Obituary: Betty Jean Houston, 83, a Boise native, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on , 31, 2016. Born on 7, 1932, at Saint Alphonsus Hospital, the only child of Samuel and Carolyn Freeman, Betty attended Central Grade School, North Junior High School, and Boise High School. She also attended the Saint Vincent School of at the University of Portland. In 1952, she returned to Boise to marry her high school sweetheart William O. Houston, Jr. During the early years of their 63-year marriage, she accompanied Bill as he completed his advanced education in Nebraska and Pennsylvania and served in the U.S. Air Force. In 1961 they returned to Boise for good, where Bill established his private practice and Betty established their household. In 1963, Betty and Bill adopted infant twin girls they named Kelly and Shelly. Betty was an incredibly devoted mother, engaged in nearly all aspects of her daughters school and extra-curricular activities. She was also an invaluable asset to Bills oral surgery practice, always available to help meet the needs of its many patients. Throughout the years, Betty was also engaged in the greater community. As a teen, she helped organize the first candy stripers at Saint Alphonsus Hospital in 1945. She was president of the Dental Wives Club at Creighton University, a Red Cross Gray Lady at Mountain Air Force Base, and president of the Wives Club at Geisinger Hospital. More recently she was active with the Junior League of Boise, the Saint Alphonsus Auxiliary, the Morrison Auxiliary, Neighborhood Watch, the Idanha Questers, the Idaho Historical Museum, the Saint Alphonsus Festival of Trees, and occasional political campaigns. Once an avid skier and tennis player, Betty enjoyed Idahos scenic beauty. Whether fishing for trout in Sun Valley, picking huckleberries in McCall, or working with Bill to maintain their picture-perfect yard and flowers, she loved the outdoors, family vacations, and time spent with good friends. Betty is survived by her husband, William, her daughters Kelly (Daryl) Staskey and Shelly Houston, as well as many extended relatives. She was also blessed to have her Ya-Yas, a close circle of women who have been friends since their early school days. Special thanks go out to all those at Saint Alphonsus Hospital and its Hospice Program who offered Betty and her family care and compassion during her valiant eight-month battle with cancer and related complications. A Mass of Christian, celebrated by Bettys dear friend Father Jerome Montez, will be held on , 5, at 10:00 am, at Saint Johns Cathedral in Boise. Prior to the mass, an abbreviated recitation of the rosary will begin at 9:00 am and a visitation period with viewing will be held from 9:30 - 10:00 am. Burial will follow at Morris Hill . are under the direction of Cloverdale . Memorial contributions in Bettys name may be made to the Saint Alphonsus Foundation or a charity of your choice. |

Obituary: George Allen Houser, 76, of Fruitland, passed away , May 27, 2015 at St. Lukes Medical - Fruitland. A viewing for family and friends will be held from 5 pm to 7 pm, , May 31st at Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Payette. Graveside services will be held at 10 am, , 1st at Riverside , Payette. and services are under the direction of Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Payette. Condolences may be made to Georges family at www.shaffer-jensenchapel.com. George was born on Feb. 17, 1939 in Cherokee, IA to Clifford and Nellie (Farran) Houser. He joined his older brother Jack. The family moved to Twin Falls, ID when George was two years old. moving to Idaho a sister and another brother joined the family. He has been a truck driver since he was 16 years old when he quit school to go to work. George continued to drive until he was 75. He married Kristine Skinner and they had four children and later divorced. George then married Sharon Manker and they had one daughter. Sharon passed away and George later married Arlene Wayne. George and Arlene bought four wheelers and spent many trips camping and riding four wheelers with the kids, grandchildren and great grandchildren and other family and friends. George is survived by his wife, Arlene; sons, George William Willy Houser (Susan), Ken Houser (Michelle), Wayne Buxton; daughters Debra Ecret, Linda Dagenette (Doug), Penny Morgan and Karen Current; his sister Marilyn De Witt (Paul); 30 grandchildren and 45 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sharon; two brothers, Jack and Larry; one son-in-law, Doug Current; three grandsons, Jonathan Stanger, Ricky Stanger and Derrick Current; and one granddaughter, Rebekah Current. Memorials to honor Georges memory may be made to American Cancer Society, c/o Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, PO Box 730, Payette, ID 83661. |
