Obituary: Mrs. Thelma Jean Hughes was born on 1, 1946, to the union of the late Mr. Earl J. Lowe, Sr. and Mrs. Thelma W. Lowe. She was baptized at an early age at Mount Zion Lutheran Church under Pastor Victor E. Moritz. She remained faithful until her passing. Thelma was a faithful member of the Mount Zion Lutheran Choir, the Lutheran Womens Missionary League and Altar Guild. She was the correspondence secretary to the pastor, youth group leader, school teacher, Acolyte Coordinator, and mid-week bible study coordinator. Thelma was a graduate of Booker T. Washington Senior High School. She received her secretarial training from The Adult Education . Thelma was employed by the City of New Orleans for 27 years, the majority of which was with the New Orleans Police Department where she received numerous commendations. She was well revered and will be sadly missed by the members of the Research & Planning Division and all those she touched at the Police Department. Thelma was a truly special child of God. She had a special gift for reaching out to those in need, being there to lend an ear and offer a hand. She was an example for us all. Her legacy of caring and reaching out was one that we should all implement in our daily lives. Thelmas suffering was but a small part of the fruitful life she led. She rejoiced in the Lord and encouraged others to do the same. Today our family celebrates her life in the Lord and gives thanks to God for allowing her to pass our way and touch our lives. Left to celebrate her life and faith in God is Thelmas husband, Mr. Robert Hughes; daughter, Monique Hughes; mother, Mrs. Thelma Lowe; two brothers,
Mr. Earl J. Lowe Jr. and Carl Lowe; two sisters, Mrs. Ethel Johnson and Ms. Gaynell Wilson; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, two great nieces, and other relatives and friends.

Robert Royce Hughes, born October 10, 1940 entered Heaven's gates on July 28, 2015 in Kilbourne, Louisiana. Robert was 74. Obituary: ROBERT ROYCE HUGHES, 74 KILBOURNE, LOUISIANA Cox Oak Grove, Louisiana An often used quote from Mid-19th century author and philosopher Henry David Thoreau in his book Walden first published as Walden; or, Life in the Woods says The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation. What is called resignation is confirmed desperation. This bleak outlook of the author on his day and time may only reflect a small portion of lives lived or it may reflect the majority of lives lived. We will most likely never know for sure, however, we can see proof in one life, that even a life born of resignation and lived in desperation may yet result in a glorious exultation, thus causing all who will look and see, to have hope. Robert Royce Hughes, affectionately know as R.B. or Big Daddy was born on 10, 1940. He went home on 28, 2015. At the age of 16 Big Daddys life of quiet desperation was picking cotton on a hardscrabble farm in the backwaters of West Carroll Parish. He quickly grew tired of this desperate life and at the age of 16 he set his goal to join the Army. Somehow his age was overlooked. He became a soldier. A few years later this child of the farm and woods would find himself farther from the cotton field than he could have ever imagined. He was stationed in Europe in the country of Germany. He would never return to the cotton field. In Germany he found himself a wife. He would have two sons. The family would eventually come to the United States together. His life was moving forward, but one day the quiet desperation would settle over him again. He came home to find that his wife had left him alone, and returned to Germany, taking his sons from him forever. Eventually he moved on. Over the course of most of his early life he worked the oil patch and drilling rigs of Texas, Louisiana, wherever there was work. It took its toll. At the age of 39 he had a triple heart bypass. Thirteen years later he had another bypass. As he often said, I have been living on borrowed time for a long time. He left the oil field for a while and became a plumber, found another wife, and had another child, a daughter. But quiet desperation returned and once again he was alone. Somewhere on this desperate journey he became tired and he decided, like a prodigal son, to come home. During this last chapter of his life, he began to change. He became a Christian and before his death he had become a close follower of Jesus, the Christ, the son of the Living God. He played his guitar with his friends and sang with a voice so mellow and strong that it often brought tears to the eyes of listeners. He strung Christmas lights each year at his home. It was an eclectic display called Big Daddys Lights, a display that was only beautiful when it shined its light in the darkness. He told jokes to any who would listen, spreading the good medicine of laughter that heals, everywhere he went. One of his sons searched for him and found him, bringing a new joy to his life. In the end, He languished for 32 days in a hospital, surrounded by family and friends. He battled hard against the effects of a paralyzing spinal stroke, pneumonia, staph infection, and the burdensome indignity of paralysis. On his last day, 28, 2015, fighting a losing battle with pneumonia once again, he made the decision, to put himself in Gods hands only. He was tired. He wanted to go home. He wanted to die with dignity and he did. His example of faith and trust in the Father was absolutely complete. He went to sleep. Four short hours later without ever waking again in this world, he made his way into the arms of Jesus and the Father. The Father must have been so proud of the way this son of His faced death and looked forward to going home. Big Daddy believed as we do, that whatever their doing in Heaven today is better that what we are doing here. The gaping hole his departure has left in this world is simply and surely the evidence of a life well lived. His gentleness, his long- suffering, his simple and humble spirit, his music, and his laughter, are branded in the spiritual hearts of those left behind. It is not the ambition and greed of those so called great that moves the world forward for the better. are all soon forgotten. It is the unforgettable and eternal labor of simple and honorable men and women that the sand of time cannot cover nor the winds of time erase. Big Daddy was born into Thoreaus life of resignation and desperation but, his life is the evidence that proves that any life of desperation can yet result in glorious exultation, bringing glory to God, and hope to any life that is willing to follow that example. We are humbly and eternally grateful for the extraordinary success of his simple life and we long to follow in his footsteps, following Jesus home. service for Robert Royce Hughes will be 2PM , 31, 2015 at Cox with Brother Archie Haley and Brother Eugene Haley officiating. Burial will be in the Kilbourne . Services are under the direction of Cox of Oak Grove, LA. Mr. Hughes is preceded in death by his father, Robert Calvin Hughes; his mother, Audrey Ashcraft Hughes and two brothers, Donald Hughes and Wayne Hughes. Survivors are his wife, Patsy Ann Hughes of Kilbourne, LA; daughter, Haley Hall and her husband, Danny of West Monroe, LA; son, Roger Ruthburg of Germany; daughter, Mickey Broom and her husband Jeff of Kilbourne, LA; son Jimmy Jaques and his wife Kathy of Rosewell, continued...
