Obituary: Arthur (Art) Greif passed away after a battle with kidney cancer in Tampa, FL on 29, 2017 at the age of 81. He is survived by his son Peter, daughter Kathy, and grandchildren Mason and Zachary. Art was born on 5, 1935 in the Bronx in New York City, NY to parents Anna and Phillip whom had immigrated from Eastern Europe; Art is also survived by his sister Dorothy and her daughter Joan in San Francisco, CA. "Artie," as he was often referred to as a child, played football, was an excellent student, and loved movies. Despite growing up with very little, he created a wonderful and successful life. He served in the U.S. Army; used the GI Bill to graduate from the University of Kentucky and onto to RPI for his masters in engineering. He later got his J.D. from Catholic University. law school, he worked for the US Patent office. While in DC he met his love Linda whom he married in May of 1969. The couple moved to Pittsburgh, PA where Art worked for US Steel as a patent attorney for 17 years. In Pittsburgh they had their two children and enjoyed family life filled with tennis & soccer, dinner parties, traveling, and time with friends in their close-knit community of Peter's Township. The family later moved to Ormond Beach, FL where Art was an in-house attorney for Brunswick Corporation's "Technetics Division." A few years in, Art and three partners bought out Technictics from Brunswick forming their own company which was extremely successful for the next 20+ years designing and manufacturing airplane engine parts. Art and his partners sold the company and he retired with his wife Darla whom he only had a few short but wonderful years with (Darla passed away). Art moved to the Tampa Bay area circa 2007 to be closer to his children and grandchildren, where he enjoyed walking on Bayshore, going to the movies, taking history & science classes, and spending time with his family. Art was a hero to his children, greatly admired for his strength, reliability and honorable character. He is remembered for his vast knowledge and great advice, his everlasting devotion to his family, his encouragement, and his warm smile & laugh. He is and will always be dearly missed. The family is doing a small memorial to celebrate his life and at this time asks that any wishes to send a donation to a worthy cause be held - his daughter Kathy will notify friends of a designated "Team In Training" event which benefits the Leukemia Society, a charitable organization dear to the family's hearts. |
