Obituary: David Alvin Hanson of Kennesaw, Georgia died May 4, 2015. He was born 1, 1939 in Los Angeles, California. Dave was predeceased by wife Elizabeth, brother Carl Buck Hanson III, and his parents Joan and Carl Hanson Jr. Dave was a professional musician; a fine jazz trombonist who worked with Stan Kenton, Buddy Rich, and Maynard Ferguson in his early career. He played in the Grundig Recording Orchestra in Munich, completing his college degree at the University of Maryland in Munich. In 1963, Dave moved to San Francisco and was working there when he saw a newspaper ad for a trombone player to play at the Red Garter in New Orleans. a short time he was called to New York City, where he played at Your Fathers Mustache. With that band he appeared on the Ed Sullivan Christmas Show in 1968. He first came Atlanta on tour with Flip Wilson, and being a Dixieland specialist, he sat in with the band at Ruby Reds Warehouse. That very night, he chose to stay with the Ruby Reds Band and soon the band took up residence in Underground Atlanta. played all over the city as well, at Falcons and Braves games, and for numerous conventions. In recent years, he was a steady presence (all 65 of him!) at local jazz jam sessions, providing beautiful, often intricate trombone solos. Dave was a member of the Atlanta Federation of Musicians Local 148-462 since 1969, serving as Vice President there from 1990 until his passing. He will be missed by his many musician friends and his three cats. |

Obituary: Cheryl Lee Hanson (Alter), age 70, passed away on 20, 2015 in Marietta, Georgia. Cheryl is survived by her husband, Andrew Leo (Al) Hanson; their daughter and son-in-law, Alicia and David Harwell and grandchildren, Liam and Colette Harwell of Marietta, Georgia; and their son, Derek Hanson and grandson, Bryce Hanson of Castle Rock, Colorado. Cheryl was born 22, 1944 in Terrace Park, Ohio to Virginia and Franklin Alter III. She graduated in 1962 from Mariemont High School. She earned her undergraduate degree at Ohio University, then attended University of Michigan to earn her masters degree in Psychiatric Social Work. In 1966, while living and going to school in Ann Arbor, she met the love of her life, Al Hanson. married in of 1968 and were later blessed with their two children. She was a Psychiatric social worker at Ypsilanti State Hospital, then she was a probation officer in the 35th district court in Plymouth, Michigan. Cheryl and Al made a great team and did most everything together. She ran the office for Als company, Halt Fire Incorporated, then founded Northville Connection where she enjoyed the constant flow of community members coming through the doors. She founded and served as the first President of a local investment club and continued to hone her skills with the markets throughout her life. She was an active member at Meadowbrook Country Club in Northville, Michigan then Pelican Sound Golf and River Club in Estero, Florida before moving to Marietta, Georgia in 2012. She loved her family immensely, always making them top priority. She shared a special bond with her mother and took special care of her in her later years. She will be remembered for her warm, friendly demeanor and outgoing personality. The memorial service will be held at H. M. Patterson & Son, Canton Hill Chapel, 1157 Old Canton Road, NE Marietta, GA 30068 at 2 o'clock on , 28, 2015. Please join the family for a reception immediately following the service. Obituary: Annette Gurley Hanson, 83, of Rome, GA, passed away morning, 5, 2015 at Emory Johns Creek Hospital. Mrs. Hanson was born in Aragon, GA, on 18, 1932, and raised in Rockmart, GA, the daughter of the late J. O. Gurley and Lillie Mae Jones Gurley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Bettye Mintz and Margaret Parker. Mrs. Hanson taught for 32 years in the Rome City School System and also the Headstart Program. She was a graduate of West Georgia and received her Masters Degree in Education from Berry . She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Rome, where she served in the nursery and on the bereavement committee. She also enjoyed traveling with the Senior Adults of First Baptist. She is survived by her husband, Wallace Lee Hanson, Sr.; one daughter, Jo Hanson Blackmon (Sonny), Virginia Beach, VA; one son, Wallace Lee Hanson, Jr., (Erin), Johns Creek, GA; one sister, Lottie Sanders, Rockmart; one brother, Bobby Gurley, Rockmart; seven grandchildren, Ben Sheppard, Sara Sheppard, Caitlin Hanson, Alex Hanson Garner, Eliza Hanson, Mackenzie Hanson and Jake Hanson; and a number of nieces and nephews. services were held , 11, 2015, at 2:30 p.m. at the Frist Baptist Church with Dr. Joel Snider and Dr. Floyd Roebuck officiating. Entombment followed in the Myrtle Hill Mausoleum. Pallbearers were Ben Sheppard, Jake Hanson, Jacques Gouws, Jonathan Garner, Mike Crawford and Bob Gurley. Obituary: Margaret Hayes Hansford, 93, of Watkinsville, passed away , 24, 2015. Mrs. Hansford was a native and longtime resident of Watkinsville. She was born to the late Ed and Emma Elder Hayes and was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Benjamin Hansford and brothers, James Hayes and C.B. Hayes. Mrs. Hansford was a homemaker and a member of Antioch Christian Church as well as the Flat Rock Demonstration Club. Survivors include daughter, Linda Culp and husband, Kenneth; son, Lloyd Hansford and wife, Paula; grandchildren, Lafe Hansford and wife, Maddie, Ken Culp and wife, , and Kade Culp; three great-grandchildren. services will be held , 26 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Bernstein with Rev. Sheila Hunter officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
