Obituary: Eugene William Henning our beloved dad, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away peacefully on 11, 2015 in Phoenix, Arizona. Eugene was born on 11, 1927 in Concordia, Missouri to parents, Theodore and Esther Henning. Eugene moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1958 where he resided until the time of his death. Eugene worked as a Computer System and Design Engineer for Honeywell. Prior to Honeywell, he worked for General Electric as an engineer. Eugene was also an instructor at the Arizona State University teaching Math and Computer Information Systems. Eugene was a graduate from the University of Missouri. Gene held a Bachelors of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering and a Masters of Science Degree in Engineering. He also had completed most of the course work toward a PhD. Eugene was a member of the Mount Calvary Lutheran Church where he was a Bible Class Leader, Former Elder and Secretary of the congregation. He also led the Boy Scout Troop where he led many hikes up and down the Grand Canyon. Eugene was an honorary member of the Widow and Widowers Club of Phoenix Arizona, the Shepherd Swingers Square Dance Club of Phoenix Arizona. Eugene served as a Corporal in the U. S Army from 1950 - 1952 until he was honorably discharged. He served and was stationed in German. Eugene constantly expressed his thanks to others for the kindnesses shown to him. Eugene is survived by his children, William (Lynda) Henning (Great Falls, MT), Paul Henning (Great Falls, MT), and Kathryn Henning (Rogue River, OR), step children Larry Sorensen (Evanston, IL), Robert (Robbi Ann) Sorensen (Lindon, UT), 12 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Eugene was preceded in death by parents, Theodore H. Henning and Esther Henning, wife Laura F. Henning in 1988 and wife Marion Theresa Henning in 2009. A service for Eugene will be held on , 14th at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, 5105 North Seventh Avenue, Phoenix, AZ 85013. A visitation service will be at 10:30 AM with a funeral service at 11:00 AM. We would like to share a special appreciation to the staff at The Terraces of Phoenix. The staff at the The Terraces worked to make the seven years that Eugene lived there special. Also a very special thank you to those who visited Gene and made his days special. are Valerie, Tracy, Paul, Barbara, and many others. We also thank those who shared their time, prayers and love for Gene. Obituary: Betty Jane Henning entered into Heaven on 3, 2015, after a courageous battle with breast cancer. She was a loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister, and Friend to many. Betty passed away peacefully near her home in Scottsdale, surrounded by family and friends. A native to Yuma, AZ, Betty was born to Harry and Merle Bickers on 19, 1935 in Glendale, California. She spent her youth pursuing her interest in animal science through 4-H. As a young adult, she pursued a career in nursing and graduated from the nursing program at Good Samaritan Hospital, Phoenix, AZ. Betty was always an advocate and a caretaker for those in need; she spent 40yrs as an orthopedic RN at St. Lukes Hospital in Phoenix, AZ. She held leadership roles in her profession, serving as Vice President of the Orthopedic Nurses Association and was an active member of their Board of Directors. She was Chair of the American Nurses Association, Arizona Chapter and member of the state Medical-Surgical Committee. Sharing her knowledge was a joy for her. In her retirement, Betty availed herself to others in need through volunteerism and was an advocate for those diagnosed with breast cancer, through Reach to Recovery. She maintained an active role through her church providing meals to those in need with Shepards Warehouse and with her church Alter Guild. She was a consummate homemaker, cook, baker, Mother and Wife. When Betty was not donating her time to a worthy cause, her favorite pastime was traveling across the United States to spend time with friends and family and enjoying the great outdoors. She would not pass up the opportunity to spend an afternoon relaxing with fishing pole in hand. Betty is survived by her caring husband Dennis (Henning) of 47 years, and her four children Martin Churchfield (Jennifer), Elizabeth Minchew (Carl), Kelly Churchfield (Abby), Catherine Pensak, Step Daughter Paula Pridgeon (Steve) and her 14 grandchildren. Hana, Sara and Sam (Damore), Max, Ali and Brynn (Churchfield), Noah (Pensak), Jason and Cameron (Churchfield), Liam and Logan (Pridgeon), Adam, Hannah and Molly (Minchew), sister Harriet Connor (Bill) and her dear life-long friend - end of life caretaker Bev Olson. A viewing will be held at Green Acres Mortuary, 401 N. Hayden Road, from 6:00-8:00 PM; Celebration of Life services honoring Betty will be held 7th @ Abiding Savior Lutheran Church,515 E. Continental Dr. Tempe, AZ @ 2:00 PM, reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested for the Reach to Recovery Program (602) 224-7479 through the American Cancer Society. |
