Obituary: Gooding, Fern, 95, of Tampa FL died on 19, 2014 of natural causes. She went on to join her husband, Edward Gooding, for that next special dance and to enjoy a cold beer on a hot day with her loving daughter, Donna O'Neal. Also joining her parents, two brothers & a sister for the next adventure. She loved music and square dancing. Her upbeat attitude and beautiful smile lit up any dance floor she was on. She was a member of the group The Country Two Steppers. She was born 8th, 1918 in Bowen IL., but could not be tied to just one place. She spent quality time in Springfield IL., Colorado Springs CO., and Tampa FL. She was a hard working truck driver for A&A Truckline, which she owned with her husband, & dedicated homemaker in retirement. The most important thing to her was family, and she was the glue that held multiple generations together with love. She taught us all to never waste a good day being inside. She loved taking family on fun-filled picnics to The Garden of the Gods and to Cheyenne Canyon/Seven Falls. She is survived by her two sons, Art and Don Gooding, 10 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 8 great- great grandchildren. She loved and inspired each and every one of us (notably this guy, great-grandson Jason McKeller). She also never wasted a chance to bestow a loving heart and soul upon all that she came across. A memorial celebration is to be held at a later date in Florida and Colorado. Due to her overwhelming love of animals, memorial donations are asked to be directed to the Humane Society or Hillsborough Animal Services. Reach out and hug a loved one and let them know you love them, because Fern Gooding definitely did to all of us! |

Gooding and is survived by six children: Marilyn Gooding DeSimone (Anthony), Elaine Gooding Vickers (Kenneth), Kathleen Gooding Nordsiek (Gerald), Mack D. Gooding (Cathy); twenty grandchildren: Anthony DeSimone, Jr., Maria DeSimone Green (Billy), Amanda Vickers, Melissa Vickers Thomas (Doug), Laura Vickers Morton (Gene), Bartley G. Vickers, Rev. Eunice was born in Walterboro, South Carolina 24, 1915, the daughter of Barney and Amanda Thomas Drawdy. She was a cheerleader and a member of the girls basketball team at Walterboro High School. While visiting relatives in Jacksonville in 1934, she met the love of her life, Marion W. Gooding, whom she married 25, 1937. Married for 44 years, until his death in 1981, together they devoted their lives to their family, their church, and service for others. Eunice was a member of First Baptist Church since 1934, where she served in many areas of School, ranging from Cradle Roll to Senior Adults, and served three terms as President of the Womens Missionary Union. At the time of her death, she was a member of the McKinney Bible Fellowship Class. During an interim membership at Southside Baptist Church, she served as Outreach Leader for the Esther School Class. While her children were growing up, she volunteered in PTA, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, Band Boosters, and Cotillion, in addition to her church work. She was an honorary Life Member of Gateway Womens Club, was active in the Embroidery Guild, where she made dolls for hospitalized children, and belonged to many other social and civic clubs and organizations. But the couples greatest mutual interest, besides their church, became the Baptist Hospital, now known as Baptist Medical . Eunice served as the first President of the Auxiliary, from 1956 to 1959. In 1957, she earned national recognition from the American Hospital Association in Chicago for establishing the hospitals Day Program for children of the nursing staff. Between 1955 and 2007, Eunices many accomplishments included serving for nine years on the Governors Advisory Council to the Bureau of Crippled Children; serving two terms as President of AFHA and N.E. District Director of AFHA; Chairman of Auxiliaries at the Southeast Hospital Conference; establishing a beauty shop within the hospital for patients and their families; establishing the Candy Striper teen volunteer program; organizing and serving as first President of the Wolfson Childrens Hospital Auxiliary; establishing a Santa Party for hospitalized children, taking Polaroid photos of the little patients with Santa Claus, a tradition continued by her family today; serving in the pediatric Operating Room services as Ethics Chairman and parliamentarian on the Board. In 1970, she received an Eve Award for Volunteerism, as she helped and encouraged auxiliaries to be established throughout the state of Florida, including Jacksonville Beaches Blood Bank, Medicenter, River Garden Beaches Hospital, and Hope Haven. She went one day a week to St. Judes to shampoo and set the hair of patients who could not afford such services. She also received a 12 Who Award; the American Institute for Public Service Jefferson Award in recognition of outstanding public service; and a letter of commendation from President George W. Bush. Unbeknownst to Eunice, at the time of her death, she was being nominated for the Florida Womens Hall of Fame for her life long volunteerism. Eunice always considered her greatest service to Baptist Medical to be her nearly fifty years of service in the Surgical Waiting Room, where she helped comfort the families of surgical patients. Stricken with neuropathy, she was forced to give up her active service to the hospital in 2007, but she continued to counsel with and support the auxiliary services from her home because, as she so often told her children, My husband taught me early in my life that we live to help others. I am truly grateful to be of service in a Christian environment, in an institution of healing. I do not give of myself for earthly recognition, but because God has promised that a cup of water given in my name shall not go unrewarded and As ye have done it unto one of the least of these, you have done it unto me. Eunice has shared her financial resources and physical energies with so many people, family, friends, and strangers, all the way from baking her famous pound cakes for everyone to serving as chairman of the fund raising committee for a relatives liver transplant. She has given of herself in extraordinary measure. She has earned her rest. Surely, God has said to her, Well done, my good and faithful servant. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-8 p.m. on , 14 at the Hardage-Giddens , 4115 Hendricks Ave. services will be held at continued... |

Obituary: Dorothy Bell Borden Gooding died peacefully and with a happy heart on 10, 2016 at the age of 100 years old. Dorothy was born in Knoxville Tennessee in 1915. As a young newlywed at the end of WWII, she and her husband built their homestead, "Headacres", near Lake Park, Florida. For 31 years, she taught in the Palm Beach school system. Dorothy was a 35-year breast cancer survivor. In her retirement, she enjoyed extensive travel and research. She and her sister traced their genealogical history back to the 1400's. At the age of 73, she bought her first computer, learned to use it, and wrote a book about the history of Lake Park ("Tucked Between The Pages of Time "). Her book was published and sold at the Lake Park Historical Society, where she volunteered. A lifelong teacher, Dorothy was active at St. Mark's Episcopal Church where she served faithfully in many ministries and led a Bible Study group. When her vision began to fail, she started a low vision group at her assisted living community to help others. Dorothy received many honors throughout her lifetime, including having the church library at St. Mark's dedicated in her name. Dorothy attributed her good health and long life to her determination to see the good in others and to look for the good even in difficult situations. In her later years, it was her mission to encourage others to smile and "have a happy heart." She was preceded in death by her husband Harold, her sisters: Page, Jean, and Sarah; her brother Jack; and her daughter-in-law, Linda. Her memory will be cherished by her two sons: Harold Jr. and Jim (Liska); her daughter-in-law, Jodi (Fred Lacrone), her grandchildren: Chris (De Rauh), Letreze , Katie (Tom Bennett) , and Matt (Kate), her great grandchildren: Shane, Russell, Taylor, Randall, Abby, and Bailey; her great great granddaughter: Kyra , and many dear friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the St. Mark's Episcopal Church Library fund. A memorial service will be held in the Parrish Hall at 1pm on , 6th at St. Mark's Episcopal Church (3395 Burns Road, Palm Beach Gardens). All are welcome to the reception following. The family will have a private internment service at Royal Palm Memorial Gardens. |
