Obituary: Irene Carr Huggins (nee Bernstein), a lifelong resident of New Orleans, died on 9, 2011. She was the daughter of the late Alma Mayer Bernstein and Joseph Bernstein, Sr., the sister of the late Joseph Bernstein, Jr., and the widow of Irving Carr of Norwich, CT and James Huggins of Montgomery, AL. She is survived by a daughter, Cynthia Carr Pearson (Donald) of Madisonville, LA, a son, Dr. Alan H. Carr (Victoria) of St. Leo, FL, a grandson Winston Jacob Carr and a granddaughter, Joanna Katherine Carr both of San Antonio, FL. Irene was a graduate of the University of Michigan where she was a music major (piano). She studied there with renowned piantists Arthur Schnabel and Joseph Brinkman. She was a trained classical pianist who chose to devote over 70 years to teaching the piano to students of all ages. She believed music to be an integral part in the training and developing of ones mind that benefited the individual in all aspects of life. She worked tirelessly in promoting all forms of music for the children of New Orleans. Irene helped organize the Symphony for Children and was a member of the New Orleans Music Teachers Association. Additionally, she was past president and donor chairperson for the Junior Philharmonic Society of New Orleans, an organization that promotes all of the performing arts. She attended Merrit Grammar School, then Sophie B. Wright High School where she was an honors student. While in high school, she performed with the New Orleans Symphony. Irene touched the lives of her students through their association as teacher/pupil and their love of music. These associations typically lasted decades. She appreciated her students and the feeling was mutual. Irene was a true New Orleans legend. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the service on , 13, 2011 at Garden of Memories , 4900 Airline Drive in Metairie at 11:00 am. Visitiation will begin at 10:00 am. Obituary: HUGER Eugenie Jones Huger died peacefully at her home on May 7,2011 after a long illness. She was born 14, 1932 to Joseph Merrick Jones and Eugenie Penick, both of whom predeceased her. She attended Metairie Park Country Day, Hollins and Newcomb . She was predeceased by her husband of 45 years, Killian L. Huger, Jr. and a brother Joseph Merrick Jones, Jr. She is survived by her sister, Susan Jones Gundlach, her daughters Sally Huger Lapeyre, Eugenie Huger Sloss, Deborah Huger Valentine, Caroline Huger Boone, Miriam Huger Lindner, her son James Middleton Huger, 20 grandchildren, and one great grandchild. Busy raising her six children, she devoted herself to causes in New Orleans involving arts and education. A friend and benefactor too many, she worked tirelessly for our community through the Junior League of New Orleans, S.T.A.I.R, the New Orleans Museum of Art, the Newcomb Art Gallery, the Contemporary Arts , the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, the New Orleans Botanical Garden, Touro Infirmary, and as a C.A.S.A. She loved gardening and was President of the Garden Study Club of New Orleans. Arthur Roger noted Eugenie had an extraordinary enthusiasm for the visual arts. She had a great eye for spotting talent and never shied from cutting edge work. Working in many different capacities, she was tireless in her dedication in anchoring and promoting the visual arts in New Orleans. She was a bright and shining light with many friends. She will be greatly missed. Visitation will be at her home on May 9, 2011 from 11am to 12:30pm with a private burial to follow at Metairie . In lieu of flowers, her family gratefully requests memorials to Choice Foundation, the Newcomb Art Gallery or the New Orleans Museum of Art. Obituary: Louis V. Hufft, Jr. passed away at his home in River Ridge, Louisiana on , 14, 2016, at the age of 70. Affectionately known to his family as Poppy, he was sentimental and corny in all the right ways. He truly enjoyed life - golfing, reading and traveling, hunting and fishing, eating all types of red meat, and the occasional scotch or red wine; but most of all, he enjoyed being with his wife, children, grandchildren, and friends. Poppy was known for his aversion to wearing socks or a belt, his endearing clumsiness, and doling out heartfelt compliments. He treated everyone he welcomed into his home as family. He was as genuine as they come - a true New Orleanian. He will be missed greatly. Born 11, 1945, in New Orleans, he was the son of the late Louis V. Hufft, Sr. and Mary Margaret Aiken. Poppy was a graduate of Ridgewood Preparatory School and Louisiana State University. At LSU, he made the best decision of his life when he proposed to his lifelong wife, Jane Rawls. made their home in New Orleans, where he continued the family real estate and property management business previously headed first by his grandfather, and then by his father. He also served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. Poppy is survived by his wife Jane Rawls Hufft, originally from Poplarville, MS; sons Chris and his wife Kelly of Baton Rouge, LA, and Clay and his wife Corinne of Dallas, TX; and 4 grandchildren, Gracie, Eliza, Rawls and Eleanor. Friends and relatives are invited to attend a visitation from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., on , 19, 2016, at Leitz-Eagan , 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie, LA.
