Obituary: Our Dad and best friend, Esmond F. Griner went to Heaven on morning, 9th. When he passed, Dad was with his son Steve and his beloved dog, Max. Known to many as Pop, he will be terribly missed by his family and all who knew him. Esmond was born in Pond Creek, Florida on May 18, 1919 to Leah and Jeneral Griner. He was their third of 10 children. were a hard working close family who lived off the farm. Transportation was mostly walking or old cars that had to be tinkered with to keep running. Es had a very limited opportunity for formal education, but loved to read and had a natural ability to fix anything. He always strove to do meaningful work. When the country went to war, Dad tried to join but was turned down because of an eye problem. He joined the CCCs, left the farm, spent time at Otter Creek, Florida. He was sent to California on the train to work in the forest. For a boy from Pond Creek, the trip through the Grand Caynon was quite an experience. When he returned, he met our Mother, Josephine J. Johnson. She lived with her family in Mossy Head, just a few miles away. He said that once he met Mom, he never wanted to go anywhere else. lived in Panama City where Es worked at the shipyard. Their first child, Phyllis was born. As the war wore down, finding work was hard. Dad got on with the Eglin AF exchange, moved to Niceville and started building their home. He always said that Mom may not have had the best house, but that she never had a landlord. Steve and Debbie were born in Niceville. We were raised in a stable home with a hard working, loving Father and a Mom who did their very best for us, we went to church on s and enjoyed time with our many cousins, Aunts and Uncles and Grandparents. The afternoon ride was a traditiion. All who knew Esmond respected him, he was enjoyable to be with and as his years advanced, he was the same. He was always there for his children, never judgemental and ready to help us at any time. He was a loving Grandfather and Great Grandfather who thought they were all extra special. Dad was a member of Okaloosa Masonic Lodge #312 in Niceville and for many years enjoyed the brotherhood of the Masons. He received the Master Mason degree in 1956, serving as Master of the lodge for the year of 1995. Esmond Griner lived a full long life, did his best at every task, was truly a friend to all, and was an example to his family, we don know what we will do without him. It was hard for Dad after his wife of 50 years, Joephine, passed away in , 1993. We have the comfort of knowing they are together again. Esmond Griner is survived by his children, Daughter, Phyllis Kaiserski, husband Jim, and Grandson Matt. Son, Stephen Griner, wife Pam, Grandson Cody, wife Laura, Great grandchildren Troy, Leah, and Ethan. Grandson Jake, wife Maria and Greatgrand daughter, Ava. Daughter, Deborah Andrade-Trask, husband Bob. Grandson Ryan Andrade and wife Mary, Great Grandaughters Paige, Gigi and Anna. Grandson Brad Andrade, wife Mandy, Great grandchildren Savanna and Michael. Great Grandchildren Brooke Andrade and Tim Andrade. Other family members Tony Andrade, and Summer Andrade. Also survived by his brothers and sisters, Selma Ellis, Eugene Griner, Iva Pacini, Cleo Everidge, Beal Griner and their families. Visitation for family and friends will be , 12th at Twin Cities in Niceville from to 6 to 8 PM. Celebration of life will be at the United Methodist Church in Niceville on , 13th at 1:00 PM, followed by the traditional Masonic graveside service. Esmond will be interred at Sunset in Valparaiso beside his wife. |
