Obituary: Dona Dee Howell, 84, of Fruitland, passed away , Aug. 3, 2014. A family hosted viewing will be held from 4pm \ 6pm, , Aug. 8th at Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Fruitland. services will be held at 10 am, , Aug. 9th the Church of the Brethren, 4th and Minnesota Ave., Fruitland. Interment will be held at Park View , New Plymouth. Condolences may be made to Donas family at www.shaffer-jensenchapel.com. Dona was born in the small town of Carter, SD on 28, 1930 to Clarence and Mayzie Parlet. She attended school at Geddes, SD where she graduated High School in 1948. graduation, she traveled to Idaho to visit her grandparents, while visiting she took a job at the local phone company as a switch board operator. It wasn long before she met her future husband Ed Howell at a family funeral. Ed had just been discharged from the Air Force and purchased a small apple orchard North of Fruitland. Ed and Dona were married Jan. 1, 1949 in Payette, ID. That , Dona and Ed started their family with twin boys, Layne and Mike; four years later another son Jeff would join the family followed six years later with Tony. Dona was involved in many church activities, serving on boards and committees for years. She played piano at the Church of the Brethren services for years until failing health would not allow her to; she took her role very seriously and practiced faithfully. Dona is survived by her brother Bob Parlet of Sioux Falls, SD; sons Layne (Nancy) of Fruitland, Mike (Chris) of Coeur dAlene, Jeff (Day) of Westfall, OR, Tony (Bobbi) of Fruitland; 14 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. The family would like to personally thank XL Hospice of Payette, Connie Frates of New Plymouth, and the many friends of her church and community for the many acts of kindness shown towards Dona. Obituary: Bill Howe was born 9, 1930 to David Alonzo and Ardella (Stone) Howe in Rigby, ID. Bill lived the first five years of his life with his family in Rigby until his fathers death. He later moved to Idaho Falls with his mother and stepfather, Ardella and Garold McCullough, and his sister Barbara Joyce Howe Bennion. Bill attended school in Idaho Falls and later graduated from Idaho Falls High School. Bill served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War and was stationed in Japan. Following the war, he returned to Idaho Falls where he met the love of his life, Ruth Squires. were married and celebrated their 60 wedding anniversary last . Bill and Ruth were blessed with two children: Bradley G. Howe of Idaho Falls and Lorilee Howe Weaver and husband Melvin Royce Royster of Grace, ID. Bill worked for Westinghouse / Bechtel in the production department for 30 years at the INL site before retiring. Bill is best remembered by family and friends for his love of the outdoors and many colorful adventures. Everyone has a favorite story to tell. Brad and Lori joke they grew up in a tent because of the many days spent camping, hunting, and fishing with Dad and Mom. Bill loved to travel the backroads of Idaho and many places inspired him to return. Bill and Ruth have five grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Bill is survived by his wife, Ruth and sister Barbara Bennion of Spokane, WA. In accordance with Bills wishes a memorial service will be held at a later date. |

Obituary: Veda May (Speas) Howard, 91, of Fruitland, passed away Nov. 4, 2015 at the family home in rural Fruitland. A viewing will be held from 6-8 p.m., , Nov. 6th at Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Fruitland. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., , Nov. 7th at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Fruitland with a viewing from 9-9:45 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow at Park View , New Plymouth. Condolences may be made to Vedas family at www.shaffer-jensenchapel.com. Veda was born Aug. 5, 1924 at the family home in Woodville, ID to Robert and Ethel (Hurst) Speas; fourth child, second daughter. She grew up in Woodville, graduating from Shelley High School in 1942. graduation she worked at the LDS Hospital in Idaho Falls until old enough to join the Navy Waves during World War II. While in the Navy she met the love of her life, LeRoy Howard. were married on May 15, 1946 in the Salt Lake Temple, happily married for 68 years. Roy passed away in 2014. Veda and Roy moved to Fruitland in 1950 from Ola, ID to start a dairy farm. She worked on the farm milking cows, driving tractor and raising a big garden. Veda loved making bread and won several ribbons at the county fair. She also loved sewing and making quilts. Veda was an active member of the LDS Church serving in many positions. Her greatest love was the 12 years she served with Roy in the Boise Temple. Veda is survived by her children, Robert (Audrey) of Pasco, WA; Barbara (Tom) Kenison of Alamosa, CO; David (Ruth) of Kuna, ID; Darlene (Steve) Mecham of Nibley, UT; and Kent ((Teesy) of Fruitland, ID; sister, Maxine Barker of Ontario, OR; brothers, Dennis Speas of Basalt, ID and Rex Speas of Idaho Falls, ID. In addition she is also survived by 26 grandchildren and 71 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, three sisters, and one grandson. We will dearly miss her but know she is united with her eternal companion again. We want to add a special thanks to Katie Mahler, and the staff at Heart Hospice, especially Trina, and the nurses, for their love and care of our beloved mother.
