Obituary: Richard C. (Rick) Hammar of Lee’s Summit, MO passed away at his home on , 12 after a sudden heart attack. Rick was born on 12, 1962 to Phil and Sharon (Kelley) Hammar in Kansas City, MO. He attended schools in Independence, MO, Mattoon and Crystal Lake, IL and graduated from Northern Iowa University in Cedar Falls, IA with a degree in Music Education. He taught Instrumental Music in Nebraska and Illinois for a few years. He was presently employed by Opinions, Ltd. of Ohio and worked from his home as a Marketing Operations Manager. Ricks interests included many kinds of music, especially the New Age music of Mannheim Steamroller, but most of all Drum Corps International. He followed the scoring of summer competitions and attended finals many times. He used his technical computer skills in his job and also did computer repair work. Rick is survived by his parents, Phil and Sharon Hammar of Kearney, NE; 1 sister, Kelly and her spouse Kirk Stulen of Houston, Texas, nephew Kyle and niece Kaitlyn; 1 uncle, Larry Kelley, 1 aunt, Edith Gatzmeyer and her spouse Jean; and many cousins. He was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents: Carl and Rachel Hammar and Paul and Mary Kelley. Visitation will be , 16, 2017 from 11 am until service time at 12 pm at Floral Hills . Obituary: Rachel Waunita (Phillips) Hammar, 91, passed away quietly at her home on 18, 2010, surrounded by her family. Rachel was born the fourth youngest of 17 children to John Scott Phillips and Georgia Lavone Hill on 13, 1918, in Stanberry, Missouri. Shortly thereafter she moved with her family to a farming community near Waverly, Kansas. As a young woman, she accepted employment in the Kansas City area where she met Carl Hammar. were married on 12, 1940, and have lived together in the Kansas City area for most of their married life of nearly 70 years. Rachel was a long-standing member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post Memorial Unit #598 in which she served many years in various offices and was a familiar presence at their numerous volunteer activities. She was a member of the Raytown Chapter of T.O.P.S., Hickman Mills Senior Citizens Group, and Terrace Lake United Methodist Church. Rachel and Carl loved traveling together, bowling, and playing pinochle, bingo and dominoes with their family and friends. Besides her husband, she is survived by one sister, Georgia Beeson of Belton, Missouri; one brother, James Phillips (Juanita) of Waverly, Kansas; one son, Phillip Hammar (Sharon) of Kearney Nebraska; one daughter, Edith Gatzmeyer (Jean) of Bowling Green, Missouri; four grandchildren and six great- grandchildren. services will be held , 21, at 1:00 p.m. at Mount Moriah & Freeman , 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City with burial at Mount Moriah . Obituary: Carl J. Hammar, 96, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away 16, 2012 at Kansas City Hospice House. Carl was the eldest child of Melker and Minnie Hammar on 18, 1915 in Haddam, Kansas. As a young man, he was employed as a mechanic for Armour and and after serving his country in the Army during World War II, he returned to driving for Armour as a truck driver for the rest of his career. He met the love of his life, Rachel Phillips, in Kansas City and they were married on 12, 1940. The couple lived in the Kansas City area for most of their married life of nearly 70 years. Carl was a member of American Legion Post# 598 where he tended the lawn for many years and served in many offices. He is survived by one son Phillip Hammar (Sharon) of Kearney, Nebraska; one daughter Edith Gatzmeyer (Jean) of Bowling Green, Missouri; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
