She was the daughter of Charles Pender Hawes and Catherine McGrath Hawes of Marquette, Michigan and the devoted sister of Catherine Marie Hawes also of Marquette, Michigan -- all of whom predeceased her. Born 2, 1923 in Ishpeming, Michigan, Sarah received her Bachelor of Science degree from the Northern Michigan of Education in Marquette, and her Master of Science Degree from Cornell University in New York. She was a Professor of Economics at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst from 1952 until her retirement in 1983. She was a sixty-year resident of Amherst. Sarah leaves many cousins around the United States and her friends Andrea and John Keins, of Amherst, and Faith White of Sunderland, Massachusetts. Obituary: Rita G. (Lemaire) Hawes, age 95, of New Bedford, passed away , 6, 2016 in the Jewish Convalescent in New Bedford. Rita would have turned 96 on Valentines Day. She was the wife of the late David W. Hawes and Roland Lemaire.

Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Joseph and Rose (Miller) Thibault, she attended St,. Anthonys School and was a lifelong resident of the city.

Rita and her Mom, Rose, opened the very well-known Blue Bird Card and Gift Shop in New Bedford for 20 years. She was also a very popular Avon Lady. She along with her late husband David founded the Blue Birds of Happiness Senior Group in the Greater New Bedford area. Mrs. Hawes loved socializing and being out with friends and family. She was fun and vivacious. She also loved going out to eat and dancing. Rita was famous for giving out pins with blue birds that said Make the World A Better Place. Over the years she must have given out over a thousand pins.

Mrs. Hawes favorite song was This Moment in Time because that is exactly the way she lived her life.

She is survived by her son Paul R. Lemaire and his wife Tammy of New Bedford; a grandson Christopher Lemaire; nieces and nephews Pauline Jodoin, Lorraine Thibault, Douglas Cabral and his wife Lisa, the late Sandra Cabral and her husband Bernardo. She was also the sister of the late Firmin Jerry Thibault and sister in-law of the late Laurette Thibault.

Her funeral will be held on , 10, 2016 at 9AM from the ROCK FUNERAL HOME 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford followed by her funeral mass at 10AM in St. Joseph-St. Therese, Acushnet Ave., New Bedford. Obituary: Attorney Richard K. Hawes, Jr. Twonk, age 94, of Westport Harbor died , 29, 2011. He was the husband of Anne (Rogers) Hawes to whom he has been married for the past 68 years.

Born in Fall River, a son of the late Attorney Richard K. Hawes Sr. and Genevieve (Chase) Hawes, he spent his youth in Fall River moving to Westport Harbor at the age of ten.

A distinguished area Attorney, he began practicing law in association with his father in 1947 in the Fall River National Bank Building, retiring in 1986.

He attended the Westminster and Pomfret Schools in Connecticut was a graduate of Yale University, Class of 1939 and the University of Virginia Law School, class of 1946.

He was a past president, secretary and treasurer of the Acoaxet Club where he had been a member since 1926 at the age of 10. An enthusiastic Yachtsman, he skippered his Concordia Sloop, SALTWIND throughout the Buzzards Bay and Maine waters for many years. He was a member of the Cruising Club of America serving as Post Captain of the Buzzards Bay station for several years, and the New Bedford Yacht Club.

A longtime member of First Congregational Church while living in Fall River, he later joined the United Congregational Church in Little Compton. Atty. Hawes was involved in numerous civic activities including serving on the Westport Town Council and Finance Committee.

Atty. Hawes was a member of the Board of Directors for the former Fall River National Bank and Bank of New England N.A. South, and an incorporator and trustee for the former Fall River 5 cent Savings Bank now Bank Five.

A United States Navy Veteran having served during World War II, he was a deck officer and navigator on a destroyer in the Atlantic and Pacific. a kamikaze hit his Destroyer killing Captain, 8 officers and 33 enlisted men, he became senior officer assuming command. He managed to complete his assignments and return his ship to safety for which he was awarded the Silver Star.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons; Richard K. Dickie Hawes III, and Robert Rogers Hawes and his wife Barbara all of Westport, one daughter Anne H. Gray and her husband Robert of York, Maine, two grandchildren, Heather H. Dwyer and her husband David of NY, NY, and Jillian C. Hawes of Boston, one great granddaughter Isabelle K. Dwyer of NY, NY, and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Simeon Hawes.

He had a profound love for Westport Harbor, the River, the community and the cruising waters of Brooklin, Maine. He enjoyed nothing more than sailing in and around Westport Harbor with his children and grandchildren, and observing them from his boathouse deck.

His Service of Thanksgiving and Tribute will be held , 12, 2011 at 11:00AM in the United Congregational Church the Commons, Little Compton. Obituary: O. Kingsley Hawes II, King, age 77, of Little Compton, Rhode Island died 1, 2010 comfortably at his home. He was the husband of the late Jean Crawford Hawes.

Born in Fall River, he was a son of the late Dr. Cornelius H. Hawes, former Chief of Surgery at the former Truesdale Hospital and Abby (Denison) Hawes, he spent his youth in Westport Harbor, lived in Somerset Village for several years, moving to Little Compton over 20 years ago.

He was a graduate of St. Pauls School in Concord, New Hampshire and Kenyon in Gambier, Ohio. A Corporal in the United States Marine Corps, he served during the Korean War and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Marine Corps League, and the Veteran Marine Corps Association and a life member of the 2nd Marine Division.

Mr. Hawes was the District Manager for Aero Mayflower Household Carriers in Detroit, Michigan and worked in sales and national accounts marketing.

An affiliate member of The Honourable of Freemen of the City of London and North America since 2004, in 2005 the Freedom of London was bestowed upon him in the Chamberlains Court in the citys Guildhall in London. This is one of the oldest societies in the United Kingdom, originating in 12th century A.D. whose memberships include the entire Royal Family, Margaret Thatcher and Churchill. He now has the honor of being a Citizen of London!

A lifetime member of the of the V.F.W Post 14000 Kansas City, MO, he was a member and served on the Board of Governors of the Acoaxet Club and a great nephew of one of the founders Charles Tuell-Hawes. He was a member of the National Maritime Historical Society, the Elephant Rock Beach Club, and the Fall River and Little Compton Historical Societies. He was on the Board of Incorporators for the Adams House and was a long time advocate for AA working with others towards recovery.

Mr. Hawes was an avid sportsman, loved foreign travel, music of all kinds and especially loved golf.

Surviving: two daughters: Stacey D. Goes and her husband Michael of Westport, Elaine Trzasko and her husband David of Royal Oak, MI, one son: George E. Hawes and his wife Annmarie, step-daughters: Sylvia Billig and Ann Bradfield, sister: Ann Hogg of Westport, Grandfather of Claire, Lydia, Jonathan and Dylan. He was brother of the late Neil H. Hawes Jr.

His will be held , 8, 2010 at 12:00 noon in the Church of the Holy Spirit 160 Rock St. Fall River. Burial is private.
