Obituary: Diocese Deaconess Willie Mae Howard, 84, died ( 21, 2017) at her residence in Savannah following an extended illness. Diocese Deaconess Willie Mae Barner Howard was born 1; 1932 in Waycross, GA to the late Wilson Barner and Cylde Johnson-Barner. Willie Mae was the 5th child of the twelve children. Of those twelve siblings nine are deceased. In 1951, she married Joseph L. Howard, Sr. and God blessed this union with six children. Joseph preceded her journey to be with the Lord. At an early age, Willie Mae Howard answered her calling to come home to Jesus. Mother Willie Mae Howard served as a faithful member of The First Born Church of the Living God, Inc., under the leadership the Late Senior Bishop Albert Hill, D..D., from 1980-1999. In 1999, she continued her serivice with Faith United Church of the Living God, Inc., under the leadership of Senior Bishop Leornard Goode, D. D., until the Lord called her from labor to reward 21, 2017. She was a dedicated member who served in the choir, School Department, and as a Diocese Deaconess of the South Central Diocese of Faith United Church. Mother Howard was a talented, versatile, business woman who loved to work where she could to help the church accomplish its goals. One of her favorite activities was Catering. She was a skillful Chef and started her own business. Senior Bishop Goode placed her on an Elite Committee that he lovingly called, “The Golden Girls!” The Golden Girl status was achieved by a special few as a reward for their devotion, dedication, sincerity, and love for the welfare of the Church. Mother Howard, a devout, “Woman of Faith and Good Deeds!” faithfully served in Cathedral of Faith Ministries until her health began to decline due to her illness. She was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Howard, Jr.; and a grandchild, Melissa Rogers. She leaves to cherish her memories four daughters, Rev. Dr. Linda H. Rogers of Savannah, GA, Gwen H. Russell (Deacon Bernard) of Savannah, GA, Virginia H. Daniels (Johnny) of Savannah, GA, and Drunell M. Howard of Savannah, GA; a son, Calvin Howard of Waycross, GA; a daughter in law, Debbie Howard of Waycross; a god daughter, Loretta Paschall of Waycross; eight grandchildren, Joseph Howard III, Ralph Rogers, Jr., Tressar “Shan” Williams-Benjamin, Harry Ross, Jr., Alisha Howard, Vatrisha Ross, Calvin Howard, Jr., and Joplin Styron; 14 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; two sisters, Lizzie Mae Gaskins of Willacoochee, GA and Evelyn Smithson of Waycross, GA; a devoted sister-in-law, Pearl Howard; and a host of other nieces, nephews, other relatives, and special friends. A funeral service will be held 12:00 p.m. ( 26, 2017) at River of Life Church, 1439 Brunel St., Waycross, GA 31501. Burial will follow in Oakland . William Ellis Howard, age 76, died May 6, 2015. Mr. Howard was the son of the late James C. and Elouise Holland Howard and was the Owner and Operator of Howards Carpet. Mr. Howard was preceded in death by son; William Scott Howard; brother; Leonard Howard.
services will be held May 10, 2015 at 4:00 pm in the chapel of Smith Memory Chapel. Burial will be at Barrow Memorial Gardens. Rev. Terry Tippens will officiate.
Survivors include wife; Nell McDonald Howard; daughters; Wanda Long and Cindy Stephens; brother; Thomas Howard; 4 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6-9pm at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Dickie Cole, Gary Whitlock, Dick Mitchell, Kerry Lipscomb, Doug Harwell, and Tom Morton.
Smith Memory Chapel, Winder, has charge of arrangements.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fannie Lee and William Howard Sr.; his brother, Lieutenant Neal Dameron Howard; his wife of sixty-four years, Margaret Larkin Howard; and his son, William John Howard lll.Billy attended Auburn University, graduating with honors with a master degree in Electrical Engineering. Billy served in WWll as a navigational pilot instructor for the Army Air Force.In 1947, Billy joined his father in business at Standard Electric Machinery Service and served as President of the company. Through this profession, Billy became involved in EASA (Electrical Apparatus Service Association), participating in numerous boards as well as serving as President of the Mid-South Chapter of EASA. Billy was elected International President for the organization.Billy was an active member of First United Methodist Church serving as a MYF director, School teacher, member of the Tower Class, chairman of the Finance committee, chairman of the Administrative Board, and a member of the Board of Trustees.Billy demonstrated his lifelong interest in the scouting program by volunteering as Scout Master to numerous Boy Scout troops and during his service to the scouting program, Billy received the Scout Training Award, Silver Beaver Award, Vigil honor for service in the Order of the Arrow, and the Cross and Flame award. He also served as President of the Alabama Boy Scout Counsel.Within the Montgomery community, Billy was President of the Capital City Kiwanis Club, a member of the Service Corps of Retired Executives, served as docent for The Montgomery Archives and History Department, a volunteer for the Montgomery Little Theater, and a member of the Committee of "100" for Huntingdon . Billy was born 30, 1923 in Montgomery, Alabama where he lived the majority of his life.
