Obituary: Mattie Thomas Hargett, 104, died May 19, 2014 at the home of her daughter and son in-law. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Mattie was an avid gardener and quilter. She enjoyed being in the service of others. She is preceded in death by her husband, Abner Jefferson Hargett, her parents, James Thomas and Ellen Waters, a daughter, Mary Lou Hamilton, and her brothers and sisters, Horace Thomas, Jessie Thomas, Guy Thomas, Katy Robinson, Rosa Heath, Irma Stevenson, and Agnes Bray. She is survived by her sons, Harold J. Hargett and wife Patricia, Larry E. Hargett and wife Betty, her daughters, Dorothy E. Mackneer, Mattie Faye Wiley and husband Roger, one brother, Heber J. Pete Thomas, two sisters, Tibby Brown and Eloise Richerdson. She is also survived by 24 grandchildren, 93 great grand-children and 75 great-great grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 6:30 \ 8:30 pm , May 23, 2014 at Cotten . Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 am , May 24, 2014 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with Bishop Brentley Norman officiating. Burial will follow at Greenleaf Memorial Park. Obituary: Monroe, NC-Lorene Mullis Hargett, 94, of Stanfield, NC, formerly of Charlotte, NC, left for her Heavenly afternoon, 12, 2014 at Brookdale Place Clare Bridge. Born in Mecklenburg on 1, 1919, she was a daughter of the late Raymond Joseph Mullis and Lillie Mae Connell Mullis. She was a member of Hickory Grove United Methodist Church where she participated in the hand bell choir and the Golden Years Club. Lorene was a loving daughter and a loving mother, taking great pride in her children and grandchildren. She was a seamstress and avid gardener, receiving great joy in sharing cuttings of her flowers with friends and neighbors. Preceding her in death were her husband, James Ernest Hargett; a sister, Mabel M. Matthews; two brothers, B. Harold Mullis and Ralph H. Mullis. Survivors include a daughter Linda Cormack (Bill) of Stanfield, NC; a son, Bill Hargett (Zan) of Monroe, NC; 3 grandchildren, Erin Hargett of Boone, NC; Austin Hargett (Sarah) of Monroe, NC; Chris Cormack (Mary) of Winston Salem, NC and 2 great grandchildren, Angela and Emily Cormack. The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to the staff at Brookdale Place Clare Bridge and Brookdale Place Wilora Lake for the loving care and compassion shown to Lorene. services are planned for 3:00 pm , 16, 2014 at McEwen Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Mint Hill, NC with Rev. Steve Gandy officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 \ 3:00 pm at the funeral home prior to the service. Burial will take place in Sharon Memorial Park at the corner of Monroe Road and N. Sharon Amity Road, Charlotte, NC. She was born 2, 1922 in Asheville, NC and was the sister of the late Louise S. Miller, Gloria S. Craig, Darrell B. Smith all of Asheville, NC, Larry and P. J. Smith, and Franklin Smith, deceased of Wheatland, Wyoming (deceased) and wife of Johnnie Hargett for 60 years who passed away in 2006. She was a member of Durham Memorial Baptist Church for 35 years. She is survived by children, Julie Bishko and husband, Tom of Mt. Holly, NC, Jeanette H. Long of Charlotte, and son, Johnny and wife, Terri of Gastonia, NC, grandchildren, Jonathan and Mary Hargett of Rocky Mount, NC, Jennifer Hargett of Leland, NC, and one great grandchild, Jonathan Russell Hargett and many nieces and nephews. She graduated from Biltmore High School in 1939, was an honorary member of the National Beta Club, attended Biltmore Junior in Asheville, and a former School Teacher at Durham Memorial Baptist Church. services will be at 11:00AM , 2nd at Durham Memorial Baptist Church, Dr. Gerald Bearden and Reverend Gene Boatwright officiating.
