loved companion, Cindy Boyette of Saratoga; daughter, Brenda Hartis Herndon (Henry) of Pikeville; grandson, Lee Herndon (Lisa) of Wilson; granddaughter, Trina Burwell (Eddie) of Raleigh; granddaughter, Susan Corbett (Jeff) of Burlington; grandson, Jason Herndon (Molly) of Raleigh; eight great grandchildren; two loving grand dogs; beloved nephew, Bill Patterson and family of Chicago, IL; niece, Rita Reghanti and family of Louisburg; loved companion and caregiver Danny Tomlinson; and much loved and appreciated caregiver Jackie Rogers. Obituary: Charlie Lee Hartis, 76, of Charlotte died , May 2, 2011 at Presbyterian Hospital, Main. A native of Charlotte, Mr. Hartis was born to the late Zeb Alexander Hartis and Edna Lee Hartis on May 8, 1934. He was a US Navy veteran serving from 7, 1953 to 7, 1957. Mr. Hartis retired as a police officer with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department after 21 years of service. He was actively employed as vice-president of Landmark Security, Inc. Mr. Hartis is survived by his wife, Janice Hartis of the home, children; John Michael Hartis and wife Debra of Kannapolis, Angela Hartis Hodge and husband Jeff of Matthews, Patrick Alexander Hartis and wife Kelly of Raleigh, step-daughters; Lynn and Lisa Thompson, brothers; Cliff, Roy and Tom Hartis, grandchildren; Sean, Ashley, Bethany, Taylor and Grady. The funeral service will be held 2:00pm, , May 5 in McEwen Derita Chapel with Pastor Earl Bradshaw officiating. Interment will follow in Gethsemane Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on at the funeral home.
